So finished a great break to Iceland with a return 3 years since we were last here. The Apotek restaurant doesn’t disappoint, the food was…and this in my mind a measure of how great it was, the best meal to finish off a great holiday. Service was great from the start, the waitress Helena (a fellow Brit), was superb in her attentiveness was superb, great conversation and an asset to the restaurant.
Anyhow, they cater for coeliacs and can easily provide gluten free food options.
Trust me you won’t be disappointed, well I hope note. Try it and I hope you have an equally high quality culinary experience. When we return, dare I say it, it’ll be a return all being well.
Exceptional fish dishes shine here, but service can be hit or miss; the charming vibe and fresh catch make it worth a visit.

We entered cold and tired, we left reinvigorated and extremely full.
As a gluten-free option we could take the scampi and cream soup (good) and all the main dishes, i.e. the fish pans, absolutely great: generous portions and WOW flavours.

Costs in line with the city

For anyone traveling with dietary restrictions - you have to go here! Second trip to Iceland and second trip to Tapas barinn. We took this trip with a different group of friends than our first trip and this was one of our only requirements as to where to eat and it did not disappoint anyone (and we set high expectations for this place). Most important thing for me was how amazing they handled my dietary restriction. I have celiac disease which can make eating out very difficult and I had absolutely no problems and did not feel like I was left out of any part of the dining experience and for those that have dietary restrictions, you know how this is very common. I didn't get sick at all, I was take very seriously, and they explained the protocols they would take. Every time they dropped of a plate they would say "gluten free tapas" so I knew they were handing me the right plate, enough to let me know but not over the top to make me feel uncomfortable. I had the chef's experience (last time I had the Taste of Iceland) along with my husband (who does not have a dietary restriction) and the changes they made to some tapas for me were no big deal at all, we both equally enjoyed our meals. Also, highly recommend the Taste of Iceland experience for first timers but the chef's experience was equally amazing, just think the Taste of Iceland is something everyone should try at least once. The overall atmosphere was amazing, staff could not have been friendly or more knowledgable of the menu. It is slightly pricey but 100% worth it. We did this as our "fancy" date night and we could not have asked for a better experience. Again, must go for anyone with a dietary restriction!
An interesting menu featuring massive combos, delectable potatoes, and a vibe that promises a unique burger experience at a great price.

Nice place they have gluten-free options but obviously can not guarantee cross contamination, but they do try and make an effort. Food was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful.

I came for dinner based on a recommendation that they could accommodate gluten allergy/celiac on the chefs tasting menu (which I put in my reservation comments). When I arrived I felt they were knowledgeable about gluten allergies but not clear on what they would need to replace or change. They had items that were celiac friendly on the menu which was great, and I chose a spicy tuna roll. It was... Fine. For $52 I would have expected it to blow me away and i was pretty disappointed. My drink was fantastic.
With a cool, artsy vibe and ample breakfast options, this spot is perfect for groups and offers generous portions that won’t disappoint.

Nice restaurant! The server was really helpful and nice. There were lots of gluten-free options, also for celiacs. The hot chocolate was not really my cup of tea but that could be because it’s just different in my country. All the food tasted amazing though. The restaurant was clean except for the toilets.
With free refills, a vibrant atmosphere, and unique kitchen tours, this spot offers a memorable experience that keeps everyone coming back for more.

You have to come here. You Have To Come Here. YOU HAVE TO COME HERE!
They have one of the best (if not the best) fish soups I have had in my life❤️❤️❤️
If you’re celiac, they have specially prepared lamb or tomato soups. You can have as many lamb or tomato refills as you want. Their service is super friendly.
Prices are more than fair for Icelandic average. And, there were FREE Waffles?!!
I would give 6 stars if I could 🤩

Great food, great service! Many vegetarian and even gluten free options:) it's located in a food hall, so in the evenings (especially on weekends) it may not be easy to find a place to seat. It was super nice during lunch time tho:)

Best meal in Iceland. The lamb was probably the best lamb I’ve ever had. Staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. Partner has a gluten intolerance and they helped us navigate the menu and were great with substitutions. Highly recommend!

Wonderful atmosphere. I liked the waiting area that is by the door so that you can wait for all your guests to arrive.
The menu is a bit exotic with shark, horse, and other unique meats.
However, they also cater to vegan and gluten-free. That was great.
The assistants are aware and appear almost as you lift your head looking for one.
The decor is exquisite and well thought out, it's giving barn but elegant.
Catch some sports action while enjoying a variety of tasty options, including customizable vegan dishes and refreshing beverages.

I'm not into sports but we went there because my husband wanted to have their food. He enjoyed watching sports while we had dinner. We are from the US so he got to watch American football.
He enjoyed his burger and fries with a gluten free bun. Also got to enjoy a gluten free beer.
I ordered a vegan burger and onion rings, which are also vegan. I was not going to order at first because the vegan burger is grilled with the meat. But then the server asked the chef if he could cook it separately. And they did! I really appreciated that effort. My husband was glad we ate together. I also had their apple cider which was so delicious.
