Urban Hill

My husband made reservations here for my birthday dinner. We are both gluten free and he called to ask about options beforehand and was told that “most everything can be made GF”. We arrived on time and they had personalized “Happy Birthday” menus at the table waiting for us. That was a nice touch! The mocktail was amazing. One of our starters was lacking flavor but I believe it was due to lack of bread it would normally be served with. The harissa carrots were delicious. Our entrees were bison and pork tenderloin. The bison was ordered medium well but came out very very cooked. The mole sauce saved the dish. The pork tenderloin was very dry and lacked flavor, the accompanying vegetables were delicious. I ended up sending the pork back and ordered the sea bass instead. The plating and textures were incredible but the entire dish just lacked flavor for me. The combination of items on the plate just didn’t complement each other. The yucca was very bland. All of our proteins lacked salt, I don’t know if it was an oversight or how the chef prefers the proteins to be cooked. Dessert was a flourless chocolate torte that was incredible. Overall plating and service were excellent. They didn’t question replacing the pork entree and always checked on us to make sure everything was ok. My partner was let down that only a few dessert options were gluten free and some entrees were entirely out of consideration which was in opposition to what he had understood previously when calling to ask about GF options. I have to wonder if we had an off day because the google reviews are mostly amazing. They did a fantastic job of making it a memorable birthday experience. I just found the flavors and proteins very much lacking overall.

We had an incredible expeirence. They had lots of gluten-free options like the sable fish and the chocolate soufflé. Our service with Taylor was perfect. We will be back soon.

Urban Hill was a double date win! Joel was our waiter and he went through the menu extensively since I have Celiac. I almost cried - he was so attentive to my food allergy! I also haven't been able to have calamari for the last 5 years, which is a travesty for someone that loves seafood, but I had it at Urban Hill - go rice flour, go!!! The cocktails were delish and filled with flare and ingredients and flavor, the dishes came out hot and gorgeously plated, and we left absolutely STUFFED...even with my husband ordering the almost $100 steak and sharing with all of us. I will (and have for the last couple days) highly rec this restaurant.
