I come here for the gluten-free cakes and treats. Only once did I have an old slice, I won't pick the last one next time. Can't wait to see what's on the counter next time I pop in
This bakery is vegan and gluten free, and everything I've had from here is absolutely amazing! The people working are always warm and welcoming as well, definitely recommend:) and don't forget to check out the antiques upstairs!
They have GF cupcakes. They are good! They store them separately and top them with separate saccapoche to avoid cross-contamination. I am celiac and this is a wonderful place to enjoy something sweet!
I cannot say enough great things about Sweet Treat without Wheat! I had the pleasure of trying their cinnamon sugar donuts, and they were absolutely delicious—soft, flavorful, and perfectly sweet without being too heavy. You’d never guess they’re gluten-free!
What made the experience even more special was the incredible generosity of the owner. Despite the bakery being located in Iowa, she went above and beyond to get the donuts to me all the way in Aruba.
If you’re looking for amazing gluten-free treats made with love, this is the place to go. I can’t wait to try more of their baked goods!
Kindred is a casual café with delicious breakfast, brunch or lunch 100% gluten free.
As celiac, it is rare to have the possibility to choose anything from the menu without cross-contamination. This is the only place in Iowa city with a 100% GF kitchen.
Additionally, I loved the vibe of the place: young and casual.
Crème has been amazing since the new owner came along. I’m gluten free and they always have fun options for us. I stop in a lot to get cupcakes for my own salon clients when I know they’re coming in near their birthday and I always grab cupcakes to take to my veterinary office as a thank you for always getting me in last minute. How can anyone be anything but excited to see you when you come walking in with cats in a carrier and half a dozen cupcakes from Crème in hand?! I love the creative flavors they’re bringing to DSM. Lastly… the thing that made me a super fan (and I’d like to see more of) are the mochi donuts! They are mind blowing! I am obsessed with them! The staff are always kind and helpful, the shop is clean and welcoming. But I really love having Crème around to surprise someone with!
I LOVE shopping here. They have a fresh food fruit & vegetables, prepared foods, gluten free, etc. There’s something for everyone. Huge selection. If you like coupons, their app has plenty! They also have weekly deals!
I’ve never been to the actual bakery, but I have gotten these products from the Hyvee health market freezer section and I have to say after having the chocolate chip cookie bars and the cinnamon rolls they are both my absolute favorite desert ever; they are so moist and delicious! I have had other products as well and they are all so amazing! I hope whoever this baker is never stops! If I was magically cured of celiac and able to eat whatever I wanted I would still prefer these gluten free baked goods from here!
I have been here several times recently for brunch. This place knows what they are doing and they are really good at it: the atmosphere, the decor, the food, the service. The lattes here are the best in the area, hands down. Even the cups and saucers are beautiful and add to my enjoyment of the coffee drinks. I want the exact cups for my own home. The seasonal latte flavors are creative and never overly sweet. I do love a pumpkin spice latte, and St. Kilda has the best. I was interested in a seasonal mocha and was hesitant to order it for fear it would be too sweet, but the server told me more about it so I decided to try it. It was the best mocha I’ve ever had with the perfect balance of flavors and just the right amount of sweetness. Everything that’s a part of the Big Aussie Breakfast is prepared to perfection: thick cut bacon, delicious blistered roasted tomatoes, perfectly crispy house-made bread. Even the gluten-free bread is excellent. Last week my boyfriend got a hashbrown on the side and it was the best hashbrown I’ve ever had - a lovely soft texture on the inside and perfectly crispy all the way around on the outside. The last 3 times I’ve eaten there, we’ve had the same server. I love her! Very friendly, relatable, and a bit quirky in the best possible way. After our last visit, I decided St. Kilda in Valley Junction is my favorite place for brunch.
Stopped in for a Lox Bagel and Iced Coffee. I was served promptly but after ordering I noticed the fellow making my bagel doing so without gloves. Thought that was strange and I was tripping for a moment but then saw him start the next order also without gloves, then put a pair on midway through making that bagel. Its 2024, anything to do with food service especially in an open kitchen where customers can see you should be wearing gloves. Took my order to go, when I got around to eating it the bagel was tough and dry, certainly not fresh. The taste was good but also pretty skimpy on the Salmon compared to others given this is also a $10Menu item. I eat Bagels 3-4 times a week and this one was Defiantly not up to par. I’d keep looking somewhere else for your gluten fix.
