The Royal Oak - Kent at Slater

Great place for a summer's evening patio dinner, or anything to suit your palette. The restaurant also catered to dietary requirements, which was a must in our group as two members were either lactose intolerant, the other had gluten issues. We were a large group from a MeetUp event, enjoying the pleasures of open air dining and conversation. They offer a wide variety of beers, wines with their menu offering great choices as well. Try it out, especially out on the patio

I have celiac disease and have always loved going to the oak because they’re one of the only places that has gluten free wraps. I was there last night, ordered a gluten free veggie wrap, they bring out my food. As I’m half way finished my first half of the wrap, my server comes over and says “I’m just thinking, that’s not a gluten free wrap” and then proceeds to stare at me. Like what’s done is done... there’s nothing I can do. I’ve already eaten and swallowed some of the wrap. One bite is enough to make me sick. She keeps staring at me “are you okay?” She asks. “No I’m not but there’s nothing I can do now”. “Ok I’ll have them make you a gluten free wrap”. It was on the house but I still paid for my drink and left sick and bloated as ever and was curled up in the fetal position on the couch all night. Very upset. Might consider not going back...
