This was our first visit to Cafe Desta and it was amazing! The food was delicious and the restaurant is lovely. We will definitely be returning. Great place for people who are vegan and/or gluten free!
Ate it so fast didn't grab a photo. But absolutely delish. One of our favorite weekend breakfast stops when we're near by. I love the gluten free omelette. The smoked tomato has the perfect extra flavor. It's absolutely yum. I tend to stick to one item once I find it, but my husband has tried many different offerings and never a complaint. Highly recommend stop by and take a try. Not sure the bloody Marys are gluten free, but I drool every time one walks by the table. Give it a try.
Short & Sweet
Comfy, art-filled café on 4th Ave, perfect for a bite, local vibes, and supporting the community. Brewing coffee and connection in Tucson’s heart.
Longer Musings
Café Maggie’s on 4th Ave is the kind of coffee shop that fits you like an old pair of denim—comfortable, worn-in, and ready for all the possibilities. Nestled just steps from the 4th Ave Streetcar and close to the University of Arizona, it’s got an effortless artsy vibe that just is what it’s meant to be—an authentic local spot.
Inside, rotating local art fills the walls, community event flyers are tucked along the windows, and a mutual aid water station outside speaks to the café’s dedication to supporting neighbors. It’s the kind of space where chance meetings birth creative change, where ideas flow as easily as the coffee, and revolutionary conversations stoke impassioned visions for tomorrow.
You’ll find me here on sunny afternoons with my favorite drink, an extra dirty hot chai latte- perfection! ☕️ 🥧 Their menu has something for everyone, whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, have restrictions, or simply curious. Today I had the avocado toast and was pleasantly surprised to find they kept it simple and let the flavors speak for themselves! Not sure what to order? Just ask—the staff is as welcoming as the space itself.
With seating inside and out, nearby metered parking, and convenient options to pay with cash, card, or tap, Café Maggie’s makes grabbing a coffee or meal here easy. And don’t miss the people-watching! Located near the University and in the heart of historic 4th Ave, it’s perfect for a quick escape, gathering with friends, or just being in the moment.
I love everything about REN ! Gluten free and vegan options . The mushroom latte ,vegan tamale & bagel with vegan cream cheese are my fave ! Indoor & outdoor courtyard seating . Typically very busy . Very vibey.
First trying Cafe a la c’Art in chandler and it was phenomenal. I have food allergies and sometimes worry about eating at places. They have gluten free options and I was able to order my breakfast without dairy as well. Ellie was amazing. She asked how she could accommodate me and not in an annoying way. She gave so many different options for dairy free items and knew what foods had it in and didn’t. The food was phenomenal. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had hands down. My husband has no allergies and loved his omelet. Their fresh juices are great as well as their tea selection. They have something for everyone there. You won’t be disappointed. Give it a try.
Be careful coming here with a gluten allergy. Although we made it explicitly clear this is a life threatening allergy this situation was handled with no care. This pancake was very clearly not the one I ordered but the waitress insisted I eat it until 5 minutes later she takes it back and doesn’t even say a word, and guess what. I still got cross contaminated and am sick from this food. Absolutely terrible place I wish I never came.
Great restaurant close to Albertsons and my dry cleaners. Perfect stop after errands. Everyone seems to love it too, very crowded and well staffed. Lots of gluten-free and dairy-free options to choose from on the menu.
I'm going back and sit out on the patio in the shade and soak up the vibes.
Really enjoyed their house black bean burger and homemade fries. Vanilla gluten-free cupcake for dessert was awesome. The staff is super attentive and friendly ...very good vibe about the place. Purchased some deli meat from the refrigerated section and one of the staff gave us a sample of their homemade vegan roast beef. Look forward to trying that tonight.
A neat spot with seemingly good gluten free options... Went for breakfast and their potatoes are not gluten free! They are fried in a fryer with gluten food so not safe for true gluten free needs. This greatly limited my option to one plate of food the chilaquiles. I like to eat healthy, not chips, and would have liked better options. Meal was good for what it was, wish they could figure out how to make potatoes gluten free, or have a gluten free option for those that need it. The rest of my party does not have dietary restrictions, and enjoyed their meals.
Waitress was awful. I had to ask for coffee multiple times, and other drinks. I had to ask other staff for refills as I saw her come by but not even make make eye contact with the table to check on us, even as I held up my empty cup. Coffee cups very small.
Heaters available outside for tables if too busy inside that work well.
Beautiful outside, a wee bit windy 💨 Great service. The phenomenal gluten free blueberry-oatmeal pancakes were not made as well as the Bisbee Breakfast Club on Kolb/Carondelet, (pancake batter not cooked and 2nd pancake, ok.) I picked at my pancakes. Had friends from out of town and didn’t want to complain. My colleagues meals were delicious! Next time will say something and of course WILL GO BACK AGAIN ❣️
They still got it!
