This place was most amazing at dealing with food for my coeliac son. We had booked dinner and when we turned up they had our booking sorted and took care of all my sons needs without any issue. They had lots on the menu that were gluten free and were safe for coeliacs. Probably the first time my son really got to enjoy a whole meal out, complete with dessert! The staff were amazing and were so friendly and helpful, nothing was a problem. Thanks Smugglers, for a great dinner and experience. Definitely recommend to our friends.
The food was absolutely delicious, and catered so well for my husband who is coeliac. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant had a great atmosphere.
Delicious food and chai; ended up going twice while I was in town because the gluten free cornbread with the eggs benedict was stuck in my mind. Skip the pork belly and go with the bacon though, a much better pairing.
Delicious amazing flavoured burgers. Big selection. Very accommodating with vegan & gluten free menu. Only negative was my partner said his gf bun was dry, suggest this be toasted. Funky vibe atmosphere with link to beer spot next door which goes hand in hand.
River Kitchen catered for our event over three days, and were absolutely superb. We had vegan and gluten free catering, and they provided delicious varied options. Their customer service is also top quality, we would absolutely use them again.

Been ordering food from here for a few weeks now and I'm amazed at the consistent quality of the food and the care extra care that's taken with the gluten free stuff I have to have nowadays. The burgers are amazing and my missus loves the doughballs😁
Our favorite cafe for delicious gluten-free options and super yummy food. It is only cabinet food, but this means it's ready quickly, good if you have limited time. Great coffee and nice, friendly service. Don't go late as they close promptly and sometimes run out of the gf options.
This has become my favourite place to eat out in Nelson. The food is always fresh and delicious (the dolma are heavenly!), and the service is always excellent. The food is very reasonably priced for the portion and taste, and they are able to cater to coeliacs.
Make sure to get an apple tea with your meal and you'll leave happy!
The Aperol Spritz was amazing; however, the manager was incredibly rude. One of my friends is gluten intolerant, so we were looking for gluten-free pizza. They had some on the menu, but then they told us they couldn’t make it that day after we had already ordered our drinks. Everything was fine, and we enjoyed our drinks, but we couldn’t order anything to eat and decided to just have drinks and go somewhere else for dinner. When we told the waiter, the manager came over and said we had 20 minutes to finish our drinks and leave. Ten minutes later, he shouted at us, saying he needed the table and that this was not “a bar.”
I can't remember the last time I was treated so rude and disrespectful in a restaurant. Never again!
Dined in at the restaurant, my partner is a coeliac and had a gluten-free Pad Thai. I got myself the Duck Roti (highly recommend, can easily feed two), and a chicken Pad Thai. The staff were amazing and very friendly, service was very good and food came out fast. Would definitely dine there again.
Came here for lunch on a whim and was not disappointed! Delicious crepe options with option to swap any flavors for a gluten free galette base. We all had the crepes and all were fantastic. Great coffee too. Staff was extremely friendly. Highly recommend!
this is me leaving my first and only google review. this place is incredible. the staff were the kindest people ever and so catering, I reserved a table for 6pm and at 5:50pm called up to change my reservation time to 6:30pm because we were running late and they were so incredibly polite about it and made it such an easy experience. the food we got was cooked to absolute perfection and tasted so good, and as someone with celiac, there were so many gluten-free options to choose from which is sometimes hard to come across. the serving times were relatively quick considering that the restaurant was almost a full house. overall my experience was an 11/10 and I will definitely be bringing my girlfriend back here in the future.
Oh my goodness..... what a meal! Started with some edamame beans with a garlic twist..... being gluten free, there were only two things on the menu for a main. Not feeling like sashimi, we had the lamb..... exploding with a flavour punch and falling apart with tenderness..... holy crap the meal ended too soon..... so we asked about a gluten free dessert, not disappointed at all!..... the chocolate miso delice was to die for..... the chefs, wait staff and bar persons have truly given us a meal and drinkies to remember..... thank you for your hard work and service for your customers...... As a celiac, I was so impressed! I had one of the best gluten-free breads I’ve ever tasted and it's homemade!! Also, gluten-free pizza was delicious too. Everything was so tasty and 100% worth it!
Excellent food and fun atmosphere! Almost all the menu is Gluten-free as well. We tried the Burritos, guacamole, tacos, chorus, chocolate cake, classic margarita - all were super tasty, fresh and lovely!
Had a fabulous lunch here. The staff were very helpful. My niece is coeliac and cannot have even a trace of gluten. The staff went above and beyond to make sure her meal was safe.
Awesome gluten free gnocchi! Italian approved! Perfect pillowy consistency and great portion size! I had the taleggio and spinach ones and absolutely loved them! Highly recommended :)
We celebrated a family occasion and knew we would be a happy party so we booked the small private room which was perfect for a small group. Julian the waiter was exceptional.. his service to us was knowledgeable on the food and wine he served. Very professional and laughed along with party. He did very well to manage a happy party. We had Trust the Chef which was not short of amazing, fresh well presented food and Julian did well catering for our gluten free dairy free and peanut allergies