This is hands down the best coffee shop in town! Renn's syrups are **phenomenal**! Every coffee concoction she has come up with tastes delicious! And the regular/normal coffee options are spectacular too. The shop itself is the kind of beautiful, restful, lovely space that makes you want to spend hours there. And my favorite part is the food. So good. But since I have recently had to give up gluten I am even more grateful for Renn's and all of the delicious gluten free baked goods she offers. You would never know they were gluten-less! Everything she does is done with excellence and the staff are also very friendly. Also, if you go make sure to check her social media or get on the email list because her menu is constantly changing and you don't want to miss out on the seasonal goodness!
Excellent coffee. Excellent staff. They have incredible build your own breakfast sandwiches. I can't eat grains so, while they offer a gluten free option, I still can't eat it. The sandwiches are made to order with fresh eggs, sausage and bacon. So they made an omelette for me instead! Very awesome and delicious.

I love everything about this place! The service was great and the gluten free cookies were the best I’ve ever had. They had fun gifts in a fun environment. Great little shop! I will definitely be back!
Ordered two cakes from Mel and some Gluten Free bites for my fiancee's birthday party.
Perhaps I'm cake ignorant and only used to grocery store cakes, but when I sent Mel the designs, I was just expecting an edible printout for the top. Mel, however, went above and beyond and made the whole cake themed.
People loved the cakes (not too sweet, but not unsweet) and were fighting over the gluten free bites. We had her party at Top Golf and every employee was stopping by asking where we got the cakes from.
Sweetopia is a total gem! If you're someone with gluten and dairy sensitivities, finding delicious treats can be a real challenge, but Sweetopia's gluten-free and dairy-free cupcakes are seriously amazing. You wouldn't even know they're made without those ingredients – they're moist, flavorful, and the frosting is perfect.
Beyond the incredible cupcakes, the owner is so friendly and welcoming. They clearly care about their customers and take pride in their creations. It’s always a pleasure to stop by and chat while picking up a sweet treat.
If you're looking for a place that caters to dietary needs without sacrificing taste, Sweetopia is a must-visit. You'll leave with a smile on your face and a cupcake (or a dozen!) in hand.
Great store with solid sales and friendly, helpful staff. Clean space as well! Has good health food section with gluten free options, as well as nearby gas station.
Amber's Cakes were so good!!! We got our wedding cake and some cupcakes from her, and they were delicious. I usually don't eat gluten free baked goods, and I couldn't tell with Amber's desserts, and they were so tasty! She made our cake a custom flavor and decorated it beautifully. I loved the flowers she put on the cake. We also got some cupcakes dairy-free for our dietary-restricted guests, and we only heard high praises about those cupcakes. Thanks Amber!
My sister brought some of the gluten free cupcakes to our niece's wedding reception in QC. These were the BEST gluten free cupcakes I have ever had. If I didn't live in Kentucky, this would become a habit. Thanks!
Let me start by saying the pizza is absolutely delicious. We got the Cubano and the white pizza, both in gluten free. Both were fantastic. However, there was definitely either cross contamination or something containing gluten that I was unaware of. I started reacting within half an hour and it's gotten progressively worse as the night goes on. If gluten isn't an issue for you, I definitely recommend. Again, it was delicious. If you have any type of gluten sensitivity or celiac especially, I suggest you don't take the risk.
Ordered 3 dozen gluten free muffins and a gluten free pie for a retreat. Rave reviews! Most moist and tasteful gluten free muffins they have had! And the pie crust was a delight to one who misses pie crust!!

Great grocery store with a very good selection of items for people with dietary restrictions (gluten, vegan, etc). Prices for some items are noticeably higher than target.
