Love this place. Highly recommend a reservation. We couldn't get a reservation but got take-out & ate at their picnic tables! Saw many people go in and immediately leave because Sinful Kitchen was full up! Their are allergy aware & have many gluten-free & vegetarian options. Our group had the Monte Cristo, a fav, 2 different kinds of eggs Benedict- classic & crab, strawberry waffles, & corned beef hashvw eggs. I also love the BBQ jackfruit. We are not nearby but try to go at least 2x a yr.
Chef Emma created a fabulous Thanksgiving meal, served by the most pleasant and helpful staff. The service was excellent, the food was great for our gluten-free, vegan -adjacent diets!! I’d give more stars if I could!!
Amazing spot! The GF IPA was so good we went to buy some at the liquor store after dinner! My husband and I had the burger and pizza and would never guess they were both GF!
Very knowledgeable staff for allergies. I got the fish tacos and when I asked the waitress about switching the sauce from a dairy one she had an amazing recommendation! The tacos came as a rice bowl for GF and had an allergy notice indicated on my meal. Amazing place!
My review is about their gluten free options. Cannot comment on their gluten filled options.
To sum it up, I am a late in life celiac sufferer. Went over 35 years enjoying gluten and all the wonders of eating it. Then suddenly, my body decides to flip the switch, and I cannot process gluten. I am asymptomatic, in that my body kind of shuts down if I ingest even the tiniest microscopic amount of gluten. That being said, I usually don’t even bother with fancy doughnut places like this because they usually don’t offer gluten free options. But I was on a day trip to Portland with the family, and my wife is always on the lookout for gluten free things for me, and this place is highly regarded. Plus, when we got to Portland, there was a huge long line around the corner. Kind of peaked my interest, especially considering I am also allergic to seafood, so I cannot even enjoy the other thing people enjoy in Portland, lobster.
So family enjoys their lobster lunch, and before we leave the area to move on to our next point of interest, I get in line to grab a few doughnuts. I mask up, given that it is a doughnut shop, and given I can be have a reaction from just even a speck of flour in the air, better to be safe than sorry. Line has shortened by this point, so the wait is not too bad, only a few minutes. I get up, order my doughnuts. A chocolate sea salt, a cinnamon sugar, a lemon, and a cherry. All gluten free. We get into our car and drive away.
Big caveat here I need to mention, given my allergy, we never have anything wheat based in the car to eat, due to my allergy. All snacking in the car is gluten free, to make sure I do not have any reactions while I am driving. When my family eats anything with gluten, they wash and sanitize their hands thoroughly afterwards, and if they get any on their clothing, they change. Yes, my reactions are that severe.
So I eat the first doughnut, no problem. We get to our next destination. Take photos so the tourist thing, blah blah. Get in the car, drive to next destination. I eat the second doughnut. Drive to next destination. Take photos, do the tourist thing, blah blah. You get the idea.
Around 4pm I eat the 3rd doughnut, the lemon gluten free. I am driving, on the highway, suddenly, I start to get that contaminated feeling. My stomach starts churning, I start getting horrible heartburn, can’t stop having gas being expelled from both ends, and my body starts to ache all over. I have to pull over to the side of the road, since there is no exit close or amenity area close by, and I have to expel everything from my stomach as fast as possible, in the hopes that I can avoid a full on gluten contamination sickness.
Thankfully I did avoid most of it, I am just suffering from body aches and mild brain fog right now.
Needless to say, contaminated gluten free food is why I am giving 1 star for the food. I would give negative stars if possible, because making customers sick is, well, never a good thing. However, service was great, employees were friendly, and everything else was fine.
It made me so happy to have gluten free fried shrimp and french fries. My husband said his clams were great and the non gf blueberry cornbread was delicious.
Service here was amazing! This gluten free bakery has got to be one of the BEST things I have ever had before! The service here is very good and I must say they are really nice employees. I hope to come back to this place over the weekends and even tho it's expensive all it matters is that it's the best in town! Also, thank you for everything you guys do for the brunswick area teen center! I go to the teen center alot and I have some of the granola deserts and I LOVE them alot. I liked the two boston cream donuts and the smores bar I had this morning. Again thank you guys for everything and I can see this business being the best ones in town!
