This isn’t entirely The Hound’s fault but, I informed the waiter that I have a gluten intolerance and I ordered a burger on gluten free bread with tater tots. She didn’t inform me that the tater tots weren’t gluten free, I was sick for the next two days because of this. They were good but, I feel like she should’ve let me know that.
I never write reviews but I felt the need to share my experience. It’s so hard finding gluten free restaurants and broken egg is my go to spot for gluten free pancakes. I recommend this place to everyone but after today this is my last time eating here. I’ve been gluten free for years now due to my severe gluten allergy. The service I received today was absolutely horrendous. I was with my family we all sat together. My mom ordered a pineapple mock tail drink. Her throat and lips were irritated after drinking it. That happens sometimes with pineapple it’s a weird fruit. She told the waiter, he got the female manager and the manager was EXTREMELY passive aggressive the moment she walked to our table. My mom shared that she was having a slight reaction to the drink. It was delicious but she was afraid to keep drinking. The manager asked if we should call 911 in a sarcastic tone. My mom said no she would like to have the drink without the pineapple juice. My mom was very polite. The manager says well the drink you ordered doesn’t have pineapple juice. My mom was confused and I interjected… it DOES have pineapple juice that’s the first ingredient. The manager was gaslighting us until I requested the drink menu back and it had pineapple juice. The manager said whoops my bad. Lots of attitude and sarcasm from the waiter. After that situation, 10-15 mins later the food comes out I ordered three gluten free pancakes and I received only two. The waiter comes out walks over and addresses me directly.. he says hey do you want the third pancake and I said yes (of course I want the three gf pancakes I ordered??)… long story short what I received was NOT gluten free pancakes. I had the same reaction I always have when I’ve come into contact with gluten accidentally. Swelling. Almost like edema/inflammation it takes days sometimes weeks for it to go away. The same manager comes I told her what’s happening. She said oh no should I call the ambulance (SARCASTICALLY) I said I would call the ambulance myself I’m not having an anaphylactic reaction. I promise I would not be standing here talking to you if I was dying. But I always get gluten free pancakes this is not gluten free. The texture everything. Four bites in and I KNEW these were not gluten free. I didn’t care to know how or why but it was not gluten free and I was reacting. My parents confirmed they tasted exactly like their pancakes. She claims it is gluten free. Nevertheless, I told her I’m reacting. Not here to debate with you on if the pancakes are gluten free or not I’m actively swelling this never happens here and I just want a refund. I gave her my plate of pancakes back. She argues with me about what symptoms look like for her celiac best friend. All I wanted in that moment was a refund not a passive aggressive, insinuating I’m lying for no reason, nasty attitude. Never eating here again. That manager is bad news. Never had an experience like this before at broken egg.
Amazing customer service . I have celiac disease and the fact that the kitchen takes extra precaution to make sure there is no cross contamination is amazing . Ordered wings not even thinking about cross contamination and the waitress actually told me and warned me of cross contamination. So of course I didn't eat them and just ordered a different type of wings that were gluten free. I watched the girl behind the counter change her gloves multiple times to be cautious with what she was touching. Just amazing experience . The gluten free pizza is amazing and delicious you can't even tell the difference between regular and gluten free . I was so happy to find a place that was cautious and celiac friendly.
First time there. Great salad and bread. We both had a pasta dish and we were very pleased. My wife had a gluten free pasta. Service was very good We will be back
I’m Gluten Free so the Waitress gave me some suggestions on what to order. I wanted a Margarita so She asked if I liked a Had every had a Spicy one so I said I would try it .Great 💜 I Loved it . New to the area and tried this place out. 100% recommend and will be back. I asked first about gluten free option, Kelly was AMAZING. She was so knowledgeable and kind about it. I've never felt this comfortable asking about GF options, anywhere before. The food was amazing, great portion sizes for the price. Atmosphere is so chill and the building is super neat. Can't wait to go back and try other options! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Went to McAlister’s and ordered a choose 2 with salad and a gluten free sandwich and they put croutons on the salad and I asked them to remake it they said they did when I found pieces of crouton on my salad so the lady just picked off the croutons around the corner. Got it remade and the salad looked terrible the lettuce was pink and wilted and mushy. Not a good experience with McAlister’s today.
The service is always friendly and the restaurant is always clean. They have gluten free buns, which are actually pretty good. The kids get an ice cream included in their meal; you take the bag up to redeem it for the ice cream (which is nice because you can ignore that if you don't want ice cream for your kiddo).
My daughter has been raving about Amsterdam since she’s been living down here for almost 10 years now. Every time I call on a Sunday I ask her how her weekend was and usually has to deal with a meal at Amsterdam. Now I could understand why. for a birthday celebration we came here for dinner, and it was not what I thought it was. I thought it was going to be a stuffy uptight restaurant, and it was a complete opposite. Essentially located in a semi residential area on the edge of campus. Upon walking in you’re in the older section of the restaurant, where we were seated. In back is a very nice dining area and also have an outdoor eating area. , where we were seated. As an appetizer, we ordered the grilled brussels sprouts and the calamari. The calamari was very good, with a Red sauce that was almost like a sweet-and-sour red sauce. Not your traditional marinara red sauce. It was very good and very tasty. The grilled brussels sprouts were delicious. Brussels sprouts were bedded over a Gorgonzola cheese, I think. I’m not a big cheese person, therefore, I try to avoid the cheese on it, but the brussels sprouts were still very good.
As an entrée, I had the shrimp and grits, which was delicious and also had some of my daughter’s chicken mac & cheese. Which was very good. The mac & cheese had collard greens in it. Watch was exceptional. The flavoring was spot on. Another entrée was the salmon with mashed potatoes, which is a gluten-free. The person who had that and truly enjoyed it, and said the same was cooked perfectly.
We talked about dessert, but we didn’t see anything that was too interesting, therefore we decided not to get any.
Highly suggest reservations on weekends especially on game days and parent evolved weekends. Found parking literally right in front so it was not an issue, but it can’t be an issue I think. There is a lot behind Amsterdam, but it is unknown if you could park there or not no is it posted if you can or not, but there’s a lot of towing signs.
If you’re In Auburn and want a Auburn traditional restaurant, highly suggest Amsterdam
We are glad that we stumbled onto this wonderful restaurant. My wife, who is gluten intolerant, finds items that she can eat. The food is excellent and we had a Great waitress.
Kenny is amazing. I have celiac disease. He was so kind, helpful, and accommodating. The meal was delicious and gluten-free. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was excellent. My wife, who has a gluten allergy, had ordered the gluten-free bread and fries. The manager caught the order and came to the table to let her know that the fries were not gluten-free.
Great spot for quick, easy, and delicious “fast Tex-Mex” style food. Prices are fair, portions are good, and food is consistent tasty. They also clearly label vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten friendly (cross contact can occur) options on the menu which is always appreciated.
