Ambience:
The ambiance, especially in the courtyard, is very nice. We particularly enjoyed the tasteful and not too loud music, which is a refreshing change from many other restaurants on Holbox. It's also nice that the food is prepared in an open kitchen, allowing interested guests to watch their meal being cooked on the grill.
Service:
Our waiter, Fredy, provided excellent service - attentive but not intrusive. He even helped us crack open our crab claws when we were struggling. Payments can be made easily and without commission using a credit card.
Food:
Although Viva Zapata is a grill restaurant that also offers meat dishes, it clearly specializes in seafood and we highly recommend trying their seafood options. We ordered the mixed seafood platter for two and were delighted. Everything was perfectly grilled and still juicy. The octopus and shrimp, in particular, were some of the best we've ever had. The freshness of the seafood from local fisheries in Holbox really shines through. When it comes to seafood, quality is everything, and it is impeccable here. We rounded off the evening with a typical Mexican cake dessert and one of the highly recommended mezcal-based cocktails (in our case, the "Mula Mexicana" - a variation of the Munich Mule).
Price/Value:
Compared to local prices, the restaurant is not cheap. Our evening, including the seafood platter for two, a bottle of water, two glasses of wine, a dessert, a cocktail, and a tip, cost us about €115. However, for the same quality, you would pay one-third to double the price in Germany. Considering what you get here in terms of service and food/drinks, the price is definitely justified.
Conclusion:
A great restaurant for those who want to enjoy fresh seafood in a stylish atmosphere!