Really really great pizza! We tried two gluten free pizzas, the pepperoni hot honey and the chicken bacon ranch. The crust is really good but the highlight was the chicken bacon ranch. Best I've had ever. The location offers beautiful views and the atmosphere was great.
Delicious vegetarian and gluten free food. Always a challenge to find somewhere that offers both vegetarian and gluten free and Green Elephant delivers. I had the summer rolls, super fresh and light. Then the Thai green curry. Tasted wonderful and also felt healthy. A treat. The chocolate orange mousse cake looked amazing as well. Very nice staff as well. Highly recommend.
We arrived five minutes after one but the person behind the counter said read the sign, very disappointed! People just walked out with a box in there hand.
Yosaku in Portland, ME, is a gem for authentic Japanese cuisine. I've been a patron for the last 8 years, and their Teuchi Soba, a gluten-free noodle made from 100% buckwheat flour, is a must-try. Unlike other soba that often contains wheat, Yosaku's commitment to quality is evident. With new ownership, there's been a subtle shift in taste, yet the restaurant maintains its excellent atmosphere and flavors. Their sushi and sashimi selection is extensive, including weekly specials. If you're lucky, you might even get to try their Otoro. For fish lovers, their Hamachi-Kama (Grilled Yellowtail Collar) is a delight, offered at a very reasonable price but in limited quantities.
Amazing that I haven't posted on Google yet. The Lucky Pigeon is one of my favorite places to spend time on this earth. Not an exaggeration in the least. We don't live close and I always lament that I cannot get there more often. But, it is always wonderful when we do. The owners might be the nicest people on this planet. The beer is phenomenal. The brewer Scott is a genius. I have celiac disease and went a decade without drinking draft beer. I was incredibly emotional the first time I was there. To be able to have anything on the tap list and order a flight was something I never thought I'd ever be able to do again. I still get this anxious and excited feeling every time we enter the tasting room! The best thing: The beer tastes just like really good traditionally brewed beer. I'm told by others who don't have gluten issues that they feel better after drinking it. What a remarkable product! I look forward to my next visit the minute I get home from my last! Check this place out, all! Cans are available in Massachusetts and Vermont, also!
Amazing! The lobster nachos were incredible! Everyone in our group loved their food, and it was fun to sit and watch the boats. Very celiac friendly too! My favorite place so far on our vacation!
I literally ordered 2 stacks of the blueberry gluten free pancakes and neither survived. And these were not skimpy stacks. They were the perfect treat to have on my birthday. Delicious coffee and so many other yummy pastries and gluten free options! I would go here every morning if I lived in Maine! Absolutely incredible!
Atmosphere, staff, and food were all amazing. We are a gluten free family and usually limited menu choices - Not here! There was a wide variety of gluten free items on the menu! We ordered the fish and chips, fish sandwich, braised short rib, cottage pie, and pickled onion rings. All were amazing! The batter for the fried items is always gluten free and items fried in a separate frier.
Food is excellent! Orange Bike gluten free beer is crisp and refreshing. Gabriela’s smile is refreshing and welcoming. She was kind and offered different beer selections. Very accommodating!
Great place for Gluten Free options as their batter is gluten free! Super nice people and great food. They offer indoor seating if needed.
Their fries are some of the best I've ever had.
As someone with celiac, I felt very taken care of at The Bakeshop! I was excited to see gf focaccia -- a rare treat -- and the cashier Corbin went out of his way to check which of the gf baked goods were oat-free for me. The portions are huge, which is also uncommon for gluten free food. If I lived nearby, I would go here all the time!
Let me start by saying I have Crohn's disease which has led to me needing a gluten free diet/lifestyle.
Pizza has been a rocky road ever since going gluten free because nothing has really been worth it. However, this pizza may single-handedly be the best gluten free pizza I've ever had. We helped a friend move into their new home this weekend in Portland and ordered Portland pie co for dinner after we were all done moving. It was the best decision ever.
My boyfriend and his friends are all gluten lovers - they got a garlic crust with cheese, pepperoni, caramelized onions, pineapple, and burnt ends and they all LOVED it. Bonus points for the side of hot honey that they drizzled over the pizza.
