This is my third time coming here. I absolutely love the atmosphere and the food is good. I am really glad to see somewhere that offers so many gluten free options. All the plants and surrounding decorations are so pretty.
I do have one complaint though that really ruins the whole experience for me and the reason our family probably won’t go back. Every single time I have come to this cafe I have experienced the man who cooks things (I think this is the owner?) is quite rude and hasn’t been friendly. My daughter commented the same thing as well. Today was a special day for my daughter and I and we are both gluten free so we chose this cafe to take our little family to for breakfast. We were met with irritation that we had 6 people in our party. He rolled his eyes and grunted like it was a huge inconvenience. We tried coming as soon as they opened hoping to not cause tension because I know it’s small. Already feeling unwelcomed, I tried to find a table and was snapped at by him and told to go to the back. Even my husband was surprised at the rudeness and irritation from this man. This is the third time we have been met with a less than friendly attitude from him. Kind of put a downer on the whole breakfast and special day. When we got home even my son said something about the guys rudeness. Such a bummer because this cafe would be one of our favorites but we won’t be back :(
Ribs were great. This is a fast casual franchise based bbq rib location - the gluten free gf menu is right up front.
The night I went they were sold out of smoked chicken - they only had chopped chicken, which is not my thing.
Baked beans were good, thick, not too sweet. Coleslaw was also good - sweet of course since it’s based in the South, not too sweet.
Ribs were good. Crunchy, good bark. They came covered in sauce - would’ve preferred dry.
No brisket. They did offer burgers - no gf buns. Okay value for money - $30 for a half rack of ribs.
Place was totally empty at 7 pm on a Sunday.
Wonderful fresh food and superior service! For those of you that need to eat gluten and dairy free, this is the place!! Vegetarian and meat choices as well. Jay was so helpful in helping me choose my first visit. You won’t be disappointed!
Excellent service and food. We were there with a party of 8. They were able to seat us promptly. Most everyone ordered something different. Everyone enjoyed their food. It well prepared and delicious.
I have a Gluten allergy. They have some GF menu items and made note of that for the kitchen.
Really good food and I love the gluten free accommodations! The restaurant is very clean and very well maintained. The only issue we had was it was HOT inside. Everything else about our visit was great and I will be back next time I am in town!
Our server was extremely helpful with finding me the perfect meal after my recent diagnosis of celiac disease. Usually omelets are OK but your menu states that pancake batter is added to yours. The veggie omelet does not and it was delicious!
Gluten free pizza is delicious! If you get a chance to sit at the bar, Megan is the best! You know you have a fabulous bar tender, when she brings your Diet Coke with lemons over as soon as she sees you!
The pros: the server was very nice, food came out promptly
The cons: they offer a gluten free menu but their staff isn’t well educated so be careful! They told me all sushi rolls were GF. I asked if the ones that have tempura in them are GF: no. I asked if the teriyaki sauce used in some is GF: no. I specifically asked the server to make down that I have a gluten allergy for the chef (I end up in the ER vomiting for hours if there is an accident). She said she would but low and behold, a roll with crab used imitation. I asked them to check and see if it had any wheat in it and it did. The chef had to look at the package so I guess he didn’t know either 🤷♀️ Surely, that would have been a catastrophe. We would have normally spoken up to management because it’s a big deal but the server did feel bad and was very sweet and attentive otherwise. A suggestion for the establishment would be to get management involved with any allergies or they’re going to end up on the ugly side of someone getting very sick (or don’t offer a gluten free menu!).
I don’t think we will be back because the food was … just okay and not worth the song and dance of trying to make sure something is gluten free.
The food was fantastic! I have celiac disease, which means eating out can be difficult at best. I was thrilled to see that you offered gluten-free options. Our waitress was knowledgeable and considerate of my needs. The fact I could safely have fries made my experience one of the highlights of my vacation!
Just had a great experience here! The food was delicious - very accommodating for Gluten free individuals - had a meatball sub over lettuce! I’ll be back Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My wife and i have recently started touring the restaurants of Aiken and last night our journey took us for the first time to Salty Tomatoes on Laurens St. We were not disappointed! We sat at the bar and admired the fact the owner took pride in preserving and highlighting the old brick building walls and structure that Aiken is famous for. Simple but warm and welcoming. We were promptly greeted with a big smile by Halsey(?) the bartender. My wife was looking for a light, refreshing cocktail. She took Halsey's recommendation and was delighted with her choice. I had a cider. We decided (before entering the premises) that we would have an app and salad and then continue on to anther restaurant on our list. We decided on the Green Tomatoes and a Roasted Beet/Butternut salad. The presentation on both dishes was excellent. The tomatoes were fresh and the fry was crisp. The remoulade was delicious and had just the right heat to offset the saltiness of the tomato seasoning. The salad was a very large portion (perfect for the 2 of us to split) and had all the right elements (candied pecans, fresh goat cheese, fresh mixed greens and a house made dressing I can't recall the name of but was a perfect compliment). My wife is a big fan of arugula, which was not one of the ingredients in the salad. She offered constructive feedback to the owner (who we were fortunate to meet) who was very welcoming of our feedback and promised us that when we come back to please ask for any special requests and they would be happy to accommodate if they could (arugula is a component in one of their flatbread dishes).
We wish we had time for Dessert! Not only were they all fresh made by the owner (an award winning pastry chef) but several of the fresh offerings were gluten free which is rarely offered and important to our diets!
We will most certainly be back for dinner and dessert in the near future!
Great food and a nice upscale atmosphere that avoids being stuffy. We ate inside but it looked like they had a large patio through the back as well that is probably gorgeous in the spring.
Making reservations was a bit of a hassle which is why this wasn’t a 5 star review. Having to leave a voicemail and wait for a call back for a seating time is very unusual.
The scallop appetizer was excellent, My lamb was perfectly cooked and out waitress Annabelle was pleasant, attentive and very knowledgeable about what was gluten free or able to be made gluten free for me on the menu. Absolutely will be back the next time I am in aiken.
I came in an asked if they would make my order special. (Gluten Free) I supplied the soy sauce. And they were kind enough to do it and it tasted amazing!
