I was hesitant to write this review because it's really specific to a really hurtful experience as someone with celiac disease. Honestly if you don't have any dietary restrictions, just ignore this since the food/service otherwise is excellent..
I had eaten here several times before and loved it before this experience which was frankly enough to take it off the list for me and to leave a warning for anyone with celiac or food allergies- I ordered my food and was sitting at the table right next to the open kitchen when one of the cooks loudly complained about the celiac order. We ended up leaving without waiting for the food because it was hurtful and totally uncalled for. Not only that, but the staff denied anything was said (again, I was sitting right next to the man who loudly made the comment)- if it had been addressed, then I wouldn't leave a public review. Options for eating out with celiac are limited, so I'm really bummed to have to cross this one off the list due to an unwelcoming environment.
Excellent food and service. The waiter was very knowledgeable about allergies and they were able to accommodate gluten sensitivity / Celiac requirements.
The crepe was super good with lots of flavor! They even had gluten free buckwheat which was really yummy! Staff were kind and helpful. Those big chairs were fun to sit in! 😊
They marked GF on entrées that could be made gluten-free. The server was very knowledgeable about what I could and couldn't have and even checked labels on the Gelato to make sure it was OK. I got the Ahi Tuna and it was everything I had hoped for. The drinks were divine. My family is not GF but they ordered the crab patty burger, crab patty salad, shrimp scampi, the short ribs and the fish burger. The kiddos got the loaded brownie and it was a hit.
I can't say enough how great everything I at Cinnamon's. Very friendly service, great plating and food. Although most foods had some gluten component, they were very accommodating and easily adapted the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon to be gluten free. It was the best Benedict I've had in years.
If you're in Kailua and looking for a breakfast experience that combines the best of local flavors and classic breakfast fare, Moke's Bread & Breakfast should be on your radar. Nestled in the heart of Kailua, this cozy establishment offers a delightful and homely atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the 'ohana (family) as soon as you walk in.
The star attraction here is undoubtedly the lilikoi pancakes—fluffy, buttery pancakes topped with a bright, tangy passionfruit sauce that will make you question why you ever settled for plain old maple syrup. If pancakes aren't your thing, fret not; the menu offers a wide range of choices, from hearty omelettes packed with local ingredients to the satisfying loco moco.
Portion sizes are generous, ensuring that you won't leave hungry. The freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite, and it's clear that the kitchen pays attention to detail. Vegetarians and gluten-free diners will also find options here, making it a versatile choice for groups.
Service is another area where Moke's shines. Staff are warm and welcoming, making the experience feel more like a family gathering than a restaurant visit. Even during busy periods, they manage to keep things moving efficiently while maintaining their friendly demeanor.
That being said, the popularity of Moke's can also be a drawback. Wait times, especially on weekends or holidays, can be quite long, so be prepared for that. While the restaurant has done its best to create a cozy atmosphere, the dining space is relatively small, and it can get noisy when full.
Overall, Moke's Bread & Breakfast provides a satisfying and authentically Hawaiian dining experience. Despite the potential for long waits and a crowded dining area, the outstanding food and exceptional service make it a must-visit when you're in Kailua.
Wonderful food, so creative and delicious, using local ingredients!!!. My whole family looks forward to dining here every year on our annual visits to Hawaii. Service is always lovely and gracious, especially with my questions about choices for accomodating my celiac disease.
