Very nice dining atmosphere at this venue and there was an acoustic music gig as well on Halloween. There's a gluten free menu too which is great. Overall, the service was very friendly, especially from Mallory the waitress who served me. The shop could be stocked with a wider variety of souvenir items though.
I chose this place for lunch with my family as I had read the amazing reviews (especially about their accommodations for gluten allergies). Most of our group ordered the lunch special, and all of our food was amazing! We especially enjoyed the crispy fries.
The atmosphere, decor, and music were great, and the attention to detail was clear, even during the somewhat spooky trek to the basement washrooms.
I highly recommend this place for a delicious meal 😋

I went for the unlimited tapas last night and I explicitly said multiple times that I’m allergic to gluten and they fed me 3 gluten tacos. In which I had to go hospital after the dinner. - they still charged me for the meal.
good drinks, good service. unfortunately nothing gluten free AND vegan on the menu!
still have as many stars because their service was impeccable and their knowledge on allergies was great!
Wow, this place was just amazing. We spent 2.5 weeks in Scotland and this was probably our favorite restaurant/meal of the trip. Food and cocktails were amazing. I can’t have gluten and even their meals with no gluten ingredients were fantastic. Wish we had time to go back a second time.
Went here on the afternoon I got engaged for a little meal & glass of champagne. The service was great, tables are spacious, seats are comfortable.
Fiancé & I shared the fish & chips. They were made gluten free for my gluten free dietary restriction (celiacs disease) and was the best fish & chips I had in Edinburgh while I was visiting.
The crust was light and the sauce provided was also tasty. The chips were nothing super special but tasted pretty good as a compliment to the fish.
Thanks for adding to my special engagement day, catering to my allergy, and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone in the area!

The staff were extremely accommodating. My partner has coeliac disease and they reassured her that it was safe for her to eat here. They provided her with plenty of options that she could enjoy, rather than focusing on what she couldn't have. The service was quick and friendly. We will definitely be returning.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough! Best afternoon tea experience in a gorgeous setting. Extremely fair price for the amount of food you get and the quality. I picked this place because it has a fully vegan afternoon tea menu as well as a gluten free one, which was perfect for our group. Everything on the vegan menu was delicious and beautiful (see picture)! Our server, Mya, went above and beyond. She was so helpful and friendly - also a fellow Swiftie! We really enjoyed chatting with her!

This is a bar focused restaurant, so it's quite casual. Gluten-free churros, with delicious dip- highly recommended. Yum! The roasted beets ranged from cold to hot but mostly luke warm. Beets tasted good, but I was bothed by the temperature inconsistency. I was told this was normal.
Went with my mum and aunt, mum is coeliac. Both rated their food 10/10 (and are usually a little fussy). My burger was great, chips fluffy and generous portions. Beef burger slightly pink and tender, gluten free fish and chips crumbed batter lovely and crisp. Service very friendly and warm.
I am writing to share a serious concern regarding my recent visit to your restaurant, ( THE IVY ON THE SQUARE EDINBURGH as I believe it is important for you to learn from this experience and prevent similar situations in the future.
On Saturday, I visited your restaurant for breakfast with my daughter. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the host at the entrance, which gave us a positive first impression. We inquired whether your restaurant could cater to allergies, and we were reassured that your staff was highly knowledgeable about such matters.
Based on this assurance, we ordered sourdough bread and avocado. The waiter informed us that he would ensure the dish did not contain dairy, as my daughter has a severe dairy allergy.
However, just a few minutes after my daughter had taken several bites, the waiter returned and abruptly took the plate from her, saying he needed to double-check something. He reappeared shortly after with a smile, saying that everything was fine, but admitted that he had made a mistake when inputting the order—indicating “gluten” instead of “dairy” as the allergy to avoid.
To make matters worse, he returned the same dish to my daughter instead of preparing a fresh one. This not only felt unhygienic but also demonstrated a lack of care and understanding of how allergies should be handled. Given the circumstances, it seemed unprofessional and dismissive of the seriousness of the situation.
He then casually added, “If you want to talk to someone about this, my name is Rachel,” which we found shocking. A mistake like this could have had severe consequences for my daughter or anyone else with a life-threatening allergy. It was deeply concerning that the situation was treated so lightly.
This experience has left me questioning the seriousness with which your team handles allergy-related requests. Given the potential for life-threatening consequences, it is crucial that your staff undergo thorough training to handle allergies responsibly and with the utmost care.
I hope this feedback prompts immediate action to review your processes and training regarding allergy management. I look forward to hearing how you plan to address this issue.
Top 5 Ever, not hyperbole.
For context, over the decades we have eaten our way around Europe and across North America in establishments from 3-star Michelin to local Cafes.
The dinner we experienced at this restaurant was definitely one of the best we've ever had.
What made it so special?
Let's start with the service - impeccable yet still fun and engaging.
Now the food. The depth of flavour in ALL the dishes, the presentation of ALL the dishes and the little extra touches of "surprise flavour undertones" was mind-blowing.
The Red Deer starter was actually indescribable. Tender, a tiny bit of spice and a tiny bit of sweet. Perfection.
The Duck (one of my favorite items on any menu) was in season, was cooked to M.R. perfection. Tender, with easy cut skin.
The vegetarian tortellini (ordered although neither of us are vegetarian) was brilliant. They take 3 days(!) to make the sauce just right.
As a side, The smoky mashed potatoes are a must if they're available.
All this created in a small galley kitchen on a ship.
Gluten and dairy free was ZERO problem for the chef.
The Negroni and the rose cocktail just completed the evening.
Pizzas were excellent, including one gluten free. Shame there were no sides that were GF although we were given a side salad. Bottle of Malbec bit expensive at £27 . Staff and atmosphere very good. Will be back.

Really good food and friendly staff! Accommodated our gluten free request too which was amazing! We didn’t do the boozy brunch but definitely will when we return!
We went here earlier today 15/06/25 and it was really nice. Hubby is gluten free and most of the menu is coeliac friendly which is fab. Portions are good and a good selection on the menu - quite a lot of chilli so if you are not a fan choose wisely.
Staff lovely- we were served by Eileen who was very helpful and friendly and knowledgeable of any dietary requirements.
My only one issue is that it was really chilly - make sure you have a jumper/ jacket even if it is 18 degrees outside.
Thanks Pho- we will be back. Restuarants like this deserve return custom x
