Sometimes, all ya really want is a good ol' gluten free breakfast sandwich, and thankfully, High Street delivers!
Apparently you can order a GF loaf ahead of time as well, in case you were wondering. The man working was super nice 🙂
Also very happy that they have delicious modification options, so my maple sausage, egg + cheese with avocado + caramelized onions was super flavorful and juuust a little bigger than I could finish.
Their pastries and refrigerated sides look super good; only one gf chocolate muffin available.
Small place with enough seating for 4-5 inside and 6 outside.
& the fresh OJ was super fresh!
Excellent gluten-free cheesesteaks. suitable for celiacs. Bringing alcohol such as beer or wine from outside because the place is not licensed. Gluten-free chips not available. Free refill for soft drinks. Average prices
Amada has the best brunch in all of Philly! They have the friendliest staff who are very knowledgeable about allergy-friendly items on the menu. Their refreshing and flavorful $5 sangria at brunch is an absolute steal and worth the visit alone! Some of my favorite items (which are gluten free) include the gambas (garlic shrimp), meat and cheese with lavender honey, Amanda’s breakfast hash and their French fries. Their dinner is as delicious as the brunch but significantly more expensive.
NEW AMERICAN IN OLD CITY
The story of America was written in its colonial taverns, where future revolutionaries gathered to trade ideas and engage in spirited debate over hearty meals and cold drinks. Red Owl is smack in the heart of the cradle of liberty, Red Owl aims to revive that classic tavern experience, with a distinctly modern touch. The restaurant's superior details—hand-crafted cocktails, house-cured charcuterie, butcher-shop cuts of steak—make it a neighborhood respite. We do our best to accommodate the individual tastes and preferences of our guests with a variety of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free menu options. That’s how Red Owl manages to be old, new and free-thinking all at once. Just like Philly.
Amazing plant based cheeses, including rich creamy brie? Check. The best vegan burger (garbanzo bean with chipotle peppers and vegan americican cheese)? Check. Can we go gluten free with that too? Check!
This place is special! A great thing to have in Philly!
The woman working was quite grumpy.
The wait was atrocious! And I mean atrocious - 30 minutes for two Philly cheesesteaks and some chips.
They mixed up our orders, my husband wanted everything loaded on his and I wanted mine plain with cheese, meat and jalapeño and gluten free bun. They made them backwards but we didn’t dare complain and wait again. I just only ate part of mine. And then felt super hungry afterwards.
I also didn’t want to complain because the woman was so grumpy.
The chips were great.
Google only asks about the table wait, so the table was actually fast to get. But the food order was the slowest I’ve ever had at a market ever!
The food is phenomenal- the owner told us how he makes things fresh from scratch every morning and I believe it. It is not a fancy restaurant (not a white tablecloth place) but the staff is attentive, it is spotlessly clean, and the prices beyond reasonable. I’m gluten free and they were helpful in modifying my dinner so I was completely comfortable with it. My husband definitely not gluten free and said the bread was fabulous. I love the variety of customers - students, families, couples. Highly recommend.
I love this place. There food is really good and consistent. They are friendly. And the price are really reasonable. I’m gluten free and I have so many options and I’ve never gotten sick!
5 of us came here while in town. We had the Saltah, Shakshuka, Lamb Kebabs Platter and 2 Shish Taouk Platters. We all LOVED IT! if you’re gluten free, you can eat here. Then we had dessert. The atmosphere is energetic. People were talking and having a good time. Highly recommend.
The coffee is good, but the croissants and the lunch sandwiches are highly overrated.
My father asked a Bologna sandwich with gluten-free bread, and he got a tiny sandwich for double of the normal price ($17.25 + tax!) After we asked for a normal sandwich they brought us 2 slices of plain gluten-free bread, which was ridiculous. They said that the ingredients in the sandwich are the same as with plain bread, so it's fine that way…
Also, the pistachio croissant is filled with marzipan flavored cream, so definitely not pistachio. Just try the coffee, nothing else is worth it.
My husband and I had our elopement dinner/microwedding here in November 2023. Samantha and the whole Royal Boucherie staff gave us the best experience we could have wished for. We planned everything in less than three weeks. Samantha & team were not phased a bit, even as we were adding new vendors to the roster week of (a holiday week at that.) Communication was prompt from the day we submitted our inquiry. They managed logistics with our vendors. They were able to accommodate a gluten allergy and a few other dietary restrictions flawlessly. Every single staff member we interacted with was attentive, friendly, and accommodating. In addition to Samantha, I want to give a special shout out to the hostess who helped us see the space while we were making the decision on where to host and also made sure our “after party” was comfortable and had space downstairs at the bar after the wedding.
We used the upstairs covered patio for our ceremony and the parlor for our reception. We decided not to bring in any flowers because the space is already so green and beautiful.
We received lots of compliments on the food. The staff went out of their way to make sure we, as the bride and groom, were able to enjoy passed Hors D'oeuvres as we were taking family portraits during cocktail hour.
If you are looking for a place to host your 65 or less person wedding in Philadelphia, add Royal Boucherie to your shortlist. They went above and beyond for our day and we cant wait to continually go back to celebrate new life milestones.
Really delicious food. Plus, since I have celiac disease, they offered me a gluten-free bagel to accompany the dish, and it was very good! Very friendly and approachable waiter. Excellent quality/price! Advised!
What an array of baked goods, not to compete with Beiler's Doughnuts just across the aisle that serves only doughnuts. In the Reading Terminal Market, Beiler's Bakery is heaven for this who love baked goods and I was totally blown away by the selection of 8 gluten free items. I grabbed 4 of the gluten free items including Whoopie pies, sand tarts, peanut butter treats, and pumpkin rolls to Take home. Of course I sampled just a bit of each one and they were delicious! Sand tarts was a new treat for me and the gluten free version was a bonus!
We also chose a raspberry bread, and standard cinnamon rolls. And we also took a home made shoo fly pie, traditional Amish recipe. Delicious baked goods