Like many a Tucsonan, I had occasioned Revolutionary Grounds in the before time when they were down on 4th Ave and nobody was afraid of a scratchy throat, but rumor had it they were pushed out by rent increases just before the pandemic and lost to the annals of history. So I was thrilled to learn from my momma that they had since moved into her neighborhood and were basically offering the same fare. I dropped by, ordered a delicious double cap and a gluten free choco bar, and was immediately transported to a better time when left/liberals weren't trying to rebrand Liz Cheney as a hero. Lol
Anyway, the book shelves appear to have grown and the new space is generally inviting. The walls are adorned with art and quotes from the radical intelligentsia, and everything tastes great. They even have a couple corners for the kiddos, which is new, and outdoor seating for the sun and disease-conscious.
I'm really glad these folks survived. I'll definitely go back. You should, too.
I love this place! We have been going here for many years and it's always had very high quality food at a reasonable price. There are two things you need to try if you go here. The first item is the eggs. They are so fresh and good! No idea who they get them from but they are the best in town. The other I am reluctantly telling you this becuase they can sometimes be hard to get is the Lebuzz Cookie they are amazing! I think they may be Gluten Free too but do not quote me on it. Sometimes I stray and eat their chocolate cookies as well. It gets very busy in the mornings but they turn over tables pretty fast and you can normally find a place to sit quickly. Anyways, if you like breakfast food eat here! As far as freshness and food they are the best in town. They aren't the cheapest breakfast place but they are very good and still very reasonable. 5 Stars!
They were all very friendly. Being Celiac this is important to me. They now do eggels. Bagel shaped eggs. You can get them with a smear & coffee here is always great.
there to a line out the door. thankfully cool AZ evening and line moved fast. Friendly staff and creative selections. Best is vegan ice cream and even gluten free cones. Had the vegan blueberry super scrumptious.
I came back a second time for the prickly pear matcha latte-delicious! Also tried the gluten free oatmeal cream pie which was so yummy! Definitely recommend this as a study spot or just to hang out. However the parking lot is small.
Good bacon but each time I visit I am disappointed because the gluten and dairy-free options become more limited. Today I went and was told the gluten-free bread contains dairy, even though I looked at the ingredient list and saw no dairy ingredients. If you're not worried about food allergies, then you're good! However, if you do suffer from food allergies, maybe try somewhere else.
This is a great locally-owned business! The prices are the best I've seen in Tucson. And the coffee is EXCELLENT! I strongly suggest the cortado, as it is made perfectly! There is an option for oat or almond milk.
There are excellent homemade pastries as well. Some are gluten-free and some are not. I had the warm flaky soft croissants. The vibe is relaxed and friendly. The staff are kind and welcoming!
Stopped in briefly, but service was friendly and the gluten-free blueberry snack they had was A1. Additionally, the atmosphere was perfect for the study session I had to get done.
Fun place with so many choices of different cultures from American to Mexican and Japanese. A friend had this beautiful 22.00 seafood platter with shrimp and baby coconut which was so good. I had 2 keto birria tacos for 5.00 each since I'm gluten free. I ordered 2 and 1 was big enough for lunch and everyone in my group wanted one. Fried cheese is the tortilla for a keto birria taco! Delicious
Love the coffee and the gluten free offerings! Also that they're dog friendly!

We visited from out of town and went every morning. House made syrups and chai in addition to some unique lattes and a yummy almond cake (that happens to be gluten free). Awesome place to grab a cup with great conversations!
It's a very great place to relax and enjoy delicious Boba. My friend and I were pleased to find out that they have gluten and dairy free staff with less sweet. I brought some of it home, and my grandkids love it, too. The space was stunning, bright, clean, with amazing decor, and very friendly staff. Definitely will be back.
They have a gluten free bagel! I know that seems like not so exciting to many but for someone who can never get a snack because of gluten allergies with their coffee or drink… it’s a big deal. I went for the first time yesterday and I was so happy to see the gluten free option and it was the best damn bagel I’ve ever had, flufffffy and warm and a lot of cream cheese which I looooove. Coffee was alright, I def wanna try a stronger roast next time which I will be! Great experience for this girl, thanks for having a gluten free option! New fav coffee place!
3-4 Veg options, all decent, vegans would be welcome to having choices, always nice to see. Quick service, order online system works well. Wish gluten- free and Avocado had a bit cheaper options. I recommend Salams Shawarma(seitan), good serving sizes.
