The Broadway Tearooms & Bakery is a charming and historic café located at 31 Broadway, Reefton, serving locals and visitors since around 1874. This heritage establishment offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a casual coffee break while exploring the town.
The menu features a full range of hot and cold meals, including hearty breakfasts, gourmet pies, fresh bread and buns baked daily. They also cater well to dietary needs, offering vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The coffee is barista quality, which is a highlight for us. We also ordered the fish & chips with salad (which I found a bit oily), cheesy broccoli soup (yummy) and mushroom on egg bene (the hash brown was a pleasant surprise).
The café is housed in a beautifully restored wooden building dating back to 1875, blending historic charm with modern comforts. Seating includes both indoor space for about 50 guests and outdoor tables in a sunny courtyard, making it a comfortable spot year-round.

Staff are friendly and efficient, contributing to a welcoming experience. The Broadway Tearooms & Bakery is a popular stop for travelers passing through Reefton as well as a beloved local institution.
Fun Fact - the place was up for sales when we were there.
The most DELICIOUS sandwich I’ve ever had. I had the fish sandwich and it was so good. The staff were so lovely and I can’t believe how quickly they served our entire tour group. Also do gluten free which was great for my coeliac partner. His sandwich almost looked better than mine!
very tasty vegan crêpes! would be nice if we didn't have to pay extra for dairy/gluten free. lady was lovely and very understanding. Highly recommended!
After driving for many hours with many more to go, I optimistically walked into the Hard Antler knowing this would be my last opportunity for a meal before Franz Joseph. The ambiance was on point for a local favorite and prob the best option in many cases. I enjoyed the bikers drinking with the 75 year old man with a white He-Man haircut and corduroys I assume he's owned since the 70s.
Being glutarded (gluten-intolerant), I opted for something not fried from the menu, the venison Nachos sounded promising. After a reasonable wait, The server came with a monstrous pile of food covered in what I would call a glacial amount of sour cream, like a whole normal sized tub emptied out. I assume now it was to hide the shame of what it covered: Tortilla chips, covered in cheese and a meat slurry of sorts coated in Thai sweet chili sauce. I pushed the sour glacier to the side to get at the guts of it, and was woefully disappointed that the meat slurry was maybe just north of cat-food with maybe a hint of taco seasoning. The sweet chili sauce did nothing to help or hide the flavors, more confused it's ethnic identity even more. I ate half of it, because I knew it would be my last meal of the day, and prayed I wouldn't throw up or poop my pants on the 4 hour drive that awaited me.
This is all my fault, I should have ordered something within their wheelhouse like a burger or whitebait fritter. They are prob very good.
TL:DR, Don't order the nachos, take it off the menu.
Very cozy place.
I went there for dinner 2-3 times and felt really comfortable. Extremely delicious dishes and the freshly tapped beers are a dream. Great: There are some vegan and gluten-free dishes that are well marked on the menu.
Great food and great location. Small play area across a quiet road visible from the restaurant. Many gluten-free options that are coeliac safe. A couple of the staff are coeliac so they understand cross contamination.
Wonderful service, great selection of food, including gluten free options, I have to add they make the BEST Eggs Benedict I have ever had. Highly recommend.
It was so lovely to sit outside and gaze at the surroundings while we dined. Even though this was a semi-enclosed area, I was eaten alive by sandflies, so bare this in mind if you're not covered in deet.
We came on a weekday, and we didn't require a reservation. Our waitress was good, and my husband had great fish and chips. My only criticism would be that the fish chowder had a very watery consistency. I generally prefer a thick chowder, however the flavour was still there and I think this was because it is gluten free? I'd definitely recommend the sticky toffee pudding! A very large portion for the price and it went down a treat - thanks! We would return
Had dinner at the Woodstock. With 2 in the group suffering from coeliac disease, the menu was a vertable wonderland of choices. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
Recommend X 10
Every time we give stumpers another chance, they disappoint. Staff are rude, grumpy. Kitchen hours are weird. We ordered the gluten free ribs, celiac, they arrived with beer battered chips… which aren’t gluten free/celiac friendly. This place needs new owners! T
Don't know what all the negative reviews are about but this place is awesome. Food came quick, really really good lunch, and hospitality from the bar was great.. coeliacs can eat here, I'm glad we stopped :)
Excellent and quick service at Full of Beans. Both the menu and cabinet food options were great. Even better were options for gluten free and dairy free which meant we could all eat in one place
Even though we arrived just before closing the very friendly staff were happy to accommodate us. Lots of choice of yummy food including some gluten free for me. Definitely recommended :)
Very cute café!! Good food (vegan and gluten-free options) and coffee, and lots of local products. Indoor and covered outdoor seating. Plenty of street parking.
Amazing!!
We had an excellent meal such good value and generous portions!
I was very impressed as my meal was gluten free also!
Friendly and efficient staff.
We could not fault this place and highly recommend a visit if you’re staying in Greymouth.
Cafe Neve, located on Main Road in Fox Glacier village, is a cozy and friendly café offering a wide variety of meals and drinks. The menu includes coffee, pies, pasta, pizza, burgers, salads, and a range of beverages.
The café has a welcoming atmosphere and friendly service. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a comfortable spot to relax whether you’re exploring the stunning Fox Glacier area or just passing through, like we were.
The coffee is excellent, and the menu caters well to different tastes with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. We ordered a large pizza to share among the three of us, and it was more than enough. The ingredients were fresh, and the portions generous.
The café wasn’t busy when we visited, and our service was prompt. However, I was surprised by the small surcharge on card payments. Otherwise, the overall experience was positive, and we appreciated the cozy ambiance and quality food.
We had a lovely meal tonight having popped in without a reservation on the basis of the reviews on Google. We shared the meatballs to start, I had the seafood chowder and my husband the chicken schnitzel. All of them were very tasty, but it would have been nice if they had done something to the gluten free bread, ie turned it into garlic bread rather than serving dry toast. Service was polite and efficient. The decor felt dated and lacked character but I would still recommend.
Great food, even as a gluten free vegetarian they catered very well on a couple of occasions. My partner had ribs and fish and chips and raved about how tasty it was. Beautiful set up, with wooden Canadian style inside with a fireplace and pool table and multiple tvs. Great service each time. Highly recommend.
Stopped off for lunch. Have to say we weren't quite sure what we thought as we were shown into the dinning room as it was a bit higgledy-piggledy. However the owner was very welcoming and when the food arrived it was fantastic. Gluten free wasn't a problem and my husband thought it was one of the best pizzas he's had. Definitely recommend as a lunch stop - a real taste of West Coast hospitality.
Excellent bar offering a few dishes for well-prepared breakfasts and lunches.
There are vegetarian and gluten free variants
The restaurant has been famous since 1957 for its homemade pancake recipe
