We've been coming here for several years. The food is consistently yummy and the service (especially the family who owns the restaurant) is truly lovely. I usually eat vegan and gluten free, and there are a lot of options here for me. They have lots of regular clients, but if you're new to the area, I highly recommend checking it out.
My spouse arranged in advance with the head chef for a vegetarian/gluten-free seven-course meal. While the food tasted great and was plated beautifully, I was glutened and severely sick within minutes of leaving the restaurant. I let the head chef/owner know that the accommodations were not met, to which I received a very obviously ChatGPT-written response. It was extremely disappointing that not only was I made sick, the response I received had little to no effort put into it. A week ago I sent a response and still haven’t heard back. Paying more than $500 for accommodations to not be met and the follow-on communication (and eventual lack thereof) is ridiculous. Stay away anyone who has celiac.
I need to eat gluten-free and dairy-free. I ordered the Milano’s special with hot peppers and vegan cheese. I substituted the pepperoni for extra bacon. It was a 10 out of 10! I asked to have it ready for 1 pm since I was driving through the area. The gentleman who served me was knowledgeable about which meats were safe for me, had it ready on time and was super friendly. I will be sure to give him my business every time I come through Carleton Place.
I have to admit I was taken by surprise by the sheer amount of options and coffee this little cute Cafe had going on. We went for lunch and what a delicious lunch it was. My husband had the crepe with a side of nicely roasted potatoes and I had the BLT with the optional fried egg and avocado. The amount of food was absolutely worth the price which I found reasonable. I was delighted by the decor and the available purchase options for coffee and several treats like samosa. What I found they did different from everyone else, was the gluten free options. There was a lot of choices. When in Carleton Place please swing by and give this cafe your time. It's well worth the effort.

Absolutely incredible service and food!
What a great experience all around. A celiacs dream with incredibly knowledgeable staff and a menu that is far from limited!
Amazing poutine with dedicated Gluten Free fryer, thank you!
Yummy combinations (also gluten free!), and truly crispy fries!
A visit doesn't disappoint and is always a family favourite!!
I have celiac disease and rarely get takeout because the choices are limited and also cross-contamination can make me ill. I took a chance at the Subway in Carleton Place and was served by Christine. When I told her I needed gluten free, she asked if I was celiac or gluten free (there is a difference). No one in the food industry has ever asked me this so I was pleasantly surprised. She then prepared my subs away from the regular prep station to avoid contamination and toasted them by themselves.
She was one of the most pleasant people I've met and was not at all put out over the special treatment my order required.
Thanks Christine for the extra effort
Now, if they could create a gluten free bread that is as good as the regular choices.

We thoroughly enjoy our visits to Deadly Grounds! Whether it's coffee or tea, their beverages are consistently delicious. The entertaining horror-themed names enhance the overall enjoyment. On my last visit, when I couldn't decide, the staff kindly suggested rolling the dice for a random drink – a unique touch! The owners and staff have consistently shown kindness and patience with customers.
Being someone with Celiac disease, I value the staff's thorough understanding of drink ingredients. At Deadly Grounds, I'm relieved to find that specialty drinks are safe for me, making it a standout experience. I highly recommend visiting Deadly Grounds!
Just ordered a Greek gluten free pizza and garlic dip - so good! All of you/us gluten free people, you will not be disappointed! It actually tasted and smelled like the real deal :) I have had GF pizzas from many establishments in Ottawa and this was by far the best GF pizza I have had.
We chose Boulton House to host a wedding rehearsal dinner on November 17, 2021 for 11 people. We had never been there before and we trusted all of the fantastic reviews. This restaurant exceeded our expectations! We simply can't say enough good things about the food and service we received. We'd like to give a big shout-out to "Shannon" who so graciously and wonderfully served our table and to the chef(s)? who provided some of the best meals we have ever had. A big "thank you" also goes to Chris who so patiently helped me choose the wines to serve. For people who must eat a strict gluten-free diet, two of our guests have Celiac Disease and they enjoyed a delicious appetizer of GF calamari and followed by GF Scallop Tagliatelle and they raved about how good it was. Thank you, Boulton House, for giving us a wedding rehearsal meal to remember always!! We'll be back!!
I performed a comedy hypnosis show there, and the staff were fantastic, working in the packed room! I had the burger with a gluten free bun (which can usually be hit or miss...but this one was pretty good!), and it was great!! 3 Pool tables, beauty sized bar, and friendly locals...what more could you ask for?!
Absolutely amazing service that actually respects people's accommodations and allergies.
I have celiac disease which means I am unfortunately unable to eat gluten (wheat, barley, etc.) unless I want to get really sick. One time, I ordered the Zac's Big Breakfast here and had asked them to replace the home fries (which weren't gluten-free) with some fresh fruit. They sent in the plate with home fries, and I immediately told them about it. Instead of being very weirdly defensive about it or denying that it had cross contamination (like other diners are around the area), they immediately apologized and gave me a new plate with the fresh fruit instead of the home fries. I came back there a few weeks later, and ordered the same thing. They remembered me and made sure that what I ordered did not have any cross contamination.
Aside from that, the food is pretty fresh and standard diner food. If you like eating out at old-fashioned diners, then you won't be disappointed. The waitress working there with the curly hair is also really nice. The atmosphere can be packed with people and can feel overwhelming for some but hey, shit happens.
This diner has been very accommodating and very understanding for people with celiac disease, which is incredibly refreshing considering the Zak's Diner in Kanata removed gluten-free options on their menu, and I highly recommend this place if you have celiac disease or know someone who suffers from it.