Stopped here after my sister-in-law recommended them. What an amazing experience my son has to have gluten-free and hasn't had a donut in years, so he was super excited to find out you had gluten-free ones, we decided to buy a half dozen to take home for him but there were only 3 in the case so I asked the young lady behind the counter if she had any more and she said if we wanted to wait she could have them decorate 6 for us 😀 I said just do an assortment of them please, while we were waiting she offered to let my son get his picture in the emergency donut ambulance. My son was so happy 😊 Then as we were checking out, the young man helping us gave my son a toy emergency donut vehicle ❤️ My son is a 24 year old young man with Down Syndrome your staff made this an amazing experience for all of us 💙 💛 I can't thank you enough
This is my preferred HyVee as they tend to have more options for vegan foods and specialty products. My find on this visit was Pamela's Graham Crackers as I was making a gluten free dish for family. It saved me the hassle of making them from scratch! Store has a nice selection of everything.
My wife is gluten-sensitive and vegan (egg-free) and it's always so difficult to find cakes and desserts for her. We ordered the Lemon Blackberry cake for her birthday and it was absolutely amazing!! I highly recommend Moo's Bakery for anyone needing gluten-free or vegan birthday cakes!!
I stopped here on my drive home from the West Coast to Illinois.
I was looking for the perfect "something" for my gluten free/ dairy free daughter.
This little shop hit the spot perfectly.
I got there mid afternoon and there wasn't a lot to choose from, but I was able to buy her a few different things to try.
Meg, who waited on me was friendly and very helpful. We chatted for a while and then I headed home.
My daughter loved all the baked goods and was thrilled that I was able to find a place where I could bring her some goodies.
Thanks Meg....wish your store was 200 miles closer.
This was technically my third Barrett's experience, but the first time dining in. I SO wanted everything to be amazing... but it just wasn't. The restaurant itself looks so cute and upscale! The patio is great! Their assortment of canned goods and other items you can buy is really impressive. Their coffee was good. I had one of their "seasonal" gluten-free pastry items to go that was delicious. Here's where it goes downhill. When I walked in, I was expecting to wait at a hostess stand to be seated... I believed this place to be upscale, based on the menu and decor, right? It was Sunday around 10AM, and there were about 6-7 people milling around the bakery/coffee/entry. I thought they were waiting for coffee or carry-out orders. So, after there's obviously no one at a hostess stand, I asked the guy behind me if I had to order at the counter? He said, "Yes, there's the line." Ah! Ok, so I grab a menu and head to the cashier counter. I order very quickly, smoked salmon eggs benedict, which I get at every opportunity when I eat breakfast out. And a black coffee. I asked if I should just seat myself or wait to be seated... again, wondering why so many people are waiting in the vicinity. She said I could just sit where I wanted, outside or inside? I said outside. I paid $26.00 for my black coffee, in a to go cup, and my salmon benny. I went outside, found a seat, and was told I could grab my own water, silverware, and napkins from the table outside. Ok, no problem. Literally 3 minutes later my benny arrives. It looks OK...I'm thinking, that was super fast. Is everything cooked enough? Sadly, I forgot to take a photo! It's covered in a generous amount of hollandaise sauce....in fact, drowning in hollandaise. Ok, so some people like that! I don't. When I dug in, I noticed that the poached eggs were so lightly cooked that the white was still, well, wet, too wet. To me, that's an under cooked poached egg. I'm still super excited about the in-house smoked salmon, so I get a generous pile of smoked salmon, dipped in the goopy yolk (love that!), a little bun, and sauce, all in one forkful. I carefully take a bite. Um. Is this supposed to be cold? I tasted each item individually to test them. Egg & hollandaise were lukewarm, almost cool. The smoked salmon was cold, like out of the fridge cold. Not gonna lie, I scraped off half the sauce and ate the yolk and salmon anyway. It was good! My take: Eggs Benedict is by definition a hot dish. All of it. I get the hollandaise is probably not super hot, but should be warm and pleasant to taste. If this was actually meant to be a cold dish, that's fine, but don't call it eggs benedict. It was, for me, an unpleasant experience. One more thing...it was served on the same hot plate as a really delicious, simple, perfectly pre-dressed mixed greens salad. It tasted great and looked beautiful! The greens were also lukewarm. In summary, I felt uncomfortable and lost on my first visit and would have preferred a sit-down waiter/waitress experience for the price of my dish. The salmon benny and this restaurant probably need to decide what they're going to be, and go with it. The benny, commit to hot or cold. The restaurant, commit to upscale with servers or lower priced fancy fast-food.
