This place has such a cute New England vibe. The staff was happy and friendly, the view is great, and the food was just okay but basically everything could be made gluten free which is a huge plus for me. I would definitely frequent this spot if I lived in the area.
Lauren was fantastic! Party of 25, she and Kiki handled everything without a sweat. So understanding, very accommodating, answered every question without hesitation. Food was fantastic, and as someone with celiac disease they took food allergies very seriously and were very knowledgeable with what to he cautious of. I will be coming back and asking for Lauren every time.
We chose the Black Cow for an engagement celebration and the whole experience was great. I called ahead of time and was able to request a table in a more private area of the restaurant to decorate and bring a special cake. The whole team was incredibly attentive and helpful to making our surprise happen! The manager, I believe his name was Mike, consistently checked in with us and helped us get our table on time. Gina was our waitress and she was awesome!! Highly recommend the bang bang shrimp and calamari. Also, great for a member of our party that was celiac. Thank you, Black Cow team!

I absolutely loved my dinner at Loretta’s Restaurant in downtown Newburyport! The location is convenient, with a large parking lot nearby and plenty of street parking available. Despite the restaurant being very busy, they quickly set up additional tables to accommodate guests, which was impressive.
The staff was exceptional—super fast, attentive, and highly professional, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely incredible, with bold flavors and generous portion sizes. I especially appreciated that they clearly label gluten-free options on the menu, making it easy for those with dietary restrictions to find something delicious.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Loretta’s. The warm atmosphere, outstanding service, and phenomenal food make it a must-visit spot in Newburyport. I highly recommend it!
Excellent for Large Groups!
We came here for a team dinner, 20 of us. Appetizers that were ordered by our manager, were on the table before everyone's entree order was even taken.
Appetizers were delicious. And then the entrees all come out at the EXACT SAME TIME (even the gluten-free).
There were 3 Gluten-Free Pasta Options: Ziti, Spaghetti, or Cheese Ravioli (yes, you read that correctly).
The desserts were phenomenal (I had the creme brule.)
All in all, Giuseppe's was delicious, personable, and hospitable. We all absolutely enjoyed.
LOOVVEE this place! Everyone is friendly. They have the really good breakfast sandwiches 🥪, the best chai AND they good gluten-free options...GF bread & a separate GF bakery case.
My favorite spot in town! Whether you are looking for great coffee or tea, amazing house made pastries (muffins, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, teacakes, cookies, and so much more), breakfast sandwiches, or just a smile.. Olive's has it!
I always leave there in a good mood- the staff is friendly & very quick. Efficient & consistent operations means it's always a 5 star visit!
You can also get gluten free & vegan options without compromising any quality (the gluten free chocolate chip cookies are maybe event better than the original)! From healthy snacks to an indulgent treat.. Olive's is the place to go!
*Pro tip- they do sell out of certain items on weekends so head in early if you are craving something specific!
I would have loved to leave a 5-star review—our server was fantastic: warm, attentive, and clearly cared about our experience. The appetizers were also genuinely delicious. However, the way this restaurant handled a gluten allergy specifically celiac disease was deeply disappointing.
We informed the host about the allergy when we arrived, expecting it to be clearly communicated to the kitchen. Despite that, the wrong entrée—one that was not gluten-free was served to my friend with celiac. Unfortunately, they took a bite before we realized the mistake. Our server quickly caught it, removed the dish, and brought the correct one, and we appreciated their fast response.
What was unacceptable was how the manager handled the situation. She came over and simply kept asking, "Is she okay?" even after we explained that this wasn’t a mild intolerance, but a medical condition that requires strict avoidance of gluten. There was no real apology, no acknowledgment of the seriousness of the mistake, and no meaningful follow-up after that brief interaction.
Yes, the restaurant was busy but it’s still an allergy. Celiac disease isn’t something that can be brushed off with a quick “are you okay?” It requires care, attention, and clear communication from both the kitchen and the management.
At a restaurant of this caliber, I expected far better. The manager’s dismissive approach left a bad taste, and unfortunately, it overshadowed what should have been a great dining experience.
I had a great experience with Stone crust pizza!
