The chef is not only Gluten intolerant himself, but us an absolute artist.
My wife and I were in Vancouver for a few days while I took care of a couple of business meetings, and we happened to stumble across La Fontana Caffe while looking for something that would appeal to both of our tastes while also having at least a couple of decent Gluten Free options.
Reviews said they could make special gluten free dishes, I was skeptical, but when I asked the chef, who I believe is the proprietor because of his passion for his craft and customers, he said all of the sauces are made from scratch and are gluten free, and though the home made pastas are not, he imports the gluten free pastas from Italy mostly to avoid cross contamination due to the gluten in the fresh pastas he makes daily.
Portions are generous, flavors are to die for, coffee drinks smooth and rich without being bitter or too sweet (Carmel machiato). Plus, they have fresh baked gf desserts too!
Bottom line, this reminded me of a little Cafe I used to frequent when I spent a year in Sicily, except they didn't speak English, and they probably would have kicked me out if I asked for gluten free pasta.
