Established in 2007 Pancakes Amsterdam is a polarizing entity, the second location in front of Damrak favored by tourists but the original in the Nine Streets generally well-liked by locals even though prices trend a bit higher than more traditional places. Open from 08h00 to 20h00, early arrival or reservations advisable lest one wishes to wait, Pancakes’ menu comprises Dutch or American style with a variety of toppings including favorites designated by a heart. Surrounded by iconic scenery, outdoor seats in the shade a hot commodity, Coffee is basic but good with a packaged Stroopwafel while Pancakes are light and fluffy, perfectly wrapping around plentiful toppings, and available both Vegan or Gluten Free for those with allergies.

Bar located near the central station and Chinatown. The menu features many varieties of pancakes, including Dutch ones, both sweet and savory. I appreciate the possibility of gluten and lactose free options. The pancakes, the one with apples and the one with chocolate chips, are very good and generous in size. Unfortunately, despite being young, the staff is not friendly, never a smile and when I asked if there were vegan options I was told by a girl to look on the menu even if there was nothing written on the menu, I solved it by talking to the male waiter who was able to point out options not listed on the menu. We spent €10.70 per person for two pancakes.

According to their website: "Cocotte wants to satisfy you in the best possible way. By adapting to your dietary requirements, whether by choice or obligation, Cocotte will suits you. Cocotte can be vegan-friendly, lactose-free, gluten-free or whatever you need. Cocotte Team will be glad to adapt as best as it can to ensure you a precious time!" This was not the case when I was there a week ago, asking if there is a vegan option. There was nothing vegan on the menu, and the staff was unwilling to make an adjustment, so our group of friends had to find some place else to go :( Too bad as the place looks lovely, but definitely not vegan friendly.

Great place, I highly recommend it, we had been looking for days for a place that made gluten-free pizza and first courses and we finally found it! Very welcoming place, super friendly and smiling staff, we also asked for variations on the pizzas and they made them without any problem! Delicious pizzas! Kudos to the management

I really enjoyed this place. I admitted it’s in the middle of the central district of Amsterdam and very close to the central train station, and yes, it is a bit touristy, but the staff was very pleasant and the food was very good. It also offered a variety of gluten-free options, including both pasta and pizza, which was very nice since most of the Italian restaurants in Amsterdam only offer gluten-free pasta and not pizza. It’s friendly here, and if you sit outside, there is an excellent opportunity to people watch. I do not think you’ll be disappointed, if you’re looking for a casual but quality experience.

Food was nice - i was hoping for something exciting like a regionally sourced or selfmade bread for the gluten free option (seemed packaged to me) but we were happy finding some gf option at all :) service changed the standard eggs benedict for a veggie version which was nice. Service was lovely. Interior kind of cold in the morning but service made it comfortable with a heater :)

Super tasty gluten-free pancake, but what got me was the niceness of the server! I wish I asked for her name so I can refer her! She was so nice to make sure she explained that the pancake is made separately from the rest to prevent contamination. She got out of her way to make me feel extra safe to eat there. Thank you!

We genuinely go out of our way to eat here, it's so good and the fact you can get sauces that are gluten free is excellent. I imagine the cross contamination is pretty high so be careful, but my wife isn't bothered by it.

Well, I must say the fries were good but a friend ordered a gluten free burger and first of all there was a really long hair on it, but it didn't really bother her because well we thought it can happen but something that really shouldn't happen is that she got severe problems because apparently there was gluten in it. Even though she asked the staff 5 times if her meal is really gluten free.

I rarely leave negative reviews. I will start with the positive, which is that the cut of beef I had (tenderloin) was very good. Unfortunately, there were several negatives: * the mixed vegetables were literally frozen vegetables that had been microwaved, with two slices of sautéed onion and one slice of sautéed pepper thrown in. No seasoning. Maybe 1/4 of a bag of frozen carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower you could buy for €2, and they charge €6,50. * the baby potatoes were baked, with essentially no seasoning, no oil, nothing. Just baked. * the gimmick (which I hadn’t realized ahead of time), is that the meat cooks at the table on a hot stone. So if it’s over-cooked, that’s on you. The instructions they give are to cook it 30 seconds on each side. That is not enough to come close to browning the outside of the meat and it will be completely raw. I don’t like overcooked meat, but 30 seconds on a side?? I don’t think you could brown the outside without way overcooking the meat. It pretty much can’t be cooked properly this way. * water cost €6,50. * the old fashioned cocktail (€14), was made with cheap whiskey and overly sweet. * service was very slow and the servers didn’t know what was gluten free or not. * the website claims to have over 75 menu items. I guess they are counting different sizes of the same cuts of meat, mixed and matched with the sauces that cost an extra €2,50 for ~1.5 tablespoons of sauce. When you don’t order the extra sauces, they bring the plates with empty bowls. After this, we definitely did not try dessert. I guess this is what we get for eating in the tourist district. I should have been suspicious when they didn’t have their menu online. Definitely got dubious when I saw paper napkins. I’m amazed at all the positive reviews.
