We stopped in here during our visits in New haven.
This establishment boasts an appealing atmosphere with a charming ambience. The service is courteous, although the waitstaff, while kind, may be preoccupied. Consideration for a designated server could enhance attentiveness. The cappuccino is commendable. Among the crepes, the Norvegienne, featuring smoked salmon, lacks a harmonious flavor profile with the buckwheat base. However, the strawberry, banana, and Nutella crepe proves delightful. While I would revisit, I suggest avoiding the savory buckwheat crepes, as they may not align with personal preferences, though they may appeal to those seeking a gluten-free option. Be prepared to smell like a crepe when leaving. Bathroom is in a very weird location with scary movie vibes.
This review is for the street level fast food restaurant storefront specializing in chicken nuggets. The gluten friendly chicken nuggets were excellent--little chunks of real chicken (not processed) cooked to a juicy light golden brown. The french fries were good. The little bags that the chicken and fries came in was foil lined, so I imagine that would be great for keeping take out orders warm on a chilly night. The staff who took my order at the counter were friendly and efficient. The atmosphere rating is a 3 because the tables were dirty and the seating area needed tidying up.
There are a lot of gluten free and pepper free options if you build your own bowl. I love to swap out the base (lettuce or quinoa) for sweet potatoes and then load up on veggies and toppings, which is slightly more expensive but well worth it!
Just ate the gluten free The Stack which is grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, red tomato, spring salad mix and pesto-mayo dressing, and 5 stars all the way = delicious. Ate it so fast that I forgot to take a picture! The only downside is that you need a fork to eat it as the bread crumbles… but for the taste and freshness of the ingredients = such a small price to pay for greatness.
A celiac’s dream diner! While there is no gluten-free bread option, most (if not all) food is prepared on its own grill/pan so there is no cross contact of gluten containing items! Eggs=safe, home fries=safe, bacon=safe. The pic is of the grapefruit brûlée; I’d go back just for this dish. So simple but tastes complex. So tasty. All the food was excellent! I sat at the counter and chatted with most of the staff who were friendly and efficient. Great all around diner!
I love browsing through the used books (mostly literary fiction and popular histories) with a cup of spiced chai latte. The indoor and outdoor seating areas are comfortable and well lit, if packed during the lunch rush.
I'm less enthusiastic on the food front: the gluten free sandwiches are way too expensive given that they're made on udi's bread. For almost $10, I want something made in-house.
Interesting little place in New Haven. Unique inside with a bank vault storing wine. Attentive servers and great menu. The four of us each enjoyed our different dishes of meat lovers pizza, gluten free pasta w shrimp, seared salmon and steak salad.
Drinks were also good and well made.
Biggest complaint is the noise level. The music speaker sounded blown with much humming and crackle for all bass noise and then as the place filled from 6:15-8 pm it became too noisy to hear people next to me.
We eventually left and sat outside to visit. Might dine here again but won’t go on a Friday or during peak dining.
Used to be one of my favorite coffee stops in new haven :( Im not sure if its due to the opening of the second location or the switched focus to being a brunch spot but this place has seriously gone downhill. This location is either overpopulated or understaffed. constantly a line out the door and staff ushering you to the full service dining area. Much less vegan/gluten free baked goods on rotation than they used to have. The coffee has fantastic potential as it is made with different GIV beans (a local roaster) that have both great blends and single origins. however due to the franticness of the staff, syrups in lattes remain unstirred, turkish coffee is much weaker than before, teabags stay in when you order tea and often break in your togo cup, and the espresso the last few times i got it had a strong metallic taste. The prices have gone up a lot (as has everywhere) but are now more in line with a midclass brunch spot than a coffee shop who has snacks and breakfast options. unfortunately the food isnt on par with the price and youre better off going to bellas across the way. (theyll both have lines out the door) truly sad as staff used to be so welcoming and the atmosphere and decor and couches make you want to stay all day! Would only go back to purchase whole beans sadly
The New Haven location is one of my favorite spots to go for breakfast, lunch, or anything in between. Andrew is extremely kind and helpful, making the entire experience a delight. I am constantly thinking I have found my favorite thing on the menu and then I try something new, and the cycle starts all over!
I am also celiac and they have a great selection of gluten free options. I couldn't recommend Life Bowls enough.
Delicious vegan and gluten free options. Falafel is the best I’ve ever had. The fresh OJ is a must order. Havenly is absolutely amazing and I hope they can expand. An elegant casual restaurant, it’s the perfect place to meet friends and family or hang out with a book. Can’t wait to come back.
Excellent coffee and yummy breakfast! They accommodated my gluten allergies with no issue! If you’re staying at the Omni on Temple Street, this is by far a superior option to their 19th Floor breakfast at a fraction of the cost.
This might be my favorite store of all time. They have amazing hot food, great snacks (gluten free and keto friendly) and very friendly staff. Must visit while in New Haven.
Donut Crazy specializes in donuts, but also features great coffee and tea selections. There are additional breakfast options with eggs and pastries as well. They are open later than nearby coffee shops in the summer. Seating is student and writer friendly. The manager is terrific and leads staff to pay attention to details about service that others might miss.
Gluten free rice krispie treats are available for those needing an option.
I had this food at an event and loved their sandwiches. As somebody who is gluten free and vegan, I have low expectations for event food but I was so excited to have multiple sandwich and salad options. Plus, they were delicious and interesting! I really hope my work keeps using them in the future.
Sandwich 1: hummus with seasoned carrots, cabbage, and onions
Sandwich 2: arugula with a umami marinated tofu
Wow is all I can say. We had lattes with oatmilk, and they were delicious. Certainly made with compassion and love for coffee. The gluten-free chocolate chip cookie was to die for. Highly recommend.
