The food was delicious. Almost everything on the menu could be made gluten free. Staff well aware of Celiac Disease. Incredibly friendly staff and prices were very reasonable
I have Celiac and this place has an incredible number of options for gluten free. And so so delicious. Service was friendly and welcoming. My kids loved it as well
Best Gluten Free Pizza in Canada! I've been to nearly every province in Canada and this was by far the most unique pizza, good size for GF, bbq sauce base, chicken with hot honey sauce! Great atmosphere, friendly service.
Mitch was our server and he was amazing! Great recommendations and just an all around nice guy.
Food here is amazing. If you’re gluten free they have one of the best gluten free crusts around.
Def come here. Prices are more than fair.
Everything is perfect there ! As I have no home, finding a place that feels welcoming and where I can use a good wifi is precious and I felt good working all day there, for few days actually. People that work there are awesome, pretty good coffee/chai latte/caramel macchiato and they also had gluten-free option (only the bread for sandwiches but they have plenty of choice and the one I had was delicious). I recommend 100%
Got some takeout, and staff were so helpful with helping to choose celiac-friendly options! Not only was the food great, but pricing was very reasonable. Would 100% eat there again.
My partner and I ate here once during our stay. I am celiac and need gluten free options which they had on the menu!!! Great experience and so lucky to find GF options even in a small town. We will be back!
Not my first time here, group definitely enjoyed our meals! Delicious seafood chowder (I ordered the smaller size—generous!), and tried my first cod au gratin with tasty homemade fries. My partner eats gluten-free on account of celiac and very much enjoyed their GF fish and chips. Very friendly service, and a delightful gift shop upstairs!
I go here everytime I'm in town, which is a couple times a month for work, and I've never had a bad drink here. There's a huge variety of drinks hot and cold and they always have interesting seasonal drinks as well. I always get a sandwich with a gluten free bun when I'm here, my favourites are the pesto chicken and the cran-apple chicken sandwiches, the gluten free bun is very good, and doesn't fall apart like other gf breads tend to.
The Irish Loop Coffee House has a surprisingly large food menu with reasonably priced and tasty items. We went there for coffee and tea, but I also had an order of home fries. The fries were really great!
There are options for those who are gluten free and vegetarian. I didn't see any vegan only dishes, but I think they'd be able to accommodate people looking for a plant-based dish.
The service was quick and friendly, which is always appreciated. The atmosphere and decor is retro diner themed, which was a cool surprise.
I definitely recommend The Irish Loop Coffee House when driving route 10 through the area.
Incredible Incredible Incredible. I was here with my mom and husband. They loved their meal. I am Cieliac and I looooooved my meal. Some of the best gluten free food I've ever had. Thank you again!!
Absolutely fantastic cafe. Gorgeous espresso beverages with alternative milks available. Gluten free friendly options available for all of the sandwiches and other options. Creative choices and interesting flavours.
They were chock full of customers when we arrived at 1:15 PM yet still found what might have been the last table available for us. I would suggest they might have been a bit understaffed for the lunch rush, but were definitely trying very hard to keep up. I hope management sees this review. Your waitstaff needed more help today, but they did fantastic under the circumstances.
Desserts were beautiful. Would love to have had a gluten free cheesecake option. Enjoyed the GF peanut butter cup.
Highly recommend!!
Although not advertised, and probably tough to accomodate on a busier night, the staff worked with me to meet my dietary needs! I appreciate their hard work. If you are gluten free or have other food allergies, would recommend giving it a try. Pretty hipster for the locale, but typical new age brew pub feel.
I managed to get pan fried cod and it was fantastic!
Friendly and helpful.
The fish and chips is gluten free and nut free. And the cod was very fresh. The fries are awesome.
They have ice cream, soft and hard. Chocolates that are peanut and, Gluten free.
After visiting Tablelands, this restaurant was a treat, they have a patio and the restaurant is on the water.
Sweet little cafe on a beautiful Oceanside drive. Lots of seating and an outdoor table option on a fine day. The menu has a good selection of appetizers, salads, burgers & wraps. The server said that a lot of the menu can be made gluten-free. We had the squid rings and they were some of the best I have tried around NL - the batter is light with a salty flavouring. The Spinach dip was meal size & the French fries delicious. The fried chicken had a different kind of coating, reminded me of shake and bake crumbs from years ago. Tasty just not a crunchy batter. Really good portion sizes. The bountiful cheesecake selection will bring me back in an instant. Oh, and don’t leave without a Homemade Flakey for later. A great spot that really is worth the drive.
