No seating outside because of the threat of rain ( which did not appear). Dining room was unbearably hot - a few family members had to leave early because of the temperature.
Fish tacos were great and there were lots of gluten-free options. Corn tortillas were raw though - not fried on the griddle for 30sec which makes them better. Coleslaw and pickles were well flavored, but in general the portions were small for the price we paid $25/person for 5ppl.
The fish and chips fillet was huge though and everything tasted fantastic. Definitely worth visiting.

The Juicy Lucy was delicious! They also have the best gluten free buns I have ever tasted! The atmosphere was interesting with lots to look at, old historic items and photos. I would definitely recommend it!
With a unique atmosphere and a mix of dine-in and take-out options, this local favorite still delivers delicious pizza, but be ready for potential wait times.

Still the amazing pizza it’s always been. <3 My mom had the gluten-free crust & said it’s the best she’s ever had! If you’ve been here prior to the pandemic/2020, just be prepared that it’s very different from what it used to be. Our family has very fond memories of Sven & Ole’s over the years. Then, we were last here in Aug 2022 and at that time they were only able to offer their food to-go style, so we were *very* thankful to be able to sit in the dining area at all when we were here 5/24/24. Some of the dining + the bar area is blocked off. But there was a good handful of tables and booths available to choose from! You have to bus your own tables because of short staffing. They gave us paper plates & plastic cutlery to use.
We were there right when they opened at 4pm, and the food came out quickly. The pizza & garlic cheese bread were amazing!! The boneless wings left something to be desired, they are served with a small sauce cup of sauce, meaning they don’t come “sauced and tossed”, you kind of DIY it. The person who ordered those said the breading tasted kind of “under done”, but the chicken itself was fine.
Our side salads- Caesar & regular- were delicious. All of the veggies were fresh.
Oh and last, there’s a 5% charge if you use a debit/credit card so bring cash. Lots of places are charging those fees now, but just to give a heads up. :)
Go give it a try, you’ll enjoy it!! You can also order their food to-go.
It’s hard for places to find staffing, hopefully this will change & they can turn this place back around to the amazing dining destination it once was.
No gluten free breakfast options other than a trail bar, but gluten free beverages. Super long wait this morning, 25 minutes, but beautiful day to wait outside. Cute logo items like sweatshirts, tshirts, coffee beans and mugs. Variety of options for those of us who like the Starbucks and Caribou menu. Great location & view of lake is Spectacular. Indoor and outdoor options & they have a bonus pop-up shop by the lake just north of the shop.
Food 3, Service 4, Atmosphere 3.
It is overall ok.. one of the good things is they have some gluten free and vegetarian options. Slow service 😞, nice view of the lake 😊.
Enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with great beer and a heated outdoor patio, perfect for relaxing with family and friends!

Great food, especially loved the pulled pork sliders with kettle chips! Nice to have gluten-free options. Very friendly atmosphere even for kids. Beautiful outdoor heated dining patio.
Food was so good! Fish tacos and Chicken quesadillas were overstuffed, hot, fresh and delicious... excellent. Homemade queso and the hot fries were the perfect pair. They have corn tortillas and corn shells if you cant eat gluten. Only thing the fish tacos needed was a little lime or lemon. But after a long day of hiking this food was so satisfying. The service was fast, accommodating and friendly. So glad we got to try this food on our stay in Grand Marais
Savor amazing fish dishes while enjoying stunning views of the lake and boats—it's a must-visit experience!

My wife has been talking about this place since we started dating, for their gluten free fish and chips! They were clear that cross contamination was possible due to using a shared fryer, but my wife has had them before without incident.
We ordered the walleye fish & chips, the absolutely Smoked Salmon Chowder, also gluten free! And ate overlooking the bay, the experience lived up to and exceeded the expectations! That was some of the best Chowder I've ever had!
Picked up a coffee cup on our way out the door, can't wait for our next time back up north!
A popular local hangout in Grand Marais, buzzing with visitors, offering a cozy vibe perfect for coffee and conversations.

Great find at Grand Marais. They have gluten free options and gluten free bread. Staff was very friendly. People are coming in and out all the time. This must be a popular place where locals meet daily for coffee and chat. Food was delicious and they have a gluten free lava cake that I ought to try next time. The food has a fair price and you are well served.
A vibrant spot known for its warm atmosphere and attentive service, perfect for gatherings and special events with a lively crowd.

Sydney's gets my vote as a top notch Grand Marais casual eatery. I was blown away by the care, kindness and service we recently received here, which was on top of the delicious pizza with a nice crisp thin crust and scrumptious custard dessert.
Tonight our artist's group held a private party here and the place was stuffed with a hundred or so of us all jostling for a turn at pizza, custard, and drinks.
Sydney's team didn't bat an eye, they just kept the hot pizzas coming with good cheer. When the owner noticed I wasn't eating, he good naturedly asked if I were too shy. When I replied that I couldn't eat gluten, he said, "I can make you a gluten-free pizza! Can you eat dairy?" "No to that too." He said, "Not a problem. I'll make it dairy free too."
Honestly, I was touched beyond belief at the care and kindness afforded to me without my even asking. My special pizza was wonderful and obviously made with care. The fact that someone took time to ask why I wasn't eating in a restaurant completely FULL of hungry people...well, I could cry. That kind of concern just isn't something you'd expect to happen today.
Bottom line: Sydney's is a wonderful eatery led, managed and staffed by some amazingly great people.
Thank YOU to Sydney's 1000 times over.
The name does not lie! My kids love the skizzels. I am also happy they have gluten free options now. Love the fact it's family run and you feel like family when you stop in.
Conveniently located off the Gunflint Trail, this clean spot features a charming store at the entrance and a cute guard dog.

Convenient place just off gunflint trail. Very clean, there's a small store at the entrance and a restaurant at the back. Everyone seemed very sweet. Server and food were super fast. I blinked and our food was there. They offer the usual burgers and salads but also had some vegetarian and gluten free options. I got the salmon patty. It tasted like a fisher crab cake. I really liked it :).
Their new guard dog on duty was so cute!!
A great one-stop shop for healthy options, gifts, and essentials with quick grab-and-go meals in a clean, central location.

Great bulk section and very friendly staff. However, for a co-op, Cook County Co-op has very few single serving allergy friendly options beyond frozen foods. I have shopped at this co-op 20 or more times and I’ve not yet found a hot food option that is gluten free or dairy free/vegan. I have also not seen any gluten free or vegan baked goods in their case-it’s all the local Crosby bakery, which is cool, but other options are needed. If you have no allergies ignore this review- it’s excellent otherwise-but if you do, don’t expect to find a ton of single serving options. Glad there are there though!