I have been ordering regular pizza for my children regularly but not knowing that they also offer gluten free pizza!
The gluten free truffle-mushrooms pizza was incredibly delicious! I ordered it two nights in a row! You must try it!
The delivery guy Adam was very polite!
I highly recommend this place!
Food was really good as was the service. We were seated on the first floor which was a lot quieter than the second floor where we sat last time. Good for gluten free.
I just ordered a Gluten Free steak and cheese on a wrap. It was actually for my girlfriend. I wrote in comment section. Gf sub roll. Bread Ect. If available please. It came on a wrap. She said it was really good just a little small for the price. I went in and paid for it. It was around $17.45. I gave a $20. Got back 2 dollar bills and change. Then i grabbed a coke a cola 20 oz bottle. That was $3.65 yup. $3.65 I almost put it back. I had to pull out a dollar bill with the 2 She gave back to me and my change. I did order it around 1:40 pm online said be ready at 1:55. I got there around 1:55. It still wasn't on the grill. I stood out front for maybe 8 to 10 mins. It wasn't busy at all. Maybe 8 total people inside. I'm give all 5 star because I didn't eat there. It's downtown Newburyport. It's really nice down there. Alot of people walking around thats 5 stars for me standing outside for atmosphere. Service I guess 5 stars. The girl did move her muffin she was eating when I went up to the counter. We all have to eat. Food 5 stars. She did say it was very good. Just a little small. It was about the size of a hotdog bun. For a big wrap. I get it. Food it's expensive right now. Thanks. I'd go back and sit down and eat. Give you my full review. Thank you.
If you want tasty food, go here! Love the vegan and gluten free options. Plus the atmosphere is great. Don't expect great quality at fast food prices, whether it's here or other small businesses & restaurants. Such a unique place, it's harder and harder to find foodspots that focus on homemade and gourmet food but Joppa does a good job.
Everything was great! All of the food and drinks were delicious and fresh. Our server Wyatt was very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Good gluten free options as well!
Disappointing. Presentation was beautiful, but the food was super bland and not exciting. Chose this restaurant for gluten free options, and they were very open in saying that cross contamination was a thing so we couldn’t really order much for our celiac friend. They shouldn’t have gf on their menu if they can’t take care of their guests. The waitress never introduced herself, so we didn’t know her name, got visibly annoyed when we asked for actual menus, and was more annoyed when our friend didn’t order anything other than soup because she couldn’t trust the gf options. Overall, disappointing.
Great mocktails and food! The Joy Nest is adorable and fashionable - fabulous atmosphere to get a bit dressed up and enjoy. While limited in gluten free options, what they had was delicious. The fresh rolls were good - a bit forward with cilantro and could have used a bit more chicken, but definitely fresh as their name describes and the sauce is addicting. Gf drunken noodles (fat noodles) with steak so so good. Orchard oriole was my favorite mocktail but they had a great selection that had me feeling included in fancy drinkin :-)
I recently had lunch at a newly renovated Mexican restaurant, and I must say, they did a beautiful job with the renovation, changing the furniture and creating a welcoming atmosphere. The food was fantastic, with fresh and tasty options that were reasonably priced. I was especially impressed by the variety of gluten-free options available. The service was also fantastic, with attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. Additionally, there was plenty of parking space available, which was a bonus. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for delicious Mexican cuisine in a welcoming environment.
Hands down best creme brulee I've had since visiting Montreal. Wait staff very knowledgeable about gluten free items on the menu. Hostess remembered my name, pronouncing it correctly, throughout the evening. Shrimp and chorizo was bold and savory without too much heat. Polenta was delicious. Highly recommend.
The menu is interesting snd delicious. Gluten free options(even fries!) Glass of wine for $8.00! Wait staff is down to earth and friendly. We are coming back.
I like this place but I wish they took celiac disease more seriously. For the second time I ordered a gluten free meal requesting soft tofu and after waiting an hour the tofu was fried and they don’t have a separate frier so clearly it was a gluten-filled dish for over $15. Be careful if you have a food allergy and the restaurant is busy. Also any item fried on the “gluten free menu” is not gluten free.
