We usually go to Arcade Coffee & Food, but decided to try somewhere new while in Huddersfield for an appointment at Wonder of Wellness (biological dentist). We arrived early and popped into Northern Tea House — and we’re so glad we did!
I had the gluten-free brownie which was absolutely fantastic: gooey, rich, and just the right amount of indulgent. My friend had a meringue — soft in the middle, crumbly on the outside — exactly how we like it. I also ordered a pot of tea, which was huge and easily enough for two.
There’s no dedicated parking, but we found a nearby street and paid around £3 for 1–2 hours. Might be better parking if you scout around a bit.
The café has table service, which was a lovely surprise. There were people working on laptops and others catching up — it gave the place a nice energy. The high ceilings and warm atmosphere made it feel open and welcoming. People were constantly coming in, which is always a good sign.
We’d definitely come back next time we’re in town!

Had a lovely fried egg, mushroom and bacon sandwich on white gluten free bread for my lunch today with a cappuccino and gluten free muffin following a busy Sunday morning. The sandwich was delicious 😋 the coffee wonderful as always. The staff were really helpful, nothing was too much trouble and all made me feel comfortable asking for help when needed. We've ordered from Burger and Frites a few times now and it's safe to say we are regular customers now! Everything has been fantastic, from food quality, freshness (always lovely and hot), and the service.
The staff are so friendly, and the delivery time was less than 15 mins on my last order (although I don't expect that every time it was very impressive!)
The burgers from here are in my opinion better than 5 guys, and my favourite meal is the peri chicken box meal which is gluten and dairy free and so tasty!
