This place is super clean, has fresh food (and gluten free & vegetarian options!) and the service from the manager & staff was exceptional. We watched F1 on the screens, and there’s lots of other sports playing including football and rugby. Great atmosphere too!
I visited for drinks a while ago and was impressed with the service so returned with some friends recently. Upon arrival staff were a little blunt but we assumed they were busy and seated ourselves to our directed table without worry. Seating was cozy, nice and warm with the heater and the atmosphere was nice. In general it’s a lovely little spot. After sitting around for a while and servers looking at us but not approaching, we took ourselves to the bar to order. We ordered a bowl of chips and 2 drinks x2. One order immediately after another. On the menu it states there is a gf option for chips so we ordered one bowl as such. One set of drinks came out in a relatively timely manner but were so short. I understand they’re “cheap” at $15 on Fridays but they were a half a cocktail at best which was disappointing. A bowl of chips came next, my friend queried if they were the gf ones or not, the server said she wasn’t sure, returned with them a moment later saying they were. We could simply tell by the look of them they weren’t. The second lot of drinks came, also disappointing, the two drinks, supposed to be the same, stood next to each other and looked like two totally different drinks, meaning recipes or measurements aren’t used..? We came here knowing we had the comedy show above to attend to in just over an hour so assumed a bowl of chips and a set of drinks wouldn’t be pushing it, at all. After being in the establishment for 45 minutes, being really let down by our drinks and the second bowl of chips never arriving we decided to leave and make the most of the 15 minutes we had left before the show and went across the road for another drink. Before leaving we asked for a refund on the chips we didn’t receive and two servers approached the two of us and were really rude stating our chips were on the way… we ended up getting a refund with the intention of ordering food at the comedy club, unbeknownst to us that it was food served from the same establishment. Upon attempting to re order the same bowl of chips upstairs we were told by staff, the same one that served us downstairs that they don’t do gluten free chips….? This is really dangerous and irresponsible as an establishment. And leaving one of us not fed at all the entire night. After ordering drinks on the QR code a server approached us stating at 8pm on a Friday they had run out of pineapple juice.. it really just felt like one thing after another at this point which dampened the mood on our entire groups night. The efficiency and time management or even just staffing is clearly an issue here but the staffs approach is just awful. A smile and apology and or explanation goes a LONG way. Had we of felt welcome from the get go and had our issues heard without being met with attitude my review would be entirely different. After enjoying my experience here so much to the point of recommending and bringing friends back, to be met with this is so disappointing and embarrassing.
Dined today with a group of girlfriends (one celiac), enjoyed multiple dishes; chicken leg, steak tartare, prawns and the two vegetarian options…all were absolutely delicious. Margaritas on point and service to boot! Thanks for a lovely long lunch experience.
The Norfolk Hotel has one of my favourite atmospheres of any restaurant or cafe around. You are surrounded by greenery and walls of history dating back centuries. It's a popular place so it's always bustling with people out for a meal or just a drink after spending time at the beach. You really can't help but feel like you are in holiday.
I did really appreciate the portion sizes when it came to the burger and chips which was tasty and filling while being a healthier option than many other burger places due to their portioning! The share platter was an incredible sight which was filled with delicious meats, breads and salads! The wait staff were very accommodating, remaking a salad to be gluten free when the error was on our end for assuming it was gluten free. There are also so many dairy free and gluten free options or alternatives to almost every item on the menu!
The bar staff however tended to ignore customers waiting to order a drink to the point the bar was crowded with people waiting and filled the cups with more ice than necessary (as you can see in the photo) so the coke was very watered down, but I believe this can be attributed to the number of things they had to do on a busy evening.
Overall it was a very relaxing and pleasant meal.
We enjoyed a lovely Christmas Day at the Sail and Anchor. The day was perfect, food was delicious and good options for gluten free. The staff were helpful and friendly and the space and atmosphere was perfect for our table of 12
Horrific service. I’m a regular, reasonable bloke, and I don’t usually write reviews, but I feel compelled after this disgraceful experience. My dad, who’s flown over to Perth on holiday, is celiac, and I was excited to treat him to what should have been a simple, safe meal: gluten-free fish and chips. It’s clearly advertised on the menu as a gluten-free option, so we ordered it at the bar.
The girl who served us initially stormed off to check with the kitchen, then came back and told us to order through the app. Fine, no problem—we did as instructed. But after waiting for the food, assuming everything was sorted, she eventually brings it out only to casually inform us that only the chips are gluten-free. No explanation. No apology. Just a blatant disregard for the seriousness of the situation.
We were visibly shocked—how could this not have been clarified the moment she spoke to the kitchen? Yet, before we even had a chance to address it, she stormed off again and avoided our table entirely, as if we were the inconvenience.
This isn’t just bad service—it’s negligent and disrespectful. If you can’t handle dietary requirements or don’t take them seriously, don’t advertise them. Absolutely appalled.