This was such a memorable spot for us. The atmosphere was unlike any other. It was so charming inside especially at dinner time sunset on the water. There was live music from 6-8, really lovely. Enjoyed a good, hearty meal - great veggie and gluten free menu too! Favourites were the veggie lasagna, salmon dinner, and steamed pudding (to die for!). Our server Ashley was so awesome and lovely, remembered us from the night before. The waitresses really keep this place afloat, they manage a busy, bustling environment with grace and ease. Will be back next visit!
The staff were friendly and helpful.....4 of us were gluten free and our waiter (of 16 years their) was great....he took super care we had gluten free delicious food!
We love going to Jack Astor's. There's something for everyone from our picky eater, to our vegetarian to our celiac. Candace is the best but I might be biased!
I have recently been diagnosed with celiac disease and Smuggler’s Cove was the first place I’d gone. The restaurant was incredibly well versed, and catered to my needs, even though we dined later in the evening, at a time when the menu options were limited. They went above and beyond to make sure I had a lovely experience.
As an added bonus, we spent the night in one of the bunkhouses on sight. It was so cozy and relaxing and clean and tidy!
Highly recommend!
Always a wonderful place to eat and celebrate special occasions with family and friends. The food was delicious as always. The staff were exceptional! Being the mother of a child with a tree nut allergy it is scary going to some restaurants that either are unaware or nonchalant about allergies. The chef took time to speak to us about the various dishes and he checked on the waffle batter which is a mix that was not safe. Then dessert time another lovely lady took well care of my daughter with tree nut allergy and my aunt with Celiac- gluten allergy. They were very accommodating. Highly recommend and the new owner is sweet! It was also beautifully decorated for Christmas!
Lovely restaurant with a delicious gluten-free burger (the Amelia burger, with a GF bun) and the best bacon-wrapped scallops (also gluten free) I've ever had. The server (Kim) was very helpful and seemed knowledgeable about celiac and concerns about the potential risk of cross-contamination with wheat flour. Strongly recommended! 👍👍🍔 🤤
100% the best food on this island!! The only issue I have is deciding what I want! I mean.. I love the OG burger, but then there's a limited special on! Screw it and order it all! Never have I had anything so good!. As a added bonus.. a dedicated fryer and gluten-free available! A rare thing indeed. Always above and beyond! Love you guys.
Definitely not the experience we were expecting. It has been awhile since we were at Saltwater - we were last there in 2013 at the old location and it was excellent. It was a very different experience this time.
Service was extremely slow, especially given that there were only a few other tables that were occupied. Just over an hour before we got the one appetizer that we shared between 2 of us. Our mains left a lot to be desired. The cod was very undercooked and the salmon was just “fine”. This was after witnessing multiple dishes going to wrong tables over and over, and then when ours finally arrived the server announced our gluten free salmon dish (we are not gluten free).
The whole evening felt very chaotic and disorganized even though it did not seem busy at all.
Our server was very kind and apologetic, she did it take the cod off of our bill.
Overall, it was very disappointing and hopefully just a very “off” night for the staff/restaurant.
A friend and I stayed in the rooms upstairs, and after a long day of traveling from Vancouver, decided to head down to the bar after dropping stuff off in our room.
I'm so glad we did!
I had potato skins and the chicken wings. They were very tasty, and Gluten-free! I also had a fair amount of wine. :D
The man behind the bar that night was attentive and kind (I think he even laughed at one of my jokes= very kind). As he grew up in the area, he also had a lot of fantastic recommendations.
Some words about Blair: "Not only is Blair really smart, but he's also super kind and generous. I've heard him referred to as 'saintly' and I wouldn't argue."
I would suggest trying whatever drink/cocktail special they have when you're there. They're concoction wizards!
For a few other nights, we had Ian serving us. He was also kind and attentive, and withstood friendly roasting quite well. I looked forward to our evenings downstairs at Magnum & Steins. Other staff members, and especially the manager, Kelly, really made us feel like family. It was so lovely, and they're a major part of why I can't wait to head back to St. John's. I could probably write a novel, but I'll settle for this short story. ❤️
Very cute cafe with a surprisingly large selection of ways to get your coffee. A healthy menu of selections baked goods, including vegan and gluten-free options.
The owner is very friendly. Chatting with him makes you feel like you’ve known him for years. Newfoundland hospitality at its finest, and definitely worth a stop!
A unique place with lots to offer - excellent service and fresh fish and seafood with a view. Even better - they have a gluten free menu, and their wine pours are at a great price point and are topped off nicely! Nothing fancy - just good Newfoundland grub.
