“A Mexican restaurant that somehow seems healthy”
These days, with the wellness craze, organic and vegan food is the trend in restaurants and markets. Most restaurants in the United States all have vegan menus and are increasingly indicating vegan and gluten-free items on their menus. Even if they sell the same food, restaurants that use organic ingredients receive better ratings, which shows the trend of restaurants these days.
Tocaya is also a Mexican restaurant that promotes organic farming. There are quite a few branches here and there in LA... There was a new branch near my work, so I visited it for lunch.
#atmosphere
This is not the classic Mexican restaurant you are used to. The very modern and clean interior gives the impression that you are in a new cafe.
#menu
The main menu is mainly vegan, but you can also see healthy meats such as grass fed beef and free range chicken on the menu. There is a variety of dishes, but the menu is so confusing that it is hard to choose, so you have to calmly read the explanations carefully. Since it was lunch, I ordered the lunch special.
#lunch special
The prices here aren't cheap, but great lunch specials shine on the menu.
It comes with 2 tacos + a side dish + a drink, so you can save a few dollars compared to paying individually.
That's a pretty good deal.
#taco
The tacos here are based on homemade corn tortillas. You can choose a basic taco and add the protein and cheese of your choice to create your own taco. It was my first time so I ordered with chef recommendation.
First of all, tortillas taste healthy.
It is a typical corn tortilla that does not have the chewy and salty taste of commercial flour tortillas, but has a slightly crumbly texture and a mild sweet taste. The combination posted there is also not conventional Mexican, but is new and awkward, but it comes across as a good combination of flavors. Surprisingly, it tastes good... but it also tastes kind of healthy haha.
#tortilla soup
The tortilla soup I ordered as a side is a soup with a sense of stability that is different from places like Corner Bakery. It was a soup that did not have the pungent taste of MSG and emphasized the taste of the ingredients. The slightly spicy accent is also satisfying.
The menu that can be ordered as a side is very wide.
It was a very satisfying side lineup, including chips, salsa, guacamole, tamales, and Brussels sprouts.
#beverage
You can order Aguas Frescas, but I ordered cucumber mint. A refreshing and light drink that is not strong. Unlike the strong taste of street aguas frescas sold on the street, the calm and soft scent matches well with the store's concept.
#tortilla chips
They basically give you tortilla chips and salsa. The freshly fried, warm corn tortilla chips and quite spicy salsa are amazing. They give you a fairly large amount... so much so that you almost finish it during the meal.
#Synthesis
It is a comfortable restaurant with a healthy feel and taste. This is a restaurant I would like to recommend to people visiting the U.S. because it is a style Mexican restaurant that does not yet exist in Korea. Enjoy healthy Mexican food. There are about 8 branches in the LA area.
