We are fans of Tom Kerridge, and have wanted to try some of his food for sometime, but have not yet had a chance to try to Hand and Flower, as it needs booking so far in advance. We opted to try the Coach, as it does not need booking advance.
We arrived around11.20 and were seated straight away given menus including a gluten free menu for a member of the party. This person is also allergic to black pepper, in discussions with the front of house manager, and his discussions with the chef they ruled out of the number of dishes, but the rest were fine, they use Szechuan pepper in a number of dishes so off we go!
The menu at first glance is odd, with no starters no mains and no sides, but It works brilliantly to share, and dishes arrive when they are coooked, so there is a treat in what you have.
Between us we went for Heritage tomato and feta salad, Chicken Liver Parfait and fig chutney,Lincolnshire Poacher, fig chutney and red grapes Gluten free bread (tastes like actual bread!!!!) Caesar salad (without the sauce), The Coach chips,Buttered Hispi cabbage for our gluten free person, some were shared with us. Her puddings were Tonja Bean Panna Cotta with English Strawberries and honeycomb and a Fresh fruit salad.
My partner and I had a difficult choice, what to rule out as all sounded so good in the end we went for Chicken Liver Parfait, Chicken Kiev, Heritage tomato salad, Fritter of fish Fillet of sea bream, Rotisserie Pomme Boulangère and Lincolnshire Poacher
For the sweets :- Oakchurch Farm Blackberry Fool with apple sorbet and Tonka Bean Panna Cotta with English Strawberries and honeycomb
You can see the open kitchen, although unless sitting at the bar this tends to be obscured as the place fills up. The Coach can be a little cramped when it is full, but it is well worth the visit and picking up early is recommended.
The staff are brilliant and they are keen to ensure that all patrons have an enjoyable experience.
