There's nothing I love better when growing up in a small town, to dine at a cafe that makes me feel right at home. Best service, excellent food including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free for delicious homemade favorites with the sweetest owners!
Really wanted to love this place, but just couldn’t. Came to Mount Dora for a girls’ trip, and we all love crepes, so coming here was a no-brainer. Unfortunately, one of the crepes (gluten-free) was just not cooked enough, and the fillings were all cold. Another crepe had cold fruit inside (peaches) and the maker did not include one of the ordered ingredients, which had to be added later. Warm crepes should have warm fillings. My crepe was fine, as it was a savory crepe and everything was warm. Would love to try again if fillings were warm. There were also flies that kept landing on us as we were eating.
Our party of 5 showed up for an early dinner. We were accommodated quickly without a reservation. Our server (CJ - I believe) provided excellent service. When asked about gluten free options, he consulted the chef, who wrote on the menu which options were already GF and how he could make the other options gf. They were so efficient and gracious. When we ordered the Parker House Rolls appetizer- he informed us it was an order of 3, but the kitchen added an extra so the 4 of us eating the bread could all have one. So thoughtful! The sangria was delicious! 2of us enjoyed the gumbo - it was so good! 10/10! The flavors are just right! So tasty but not too spicy. The duck breast schnitzel was perfectly cooked with delicious sides. The pork ribeye was tender and tasty and was so thick! The pork belly was 10/10 with the sides of confit potatoes and creamed collards offsetting the meat - just so! I got the feeling based on our experience, and it was my first experience, but not the first visit for some in our group that no matter what you get at 1921, you will not be disappointed. It was a special dinner that we are still talking about! I can’t wait to go back on my next visit!
What a wonderful relaxing place to enjoy a delicious meal and don't forget an amazing dessert ! Had gluten free version of the turkey sandwich it was awesome. Also shared with my friend a delicious creme burlee cheese cake and banana foster, absolutely delicious!!
grilled pork chops with garlic seasoning was so heavily coated it looked breaded. I'm celiac so went online to check the gluten free menu to see if it was safe for me to eat. grilled pork chops was on the gf list. unpalatable due to the saltiness and rubber texture. broccoli was old and discolored with brown/black. should have not been served. loaded baked potato didn't taste fresh and didn't seem to have butter. I expected a loaded potato so thought butter and sour cream would have been included with the smidgen of cheese and bacon on it. horrible meal.
Our waitress was awesome. Once I explained that I was gluten free, she did everything she could to help me find safe foods for me to eat and even sent back my meal when the chef put gravy on it which has gluten in it. I wanted bangers and mash but it turned out that the bangers actually have a filler in there with wheat in it so they offered me what they called white pudding which is actually sausage patties which do not have a filler in them. I had them with homemade mashed potatoes. It was delicious hubby had a fish sandwich that was wonderful. The only thing not fabulous was his french fries were a little cool because they had to remake my plate after putting gravy on it.
We had an incredible night at The Funky Munky. I highly recommend the Ramen, we also had the appetizers that were good too. There was even live music! Go check out, and in terms of good food and drinks around town, it was affordable compared to others (like the Salted Fry that charge an arm and leg and say that they are fancy because they cater to the Gluten free diet, get outa herreeee) Anyway! My wife and daughter had an amazing time, so much that we might have dinner again tonight there.Sorry we have no pics of the food, we devoured it!
The food here was really goof. I took my mom and my kids and we enjoyed it. The service was fast and friendly. The server knew what to change to make it gluten free and that was cool. My reason for 4 stars is that they don’t have any happy hour so that is a bummer. Taco and margarita specials are what makes a Mexican place popular! Hopefully they will start some soon.
We've been here twice and love it! Good breakfast with fresh fruit! Homemade nachos are great! We will come back!
Only issue is limited gluten-free items.
Lovely mediterranean restaurant in Mount Dora. Good pasta, very nice atmosphere (and music) and fair prices. Our server was excellent, paying attention to our Gluten free restrictions. Good flavors.
