Love the chicken soup but paying $3.50 for one slice of tiny gluten free bread (not gf by choice) is a little steep. Sometimes I’ve had two slices, sometimes one thick slice… sometimes grilled other times not - not consistent
Experience a unique high tea with stylish vintage vibes, creative treats, and personalized service perfect for any celebration.

The place looks lovely enough , however value for money, absolutely NOT
$75 each for 4 people , gluten free is an extra $4.00 each and you get 2 high tea tiers with 2 x savoury quiche, 2 very small pork something sliders and then another 2 raw salmon very small square sandwiches
Scones x 2 on each tier, this is apparently unlimited and yet when we asked for more we were told they have to make them as we are gluten free ??????
The extremely small dessertish somethings were also only 3 x styles and two of each ..
Value for money / zero and then we are politely asked to leave .
Don’t bother , there are so many planes that offer this service and your money could be well spent in other places
Chill vibes with awesome coffee and a warm atmosphere make this spot a neighborhood favorite for a cozy hangout.

Fantastic cafe, delicious food, relaxing and cool ambience, and charming staff.
We came a bit late and the kitchen was closed, but the staff were very kind and accommodated us where they could, ensuring the experience was still great. They made sure to cook our gluten free meals for our coeliacs with care, so we felt very reassured. Awesome coffee too!
With its stunning Brunswick vibes and a fresh dinner menu, this bustling spot promises a fun atmosphere and quick service, even on weekends!

project 281 in brunswick is a masterclass in how to run a cafe. the staff are ridiculously good - fast, professional, and always up for a chat. the turnover here is low, and it shows. they actually know the menu, they work like a team that has been together for years (because they have), and they are hyper-aware of food allergies. more than once, i have forgotten to ask for gluten-free, and their habit of repeating the dish when they serve it has saved me from myself. the vegan options are also numerous and delish.
the food is unreal. the eggs on rice is hands-down the best value breakfast in melbourne. the breakfast benny nails that rich-but-balanced sweet spot. the gluten-free bread is so good i would order it even if i could eat the regular stuff, and you can get nearly anything on rice instead of toast anyway. the chorizo eggs with whipped feta are absolute sybaritic luxury, and then there is the steak sanger - even if you’ve had it before, it still manages to surprise you. the human brain cannot fully hold the memory of that sandwich, so every time feels like the first.
the space itself is stunning - open and airy without feeling cavernous, brutalistically beautiful, full of big, fat, stupidly healthy plants. when it is raining, it is magic: all that glass, all that concrete, and the sound of rain pounding the roof while you chew contentedly. there is also a courtyard area, perfect for a sunny brunch or a quiet moment with a coffee. tucked away but still part of the action, it has that rare balance of being open yet intimate.
and the coffee? obviously, it is good, this is brunswick, but project 281 roasts their own beans in-house, and you can taste it. smooth, rich, never bitter. so good, i always get a second cup, sometimes decaf, just to prove to myself it is not the caffeine talking.
the location is also bonza. right off sydney road, a hop, skip, no need to jump from the number 19 tram. two minutes from brunswick station. and if you are driving, there is cheeky parking at woolies across the street.
if you want a cafe that gets everything right - staff, food, coffee, atmosphere - this is it.
Had a not great experience at this cafe yesterday, which is a shame as I otherwise really love the place. Despite discussing my gluten intolerance I was given regular wheat toast (not what I had ordered) and only realised this after a couple of bites. The staff member who made the error was lovely and apologetic. When I went to settle up I paid for the meal as normal, which I didn’t think too much of it at the time, but in hindsight it occurred to me that expecting a customer to pay full price for a meal that has essentially compromised their health does not provide a strong incentive to return (nor does it give the appearance that food intolerances are taken seriously). If you are a gluten intolerant or coeliac person I would be extra-cautious when eating here.
A vibrant spot with a cozy yet spacious atmosphere, live South American music, and a colorful decor that feels like home in Brunswick.

Undisputedly my favourite place to eat in all of Melbourne. Great food, great drinks, amazing staff, great vibe, good music, friendly atmosphere. An authentic Chilean expericence; a home away from home. I remember when Neruda's first opened up a few doors down as a small cafe and ever since then I've only seen it grow and become the empire it is today. Not a week goes by where I don't go here at least a few times to have one of their perfect coffees or eat one of the tasty meals. For breakfast I'd recommend the Weon Sano. For brunch I would recommend either the empanadas or the green salad with mushrooms and papas fritas on the side with their delicious house made chilli sauce. And for lunch or dinner I would definitely recommend the Guiso. Let alone all the meat dishes looking good enough to eat even as a Vegetarian. All the desserts are amazing as well. The staff have always been so kind, welcoming and friendly with hearts of gold. They're also always really helpful as I'm vegetarian and gluten free and they have always been able to point me in the right direction of some amazing tasty food. This place has a very welcoming, family friendly vibe and I often take friends from out of town here, or who don't know the area, and all I hear are great things from them too. As a Brunswick boy born and bred I've seen Brunswick go through many changes but this place keeps it real like an old school Brunswick business with a down to earth, friendly, family vibe as well as a multi cultural demographic of people all enjoying it together. There is always good music being played from all different types of genres of South American music, not only on the stereo but also live which just adds to the great atmosphere of Neruda's. I would also recommend coming in for the Chilean Independence Day celebrations as it is always a fun party with live music and dancing. It is also great for a chill quiet morning drinking coffee, chatting with the community and playing card and board games. All together, I feel at home here and would recommend you come down and enjoy it too. Much love. Viva Neruda's! I love you all.
Enjoy a welcoming vibe with great drinks, engaging service, and a lively atmosphere perfect for a memorable dining experience.

Very fun place to go for Dutchies and non-Dutchies. Great food, good service. They sell some Dutch pantry staples as well (drop, hagelslag, kruidkoek…). There are gluten free options available. I’ve shared the Bitterballen and Kapsalon. Also enjoyed the Frikandel Speciaal and Patatje Oorlog.
They have a very good range of Belgian and Dutch beers. Last time I visited they had Delirium on tap. Non-alcoholic options available too.
A cozy hangout spot that not only blows your mind but also offers an extremely homey vibe to kick back, relax, and enjoy your Sundays.

Great coffee, incredible toasted cheese sandwiches. My fave is the mushroom one 😋. They offer delish GF bread and do all that they can to keep coeliac's safe. Love coming here to my local.
One of my fav breakfast spots in Melbourne. I would cross the city in peak hour traffic for their gluten free, vegan avocado toast. Chai latte is always good too. Staff are lovely, ambiance is really cool.
Have never tried anything else and I couldn’t be happier. Will be back soon!!

So happy to have found this vegan place. I had a lovely coffee and a take away gluten free savoury tart as well as a mushroom toastie. Delicious food and gorgeous atmosphere. Finally the music was great. Highly recommend.
My daughter has coeliac and she really enjoyed the GF pizza base. For two pizzas, jug of drink, caramel milkshake and one lemon meringue pie, it was $76.
Enjoy a cozy spot with scrumptious toasties like halloumi and chorizo that hit all the right notes without breaking the bank.

Delicious breakfast food for a good price! Nice location and friendly staff. The halloumi toastie was a delicious cacophony of sweet and savoury that delights the taste buds with every bite. Chorizo toastie was everything you could every want with generous servings of cheese. Gluten free options available which is always a plus.
