This place is fantastic.
I have celiac and a wheat/oat allergy and the staff was knowledgeable about all allergens for menu items. I had no bad reactions to the food afterward.
The food is delicious too - I'm an omnivore who eats vegan/vegetarian a decent amount. It stands amongst some of my favorite restaurants ever (non vegan included). Did not think it being vegan detracted from flavor whatsoever.
Highly recommend, especially if you have gluten sensitivity.
My husband and I used to live in San Diego and go to the Red Sea often. I loved it. We moved away and just returned for a visit 16 years later. The food was as wonderful as ever. As we planned our trip, revisiting the Red Sea was a must! Also, the injera can be made gluten free! I love this place so much. So happy it’s still in San Diego going strong.
This was the worst pizza I ever got.
I ordered gluten free pizza with three toppings: basil, Canadian bacon, tomato slices. As you can see on the picture, it was drowned in cheese. Tomatoes were definitely chopped by wood axe no less. The basil was dead from the last decade (aka overcooked). At pick up, pizza was weirdly cold right in the middle (possible something cold was put on top? not sure).
Huge variety of flavorful Lao dishes. If you’re used to eating Thai food, these Lao flavors have more depth and spice! Their prices are great too. We ordered so many dishes including GF pad see ew, Kao soi(not GF) , lao steamed catfish , grilled chicken with jeo seom, sticky rice, Lao papaya salad, and sugar cane juice.
They label their menu very well indicating vegan, gluten free, or peanut containing items. My bf is Celiac and we asked about a few items labeled GF. Some items are incorrectly labeled GF, the employee was aware of this as well and recommended against ordering any dishes with fried items. I would personally avoid ordering some noodle dishes just because she mentioned noodles are boiled in the same water (ie:. egg noodles / Chinese rice noodles, ho fun usually contains wheat starch)
TLDR: AMAZING place to eat if you don’t have strict dietary restrictions, GF by choice and or vegan. Would def return and order To-Go myself. **If you are celiac and have a strict gluten allergy — be extremely cautious highly likely for CC. Will update if my bf has a reaction, fingers crossed🤞we would love to come back and try other items!
I usually get Pho with Brisket only, thats my hot item go to. If its hot out and I am craving something light and fresh Ill get a bowl of the vermicelli with wither grilled pork or chicken. Before I had to go gluten free, I would do the chicken and eggroll vermicelli. The Eggrolls are always sooo good!
Best tacos of the weekend for sure! We will be back. Worth the trip. Gluten free options were easy. Surf/turf, garlic shrimp and marlin were excellent tacos.
