(Celiacs Beware) They have a a lot of gluten free items on the menu but only some of there items are gluten free for example it will say there Empanadas are gluten free but there actually not since they use the same fryer for their non gluten free items. Their arepas though are truly gluten free since they don't fry the bread but a lot of their so called gluten free items are not safe for celiacs so please do ask the waiter and don't just look at the menu and be like wow all gluten free cause its really not. Food was good tho
Went with a my girlfriend and a few friends, we found the food very tasty. We had the meat platter and a few other things my Ethiopian friend suggested. Pro tip: order the injera gluten free. Will be back for the food and to experience the coffee ceremony!
I really don't want to leave this review but I would like to share my experience.
I usually order the vegetarian platter for 2 and I have a gluten allergy so I've always ordered gluten free injera.
The last 2 times I have gone and ordered the same platter with gluten free injera, I have felt sick and developed rashes all over my body. On December 10th, I told the waitress 2 times and made sure she understood that I am ordering gluten free because of an allergy. Then when our meal arrived I asked if this is gluten free. The next day I developed a rash. Prior to this time in the summer I called the restaurant because I was feeling ill after having the meal. They assured me that it was gluten free. I dont know if there is a language barrier or what is going on. Their menu clearly states that they sell gluten free injera.
The food here is really delicious but I cant trust that they take my allergy serious. Its a shame because id eat here regularly. A few months back I also saw a tiny mouse running under the tables, I hope that has been resolved.
I'd advise the staff to take these allergies seriously.
AMAZING food & almost everything is available in a Gluten Free option! This is HUGE! The staff is super sweet and they are really understanding about food restrictions. So happy I found this restaurant.
We ordered the veggie platter for 2 with gluten free injera. It had a nice variety of dishes, all of them tasting delicious, and portioned so that we could share the platter without getting into each other's way. It was the best meal I've had in ages
No photos were taken because the food was shamelessly devoured by all of us!
The menu is spectacular. We shared most of the appetizers, the carrots were the unanimous standout. The sauce with the scallops and mushrooms were saved to enjoy with our steak frites, porkchops and char. Do not let anything go to waste! More bread with that heavenly whipped butter was ordered. Our table was continuously filled with exceptionally well executed and intentioned dishes.
We had the Basque cheesecake and the chocolate dessert, both celiac friendly and ordered another Basque cheesecake again because it is that good. The texture is so velvety and delicate.
The menu accommodated our celiac friend and we were all so glad that she was able to enjoy almost everything with very minimal substitutions.
Their beverages stood their own with everything we had. Cocktails, wine, amaro and alcohol free.
The service was so warm and friendly, knowledgeable and thorough. Genuine. Hard to find it on that level.
It’s a great room to be in! We were all admiring the décor. You’re lucky to have had every plate returned. 😂
Being in the restaurant industry, it’s hard to find time to enjoy other great restaurants like The Wood Owl. We had all been wanting to come for so long. We were so excited to come tonight to celebrate our Chef’s birthday and they made it so memorable. The Michelin recommendation is well deserved. I’m gushing because it’s rare to have an experience like this. The hard work is much appreciated and so worth the wait. Will come and visit again hopefully sooner than later. Thank you so much to you all for making a special occasion that much more special.
Great place.
Had the platter with Beef strips.
All tasted great and they even had Gluten free ingera (made from Teff flour).
Not spicy, could have been a little more bit.
The meat strips had great taste but were really not a good cut of meet. Tons of fat and tendons because some prices I couldn’t even tear apart.
The coffee tastes good and it was strong.
Overall good place. It’s small but cozy.
Crazy Burger is a burger and bar spot that opened on the Danforth in March 2023. Run by a lovely couple, this place offers over-the-top burgers and sandwiches, and the alcohol to go with it.
Stopped by and grabbed the Monster Mushroom combo. The mushroom burger was good - tasty beef patty, pretty good size and quality, and my favourite part was how generous the mushrooms, cheese and bbq sauce were on the burger. The side fire fries were also good - crispy without being overly fried, tasty enough so you didn't need to lather it in anything.
Place itself is small-ish but well laid out so doesn't feel cramped. There are two wide-screen TVs so you can watch a lot of sports here. Service is efficient and the owners (husband and wife team) are friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back to try their other offerings.
ps: Plant-based burgers are available, and they will also have gluten-free buns soon.
I tucked in here on a hot day and it was nice and cool inside (AC). Their peach iced tea was very refreshing, served by a young lady with a big smile. They have gluten free baked items on the menu though sold out today. I'll be back again.
