Excellent food, friendly welcome, and excellent service. I have celiac disease and am thrilled with the variety of gluten-free food and drinks. With 30 degrees and sunshine, I missed more shade. If more sun protection like umbrellas were provided, this would definitely be 5 stars.
Very cute café, we came in on a Saturday morning without a reservation even though it was quite busy, the gluten-free selection is very good, there are 2 different waffles and bread, 4* because the food took a long time to arrive and by then the coffee was already gone, but the portions are very large and we even packed some extra.
By chance, because I no longer work in the area, I passed by this shop. The gluten-free sign is a magnet for my eyes.
A small, oblong shop, with shelves full of SUPERFOOD magazines and books lining the wall. It reminds me a lot of a former workplace, raw vegan bubble, esoteric flair...but we'll see.
The woman behind the ceiling greets me warmly and tells me what they have to offer. Everything from breads to tiny bites of the larger doughs. Bread muffins or rolls are more suitable for those on a budget. My eye tells me these are seeded breads with various combinations. They use buckwheat, sweet potato, and teff flour, nuts, seeds... The names mostly have women's names, which I personally find very appealing. Gluten-free, vegan, and even some histamine-free.
So, if you're not necessarily on a tight budget, have a lot of intolerances, or aren't particularly into baking, here's a healthy, wholesome combination.
My bread bars, one poppy seed and one topped with olives, taste good to me. They're compact, more comparable to seeded bread from well-known bread companies, nutty and delicious. I really missed the salt in the poppy seed, but that can be easily supplemented with a specific spread.
Conclusion:
A good alternative for some!
Prices from €1 to a loaf for around €8/€9
Gluten-free, keto, and low-carb.
A great breakfast spot for any fitness buddy or anyone simply watching their diet. All the ingredients are listed on the menu, even the calories. They only serve high-quality food. I'm really pleasantly surprised; it was a random choice. I can only say, top, top, top! 👍 🥐🍞
Everything freshly cooked! I love the bowls of the week. Almost always gluten-free possible and very tasty! Lovely people there and always well informed.
You can see my wild garlic bowl from the first visit in the picture. On the second visit today I was too hungry 😋
We were actually really excited - breakfast at the café in Altona, which offers vegan and gluten-free options, sounded like a perfect start to the day. Unfortunately, things got rather… disappointing.
I order matcha almost everywhere because I love how versatile the drink can be – and because to me it is more than “just a green tea”. It is a ritual, a taste experience, a real drink from the heart. What came next was all the more disappointing: a completely tasteless, strangely bitter-watery something that was probably supposed to be matcha. Perhaps. To be honest, we still don't know what was in the cup. But if it was matcha, then it was the worst possible quality.
And I really ask myself: How can a product like this even end up on the menu?
The service person was super friendly – no question about it – but when we asked, she honestly told us that she had never tried the drink herself. And that's when it rang a bell for me: I worked in the catering industry for many years, and it was standard practice for the entire team to try out new products before they ended up on the menu. Especially with sensitive drinks such as matcha or special coffee preparations, it is actually common practice to hold workshops or training courses to ensure quality and consistency.
But with this matcha? No chance.
I really can’t imagine anyone saying, “Yes, that’s delicious – that’s on the menu.”
And even though the café had gluten-free breakfast options, the food was mediocre, but quite expensive. If I'm going to spend a lot more money on a "special breakfast," then I want to get something that justifies the price - and that just wasn't the case here.
We returned the matcha (half full) but paid anyway - because we didn't want to blame the service. But I gave the feedback anyway. For me, leaving the drink on the menu like this is simply not fair treatment of guests.
Conclusion: I will not visit this cafe again. Not because the people there were unfriendly – quite the opposite. But because I think that a card also means responsibility. And because for that price I would rather buy a fair trade organic tea at the drugstore, sit down on a bench in downtown Altona - and have a better moment. Without any bitter, fishy surprise in the cup...
One of our favorite cafes! Delicious food, a relaxed atmosphere with the cats, and great gluten-free options! We come regularly and feel completely at home every time.
I was there today. The food is very tasty. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is completely gluten-free. Lentils and pseudo-grains are sorted out. Therefore, it is 100 percent recommended for those with celiac disease. I will definitely come again. The restaurant has a DZG seal.
Addition: The brunch today was also very tasty. The owner is very friendly. The first time I was able to eat everything at the buffet without paying attention to whether it was gluten-free or contaminated, because everything is gluten-free.
Cozy café with very good coffee and delicious food. There is always a gluten-free version of the bread and as a celiac I felt very safe. Absolute recommendation!
