We came without reservation, which made them frantically look for free tables. The table next to ours was free all night, though. There is gluten-free food, about half the skewers can be made with salt instead of soy sauce. They don't accommodate people with an allergy. (They asked us if the condition was "very hard" and refused when we said yes). Communication in general was a bit hard. My family had the normal menu and said it was okay ("too much meat, not enough vegetables"). I had meat skewers, which were of high quality, and really enjoyed the rice cake. The service was good and the plating looked nice. I don't think we were the target audience of this restaurant.

Wonderful Yakitori restaurant in a Kyoto Machiya (old style wooden) house, just a few blocks from Oike Subway stop on the Karasuma line. Staff were very accommodating and were the first and only place we found in Kyoto that readily understood my wife's gluten intolerance and knew exactly what to do for her to have an excellent safe meal. Food was very good. VERY. Matcha and hojicha (roasted tea) ice cream was best we had in Kyoto. The place is at least 2 steps up from hole in the wall yakitori places. Reservations aren't required, but probably are a good idea. Prices were reasonable for the quality and amount you get. We had one of the sets and it was about $30/person. With drinks and dessert we paid about $90 for 2 total. Great atmosphere, great service, great gluten free food. Great night out!