The two gluten free friends in the group (me included) got a pizza with half feta, pepperoni, and broccoli and half feta, pepperoni, caramelized onions, and green peppers. I am so sad my boyfriend and I live in Boston, because this would be a constant place we hit up for pizza. The pizza was nothing short of perfect and may just land as the best place for gluten free pizza in my heart.
My boyfriend rates the gluten pizza as a 9.5/10
I would rate the gluten free pizza as a 10/10 easily.
We can't wait to return to Portland for more pizza!
I have been going here since moving to Maine in 2020....not because I am medically gluten free....just because it is great stuff! I try to stop in just for a muffin but usually come away with a lot more! Lots of creative variety, side by side with the old standby--delicious blueberry muffin, in case you're not in the mood for the fun rotating unique flavors. I am not telling my favorites because I want some to be left when I get there! LOL
Nice staff, very talented baker who must work very hard!
Really great find in the heart of Bar Harbor. Super considerate about our gluten allergy and vegan preferences. The smoothies here are to die for. Try the PB J smoothie. Loved all the food and the ambience was terrific. Not crowded even during the holiday long weekend.
Recently, we went to Mason's in Brewer because I have Celiac and they have a lot of GF items and are consistently good. Our waitress was informed of my diet and we ordered a brussel sprout appetizer to begin. She quickly brought out the order and another waitress rushed to our table as we were raising our forks to our mouths. She told us the soy sauce was not gf and that we shouldn't eat it. Her intervention saved us (especially me) from getting sick. We could not thank her enough and our waitress apologized profusely. Within 5 minutes the chef, Jeremy, came out and was so supportive and interested in making things right. This is the first experience in a restaurant where I have felt someone really cared. That is seldom the case in my experiences. We live 40 minutes away on the coast, but it's worth every mile, every gallon of gas to eat there. You guys are amazing and I so wish you'd open a place on the Blue Hill Peninsula; there's nothing that compares. God bless Jeremy and thanks to you all.
Really nice casual lunch! We ate outside and looked out at the water. I got a lobster roll with old bay fries (delicious!) and my partner enjoyed the fish and chips. All their fried items are gluten free which was super exciting for my partner! Not sure it would work for someone with celiac’s but it was perfect for us.
Delightful experience! I stopped here last year when traveling and made Sticky Sweet my first stop back in Portland this summer. Every flavor is delicious and owners are lovely. 100% Gluten Free.
Wild Willy’s Burgers in York, Maine is a must try whenever you are up in this area. The menu is wonderful comfort food and incredibly fresh. With gluten free options, this restaurant is much more inviting than many other places. From March until early November, this is definitely one of our favorite restaurants every time we come up to York, Maine. Enjoy, Robert.
This is our "go to" Chinese restaurant.
Excellent food. Plenty of yummy gluten free options. Great service. Very easy to order.
Zen's has been providing us with an exceptional experience since we came to Portland about 5 years ago.
I'm almost tempted to move to Maine so I can visit this amazing GF cafe more often! What a treasure! The cinnamon roll was incredible. The sausage roll... Amazing. I bought a whole loaf of GF sourdough bread for $13! My husband bought a couple more goodies for later. Oh, also, the Vietnamese coffee was perfection. The prices were incredibly good for such amazing gluten free goodies. DEFINITELY VISIT!!
Not only was the food fresh and the absolute best I've ever had, but their gluten- free selection is elite! My eldest child was able to have a calzone for the first time in their life. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, we had a top tier, relaxing dining experience. Will definitely be back.
The Mt Katahdin was delicious with a good amount of toppings. A family member was ecstatic to get a gluten free pizza crust AND vegan cheese that actually tasted great! It’s really tough to find places that can accommodate wheat & dairy free. The staff were friendly and helpfully packed extra napkins plus hand wipes for eating on the road.
The owners are great, not many places around that you find gluten-free food, especially that’s any good. Food is priced within reason for the amount of food you get.
One of the only places to get healthy GF donuts. Service was amazing and the donuts melted in our mouth. All GF donuts were vegan, made with sweet potato. They had a great collection of different varieties of GF donuts. 100% recommended even for gluten/regular doughnut lovers