Celiac Disease Info: Rolls not free of gluten contamination, everything is baked in the same oven. Buckwheat waffles and scrambled eggs e.g. but easily edible
The people are incredibly nice and accommodating, we felt very comfortable and would love to come back! The breakfast menu is extensive, gluten-free rolls are available upon request and the scrambled eggs are great :)
I'm so so so glad to have found this place
It's just unreal good
You can order the whole menu and if you need gluten free food they got you covered!
Go there... like now
Rarely eaten so well vegan.
There were 3 of us.
We took five starters, each a main course (2x burgers & 1x curry) and two desserts + two peanut butter shots.
We were super full, everything was super tasty, the atmosphere was great, the service was nice.
Is gluten free 👍🏻
Simply fantastic. Nice atmosphere, delicious and aesthetically pleasing food. Healthy and great gluten-free options, and a great and easy ordering and payment system. Lana was just really nice and great! We'd love to come back!
Very nice atmosphere and above all great food! We were looking for a café for breakfast that also had gluten-free alternatives and found it here. There is gluten-free bread and also a gluten-free selection of cakes. We sat really nicely in the sun and even though it was very busy, the waitresses were very attentive and there were no unpleasant waiting times.
Super delicious breakfast at fair prices and great homemade cakes.
Lots of gluten free options.
Very friendly service, you can tell that the owners put their hearts into it.
We came for brunch on a Monday morning and had to wait 1.5 hours (!) for our two breads. The very friendly service employee informed us when ordering that it might take “a little longer”, there is a “Good things take time” lettering hanging on the wall and the back print on an employee’s T-shirt reminded us to chill (“Chill and enjoy the moment” or something similar) - so obviously something is going very wrong in time management here. The other guests were also not served or given drinks or food for ages. We felt really sorry for the winemaker because there was obviously a lack of staff. Unfortunately, the food wasn't convincing either. Unfortunately, the extremely bland tasting gluten-free bread from the pack from Schär ruined the whole dish (in this case avocado/peanut butter).
When we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted warmly and shown to our seats. When asked, the menu was explained, what was gluten-free, etc. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy, the colors were harmonious. We sat in the corner by the cushioned benches.
Every now and then people asked if something was needed. Waiting time was at most 15-30 minutes.
There were six of us and we were all very happy.
We would love to come back 👍🏻
A bonus: they offer yoga and palatis while dining on certain days.
A very nice café with some unusual drinks. There are some matcha latte variants such as strawberry and passion fruit. There is also a large selection of cold and hot drinks. The hot chocolate is very tasty.
Food-wise there are croffles, sandwiches and a little cake. The croffles with vanilla matcha pudding and Nutella are very tasty.
There are many vegetarian and vegan versions. The croffles can also be ordered in the gluten-free version. Instead of cow's milk, there are several other types of "milk".
However, the prices are quite high.
The café offers quite a lot of space and the staff is very friendly.
Great food, great ambience and lovely service. The menu has been written under funny and enjoyable way and made us laugh quite a few time! I am adding the restaurant to my favorites and will definitely visit again when in Hamburg. Good vegan vegetarian and gluten-free options.
For breakfast I was given gluten-free rolls upon request! Since it wasn't in the reviews or on the menu, I was very happy and finally got my fill with breakfast. So for everyone who also searches the reviews for gluten-free - there is! 😊 (But I don't know about the cakes). The scrambled eggs were also really the tastiest I've ever eaten.
Very friendly, funny, and accommodating. Great service. The pizza is unbeatable. Everything is available in vegan and gluten-free options. We'll be back soon. Thank you very much.
I had glutenfree Rocket Spring Roll and Avo Maki (without soy sauce) as you can see on the picture. The menu is marked (a - for gluten) but the staff not that well informed but showed me the rice paper as they where unsure.
It was nice and I had no symptoms although I’m highly sensitive.
Nice ambience, lovely service and not as fancy as the other shops, but the classic breakfast favorites (until 4 p.m.!). Animal welfare and fair trade at, in my opinion, fair prices for Winterhuder conditions. Gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan alternatives. I like being there :)
Great store with excellent service. Very very nice people. There are delicious gluten-free things, but for celiacs they use an extra deep fryer. We (almost) tried our way through the menu and can actually recommend everything: empanadas, patacones and especially delicious: arepas and yuca fritas. Everything was very tasty with matching dips and everything was gluten-free. Great. Everything is also quite “heavy”, a lot of it is fried - but of course it tastes very good too :)
