As a vegetarian visiting St. John's I was bit concerned about food selections for myself but Nook and Cannery was such a delight. The vibes were immaculate and the food was incredible. They offer many ways to adjust meals to suit vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free folks. My favourite meal during my trip!

A MUST for anyone needing gluten-free options. With a dedicated gluten free deep fryer, we ordered GF seafood platter (with the best scallops and shrimp I've ever eaten in my life), GF fish and chips for my daughter (a huge piece of cod!), and started with GF deep fried calamari as well as an order of possibly the only GF crispy cod tongues in the province if not the country! With all of that plus a GF beer that I'd never tried before, Port Rexton Raspberry Sour (something that did not sound tempting but it was actually delicious, more beer-y than fruity), I'm surprised my family didn't have to roll me all the way home! STRONGLY recommended! 👍👍 But make sure you call to make reservations... We got turned away the first time we tried to go. 🤷♂️

Best Gluten Free Pizza in Canada! I've been to nearly every province in Canada and this was by far the most unique pizza, good size for GF, bbq sauce base, chicken with hot honey sauce! Great atmosphere, friendly service.

Mitch was our server and he was amazing! Great recommendations and just an all around nice guy.
Food here is amazing. If you’re gluten free they have one of the best gluten free crusts around.
Def come here. Prices are more than fair.

We had a great experience visiting this brewery. A wonderful cool yet cozy environment on a rainy evening. Chip Truck dining was incredible and I love their gluten free offerings. I am definitely placing a mail order to get some to Ontario.

Everything is perfect there ! As I have no home, finding a place that feels welcoming and where I can use a good wifi is precious and I felt good working all day there, for few days actually. People that work there are awesome, pretty good coffee/chai latte/caramel macchiato and they also had gluten-free option (only the bread for sandwiches but they have plenty of choice and the one I had was delicious). I recommend 100%

Such a quaint and quiet restaurant. Beautiful, calming decor. Relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful service from the staff, easy to follow direction for ordering. Tasty food, I had the gluten free pad Thai (indeed spicy friendly because I cannot tolerate spice and this dish was perfect). Absolutely would recommend!
Enjoy a stunning location with great views and a unique atmosphere, perfect for a memorable meal experience!

I have celiac disease and asked about gluten free options on the menu. I was told I could have a gluten-free bun with my burger. I asked if the soup of the day was gluten-free, the wait staff went to check and told me that it was. I ordered the soup and a gluten-free burger.
When the food arrived, there was a bun alongside my soup. I asked if the bun was gluten-free. The waiter went to the kitchen to check and came back and told me it was not. They took the bun away. I was not offered a gluten-free bun.
A few minutes later, I was several bites into my burger when the waiter returned to tell me there had been a mistake, and the burger bun was not gluten-free. They took the burger away. I was not offered a replacement burger.
The manager came to our table to apologize for the error. I explained that this would make me very ill, within about an hour. A few moments later she returned with the chef, who also apologized. They told me took my information and told me they would go over what happened with their staff to make sure it didn’t happen again. They took my phone number and said they would call me to check on me the following day, and the day after that. They never called.
This is serious. Eating gluten not only makes people with celiac disease very sick, it also causes permanent intestinal damage.
With unique breakfast options and a welcoming vibe, this spot promises a delicious experience that'll leave you wanting more.

I had a great gluten free sandwich here! The gf bread is made off-site and they have a separate toaster and mayo for the sandwiches. Obviously they bake regular bread here so the risk for a Celiac isn’t zero but I enjoyed my sandwich very much and the man at the counter was so helpful and patient with my questions!
Famous for its remarkable deep-fried options and unique homemade cider, this spot is a hit but be ready for a bit of a wait!

As a celiac, I get excited about deep-fried things that I can have. The gluten-free Salt-n-vinegar fish n chips were outstanding! I 100% recommend. And the Fries were cooked to perfection. I was very happy with this meal. (I can't recall, so I'm not sure if they have a dedicated fryer. I tend to have mild to unnoticeable reactions to shared fryers though. Or maybe I'm just stubborn.)
I also wanted to try the iceberg cider that they brew there, but unfortunately they were all out. (I eventually found one can at a liquor store, and it was good.)
They were fairly busy, so the service was alright, but that's to be expected.

I go here everytime I'm in town, which is a couple times a month for work, and I've never had a bad drink here. There's a huge variety of drinks hot and cold and they always have interesting seasonal drinks as well. I always get a sandwich with a gluten free bun when I'm here, my favourites are the pesto chicken and the cran-apple chicken sandwiches, the gluten free bun is very good, and doesn't fall apart like other gf breads tend to.

Had breakfast here twice during our week in St. John's, and it was worth it! So many options, and the fact that they can serve most options gluten-free (i.e. on a gluten-free bagel) was great. Unfortunately, they do not have a dedicated deep-fryer, so I wasn't able to get any of the unhealthy stuff that everyone else had, but that's okay...I appreciated the fruit substitution for the hash browns!
With a cozy deli vibe and a unique selection of cheeses, expect a pleasant but slightly chaotic experience when visiting.

