Disrespectful and unprofessional – that's not how you treat guests
We arrived with great anticipation, as the café advertises its vegan and gluten-free offerings – unfortunately, we were completely disappointed.
Despite several free tables, we were completely ignored. The waitress clearly saw us sitting down, but we simply weren't served. When we finally asked for the menu after some time, another waitress reprimanded us in an unfriendly and condescending tone – we "didn't wait" to be seated.
Such a tone, coupled with complete disinterest in the guest, is completely inappropriate in a restaurant. No one explained to us beforehand that we would have to wait to be assigned – and even if they had, that's not how you speak to people who come voluntarily to invest their time and money.
It's perfectly fine to have clear procedures – but the tone of voice makes the difference. What we experienced was simply disrespectful, unprofessional, and off-putting. The concept may be good, but that alone isn't enough when you treat your customers like this. Definitely a no-go for us!!!
We felt very unwelcome.
We've never been treated like this in a restaurant before.
Very disappointing!
That was really tasty! The best fries I've had in ages! Also suitable for people with celiac disease, the staff knows their stuff and offers gluten-free variations!
A sobering experience despite the cozy atmosphere
This is our third visit to "Pfeffermizje" – unfortunately, this visit was also characterized by poor service. Although the café was not very busy on a Friday morning, we had to wait a long time for a table because the waitress clearly had no overview of the available tables.
From the time we arrived until we placed our order, it took about 45 minutes – an unreasonably long time, especially since the staff walked past us several times without acknowledging us. Meanwhile, the manager was sweeping the terrace right next to us – a strange sight that conveyed little professionalism. The food also took almost an hour to arrive. After breakfast, we ordered two hot drinks, but they also didn't arrive after a wait of about 35 minutes. We ended up paying at the bar because no one else came to our table. In total, we were in the café for almost four hours.
The waitresses seemed stressed and seemed to have little training in using the cash register system or the general process. This seemed uncoordinated and unprofessional.
One positive I would like to highlight is that the café offers gluten-free rolls – however, they are very small and cost extra. The atmosphere in the back outdoor area is pleasant and generally inviting.
Conclusion: The concept has potential, but the service desperately needs improvement. Until this changes, I unfortunately cannot recommend the café.
Delicious Mexican food, nice casual atmosphere and great prices. It's also nice that there are plenty of gluten-free options. We like to come here when we are in Mainz.
Super cozy cafe with great service!
Also with intolerances and eating habits such as gluten-free, vegan, reduced-carbohydrate, etc. The kitchen addresses this, perhaps asks again, and draws attention to the ingredients.
Gluten-free baked goods are sealed so that no contamination is possible.
Reservation is worth it, especially on the weekend!
I like to drive from Bonn to the city flair for breakfast 🥰
Very friendly welcome.
The ambiance was lovely, the food was fantastic.
It was our first time there and we'll definitely be back.
Just for the gluten-free dishes, which my wife relies on.
We've been to many places in Germany and were always looking for restaurants that serve gluten-free food, but we hadn't found a restaurant like this one that prepares almost everything gluten-free.
The 33 km drive is definitely worth it.
Everything was great.
Small, very cozy café, absolutely a must for people with celiac disease and lactose intolerance.
Yesterday we tested the cakes and tarts, as well as the child-friendliness, with 3 children aged 2, 4 and 6 years. Test result: a straight A.
Today the two of us have a gluten-free breakfast with the large and small ones
Cheese breakfast + egg and jam and honey examined. Finally, one cocoa from the huge selection of cocoas. The result:
A repeat has already been threatened. We will often be there for breakfast and/or “coffee” including cake.
I hope we'll meet at Café Tomorrow soon.
A very cozy café, with a delicious breakfast (also gluten-free). Excellent cappuccino and coffee. Super friendly service who takes time to give advice despite the café being full. Gladly again!
We were pleasantly surprised to have a meal that catered to both myself (gluten-free / coeliac) and my partner (vegetarian). The service was great and the food was delicious - we especially enjoyed the homemade lemonades.
A super great cozy restaurant. Predominantly vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free. Which, as a vegan, I obviously think is great. and that's great and the prices are definitely too 💚 and the employees are so nice and welcoming a great place to relax
The good was great. I have a gluten allergy and went here 2 days in a row. The first day the server was nice, the second day the server was a bit short attitude wise. I gave very specific details on the "create your own pasta" option. My food was good the first day. The second day the order came out incorrectly but then was fixed correctly. The second server seemed to have an attitude but became more polite as the meal continued. All in all the food was good and the service was good.
I have 3 stars because of the bathroom. The rest of the restaurant was great. I will say that I did complain the first day that the bathrooms stink something awful. I didn't even go into the restroom the 2nd visit. I told them that it smelled like a porta potty that had been sitting in the hot sun, in New Orleans, during Mardi Gras, used by thousands of people. That's not an exaggeration. It was awful. They were aware of the situation and said that they were working on it but nothing had been done yet. I react to air fresheners but that would have been better than the stinky smell.
Nice restaurant with regional but also international standard dishes. Cocktail menu relatively extensive and good. However, you should try to take the happy hour (8-10 p.m.) with you, otherwise the cocktails cost around €10, which doesn't justify the price.
What's great is that we use sustainable straws aka pasta! 👍🏼
However, the waitress should initially inform the waiter about gluten intolerance.
We get three stars because we had to wait a very, very long time even when ordering drinks.
I can totally understand that orders take a long time, but even with good occupancy it should be possible to deliver 2-3 drinks (non-alcoholic/cocktails) within a 30 minute window.
So please be prepared that it may take a long time.
