The Foresters

An excellent old style bar retaining its atmosphere but in the modern world in the centre of the night life area. I drank the Estella Damm on tap which is an excellent Spanish Lager brewed from rice so gluten free. Note to owner/manager, please do not be seduced by beer salsemen offering you fake Spanish Cruz Campo or Madri at lower price to replace the Estrella. These are brewed in the UK not Spain, from wheat so are not gluten free. Likewise Estrella Galicia is a wheat beer so not GF and too strong for session drinking.

Everyone looking for a drink in the city centre should put the Foresters on their to-do list; great drinks, fantastic service, and the food is very very good and reasonably priced. I had a chip butty with cheese sauce and red onion chutney - hello! - that was seriously the best £6 I've ever spent. And my other half was delighted to find a really good gluten-free beer on tap. It happened to be quiz night when we showed up (Monday), which was a lot of fun. No entry fee, and generous prizes! I feel like the exterior isn't really illustrating how nice it is at the moment, which is a great shame. As a traditional pub, but one that has top-notch modern attitudes towards food, drink and service, it really really deserves to do well.
