The Powerhouse

I have to start by saying I’m pleasantly surprised with the changes here. Over a decade ago this used to be our go to place. Then ownership changed and the menu went downhill. I visited here this week with my kids because it was convenient and shockingly enough, the menu was much better! I have dietary concerns, as does my son and they were accommodated no problem. Food - I ordered the falafel salad, but I swapped the oranges (I can’t eat those) for beets. The salad was wonderful and the tahini sauce was a nice pairing. My kids both had burgers and fries. My one son can’t do gluten, so they gave him a gluten free bun and even told me the fries were done in a gluten free fryer. Woo! Service - everyone was ridiculously polite, even took the time to chat with my kids about their day. Ambiance - I’ve always loved the ambiance here. Fun fact, this is where we had our wedding reception 10 years ago. A beautiful blend of rustic and pretty. Bathrooms - this is the only thing I hate about this place. Bathrooms are dingy and could really use an upgrade Other - if you’re looking for some patio hanging, they have a great patio!

****Updated Review**** Seems like the Powerhouse is back! I’m not removing my original review however the score has been updated. The food was fantastic. The Powerhouse is back with a bang. Our server Sarah was fantastic. As mentioned in my original review the staff has always been excellent. The wings which are gluten free were great. Some of the new photos have missing food as we started eating before taking photos. It would be nice I have some more gluten free options for the appetizers. Gluten free nachos would be great addition. The butter milk fried chicken sandwich was delicious as was the steak panini. The flights of beer were nice and refreshing. The upgrade to the Caesar salad is a $3.25 surcharge which is quite high. The wonton antojitos will make you want more. Some Feedback like before. The Antojitos (you get 8 but I took a picture at 6) are quite small and thin. We got 7 ($16.95) wings with our order - it would be nice to order by the pound. My original photo pictured had 8. The rest was fine as were the value and prices based on inflation today. _______________________________________ I really want to give them a higher review but I can’t. Something seems a bit of a miss at the powerhouse. The service was great but the food was below average. The wings were good. The fries were over cooked. The the Thai noodle bowl was covered with store bought sweet tasting sauce. The Powerhouse Burger was not special at all. The buns were so dry it tasted like they were from 2 weeks ago. The toppings were lacklustre. The biggest issue was the portion sizes. I get we are dealing with inflation but they have also increased prices which is fine. They just reduced the amount you get substantially. Something in the kitchen is a miss. I don’t want a free hand out, I don’t want to contact anyone so you can make it right - I just want the old powerhouse back. The pictures I posted look great but they didn’t deliver. I’ll give it 3 stars because if the service but I’m actually rounding up from a 2.5.