My hubby ordered his meal to be Gluten Free so we could share meals, he ordered a side of Mushroom Sauce (not gf) and the manager came to talk to us about the fact it was not gluten free and would put in in a side dish to prevent cross contamination. The extra care blew my mind, you do not find this at many restaurants and to be honest most places I have dined at lately the service has been less than average but not the Lone Star Nelson. If you want good food, great atmosphere and incredible service this place should not be missed.

One of the guests has dairy intolerance, the staff were knowledgeable about the food that can be made dairy free and they do have "allergies menu" available on request which clearly indicates which items are dairy free, vegan, gluten free, etc.
The food was lovely, the staff were friendly.
They do have nice outside booths which worked really well on warm summer evening.
(I had "kiwi hot" chicken jalfrazi and then gulab jamun for dessert.)
I usually am a lover of the vic for their gluten free burgers, i’m not sure if they changed the gluten free bun they used or just ran out but it was very soggy and not crunchy at all like usual, please bring it back if you have gotten rid of it
Best pizza in town! Sizes are huge, owner great and the staff amazing. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Gluten-free and vegan options available. Dessert is great too! A must if you are in Nelson!

I love this Cafe/Bulk Food shop for a quick drink or getting the essentials on the way home. The shop is kept super tidy and with a variety of bulk goods it caters a wide range of diets. My favourite is the Bounty Gluten and Dairy Free Slice because it's not too sweet.
I would also recommend the Beetroot Latte (Pictured below) or the Iced Chocolates- they have dairy free hot chocolate powder! Don't forget to check out the GF bread mix options and variety of flours for all your baking needs.
Requested gluten free cheesy fries with bacon. It was delicious! The counter staff explained the separate frier & that it would be 20 mins; but it was well worth the wait. Also had 6 different slices & biscuits in a separate cabinet. Very friendly & knowledgeable service.
Superb food, great location! Although the menu looks uninviting in regard to dietary accommodations, they are extremely willing to accommodate for any. Perfect for someone who is severely celiac. The server was friendly, and coffee was yummy. Will be returning when I next visit Nelson 🙂
I enjoyed a wonderful evening dinner on the deck with perfect weather and great company the Friday before last. The wait staff were very friendly, polite and some of us had particular requests in relation to the menu. One person was gluten free. I am not a coleslaw fan so the young man said he would check with the chef as to an alternative salad. I said some green leaves and tomato would suffice but was given a Greek salad to go with my steak and chips which exceeded my expectations.
Only one gripe. I ordered the steak, and the menu stated it was a Rib Eye Fillet. I have been around for quite some time and the meat I received was probably a sirloin or rump. The shape or taste was nothing life a rib eye fillet and it required a steak knife to eat it. It was cooked to perfection but not what the menu stated. Otherwise a very pleasant evening in the most perfect setting in Nelson.
Gorgeous little cafe with heaps of gluten-free options! Had the gf/df banoffee waffles and they were so good. Love a filter coffee as well. Lots of GF options in the cabinet as well so had a savory loaf and sweet muffin on my second visit. Would definitely come back here any time we’re in Nelson ☺️
Wow! What a find! Excellent choices, very clean, helpful staff and an excellent gluten free selection. Staff were also very helpful to offer freshly made gluten free for Coeliac.
We stumbled upon this cafe and went in for brunch. We were greeted immediately with a smile and good morning - great start. The excellent service continued from there followed up with lovely food. I needed gluten free options and there were many. We will definitely return next time we are in Nelson!!

The elegant space created by hospitality veterans Hunter and Ko is only matched by the impeccable service and attention to detail of the team.
The degustation with paired wines was nothing less than sensational. An homage to the very best local ingredients prepared with flair and pizazz, yet never ostentatiously. Bold, yet disciplined. Playful, but respectful.
Thoroughly recommend this one... Worthy of a detour. Despite its modest size and degustation only style, the kitchen perfectly accommodated my spouse's gluten intolerance.