I do enjoy the deli environment but the layout here is absymal and it's never straightforward to order deli items and or pay for them.
The gluten free rice Kaiser is decent but a bit crumbly so plan accordingly. Dining in at a table is very pleasant if available.
My favourite sandwich is the curry chicken salad. Get the olives, carrots and pickles on the side.
The modest selection of cheeses is decadent. I look forward to bringing a wedge or two home.
Do not visit this place if you are in a rush. But overall, it is worth the bit of chaos.
Retro diner vibes and stunning views make this spot a must-visit, plus it's known for a creative menu and quick service.

The Irish Loop Coffee House has a surprisingly large food menu with reasonably priced and tasty items. We went there for coffee and tea, but I also had an order of home fries. The fries were really great!
There are options for those who are gluten free and vegetarian. I didn't see any vegan only dishes, but I think they'd be able to accommodate people looking for a plant-based dish.
The service was quick and friendly, which is always appreciated. The atmosphere and decor is retro diner themed, which was a cool surprise.
I definitely recommend The Irish Loop Coffee House when driving route 10 through the area.
I haven’t had that good of a ramen in a while! The veggies were fresh, the miso broth (which they make themselves!) super tasty, the portion was generous... AND they have gluten-free noodles folks!!! 🤩 Don’t know about you, but I’ll definitely visit this place again!

This was my first time trying Vietnamese food. It was delicious.
I started with the Bao and loved it. The dough was soft and the middle was bursting with flavour. I loved the spices used.
I ordered the lemongrass chicken bowl. It was wonderfully light and fresh.
The service was good. She was attentive and helpful! She checked about allergies when I ordered a dish that included peanuts. She told us that the majority of the menu is gluten free which is really cool.
The decor is pretty kitschy but it's full of colour. There are several art pieces made from rice that are interesting to see.
Exceptional service and a standout ambiance make this spot a must-visit; it's a true gem loved for its attention to detail and delicious offerings.

Located close to the harbour allowing for a nice view, this restaurant serves nice food. They offer vegetarian options and Gluten-free ones (GF on request). You won't have to wait long for your food and get a free miso soup while waiting. It's a nice place to eat while exploring St. John's.
Eating at this restaurant was the best dining experience I've had in St John's. The food is good, the price is good, and the service was exceptional. Very highly recommend for gluten free eaters.

Great food and beer. Especially enjoyed tuna tartar and gluten free codfish tacos. Yup, gluten free. The Coffee Blonde was very good. The only downsides were the service was a little slow and they ran outta oysters.

Blue on Water Restaurant
I visited Blue on my birthday and was treated to one of the finest meals I've had in years. It's rare for an entire meal to be excellent, but this was!
The appetizers (Scallops, arancini, beet and arugula salad) were all exceptional - thoughtfully plated, sumptuous and a perfect balance of flavours.
The mains (duck, chicken and salmon) were also delicious: seared or crusted on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Accompanying seasonal veg were also toothsome and simply prepared.
Desserts (gluten free almond cake and a chocolate entremet) were to-die-for and I don't even eat dessert usually. Pretty as a picture and layered with complementary elements.
Our server, Lyndon, and manager Emily provided stand-out service making our evening even more special.
Enjoy a cozy vibe with a great selection of drinks and a lively atmosphere, perfect for a Saturday night out with friends.

If you have a gluten sensitivity, intolerance or allergy this is not a place to eat at. On Sept 27 2024 I went there with my sister for lunch. I advised the waitress Lori, that I have a gluten allergy. I ordered a gluten free Caesar salad and fries which were cooked in a dedicated fryer for just fry’s. When our order came out she brought the fries and advised the chef put croutons on the salad in error and is in the process of doing a new one. About five minutes later the salad came out. I was eating away at the salad and when I was about have way through I found 3 croutons. I thought I was going to get sick in my seat when I found them. I can’t believe the chef did not make a new salad he just tried to pick out the croutons and sent it out for me to eat knowing full well it would make me sick as a dog for days. Our waitress was shocked when we showed her the croutons on the plate with my salad. She had no idea the chef did that. If you have a gluten sensitivity/ allergy ect this is not a place you should ever eat at. Obviously the chef has no understanding of gluten and how it works on someone with a gluten allergy. I was so upset and sick for days….
Handmade noodles and generous portions steal the show, while unique free trinkets and a mix of 90s R&B add a quirky vibe.

Excellent food and a very generous wait staff. Was greeted immediately upon entering and seated.
Menu has lots to choose from, and the meals themselves are generous in portion sizes while not breaking the bank. Meals tasted very fresh. The combo specials are especially bang for your buck.
Pros: very yummy food, average waittimes, and very friendly staff for a good cost.
Cons: restaurant was a little cold at times, minimal parking, and I wish the menu showed what items were gluten free.
I will mention that the staff were especially good at offering GF food, they even subbed my partners eggroll for fried tofu and gave more lemon chicken as a substitute for chicken balls, all at no additional cost.
Will definitely be coming back!
In the heart of Gander, enjoy incredible sweet potato fries and generous portions that won't break the bank, perfect for a satisfying meal.
