The location of this hotel is unbeatable. It’s the nicest hotel I’ve stayed in in the area, and I’ve stayed in a couple of places in Eureka. I stayed up in their cottage, which has a fantastic view of the river looking inland. You can hear the waves breaking at the mouth of the Klamath River. It is dark and quiet at night. It’s very private. The cottage was comfortable and well furnished. The cottage has a full kitchen, including a gas, stove and oven, as well as a full-size refrigerator and microwave. There are basic dishes, including pots and pans. There’s also a coffee maker. There’s also a little toaster oven. It was really nice to have a kitchen as someone with celiac. The stairs to the bedroom are bit steep but have good handrails. The shower was nice and there was no big step to get into it. There is a TV and the Internet works well enough to stream sometimes, but not always. There are two loveseat sized couches, and a kitchen table with extra chairs. There’s beautiful redwood furniture in the place. The space heaters worked very well to keep it warm, although I always kept a window open so that I could hear the ocean better. It was a quick drive to Prairie Creek, and a easy drive to Howland Hill as well. There’s a gas station in Klamath, so this is really well located the owner at the hotel was super friendly. There are lots of hotel guests hanging out at the hotel in the evenings, and you can go down and join them. The place was fairly low fragrance (no dryer sheets, although there were some strong smells in the linens). The towels were clean and plentiful, with minimal scent for those who are sensitive. It’s no pets, which I really appreciated as someone with bad allergies. I saw a few ants, which is to be expected after it rains. The owner was responsive about that. In the mornings, you can look out through the skylights and see fog on the river. This is a one of a kind place.

This inn is an emersive experience in history, ambiance and amazing views. It is perfectly located centrally in redwood country between jediah smith and prairie creek parks, and just north of the lady bird Johnson groves. The accomodations have a rustic hint of the old gold rush days with hardwood floors and porches with a sweeping view of the Klamath river. It is a great stop on any trip along the west coast of California/Oregon; an almost hidden gem that breaks a long trip up perfectly between Corvallis Oregon and San Francisco. The food came from local farms and had a gluten free option, definitely simple elegance.
