I’ve been ordering from Mandy’s for 7.5 years, since being diagnosed with celiac. Things have been wonky since ownership changed, but on 12/28/24 I called at 5:15pm and was told they were out of gluten free pizza shells for the evening. Sold out at 5pm on a Saturday? So I ordered a gf turkey hoagie, to which I was told that the owner had taken this item off the menu! What?? I was flabbergasted! This is not an unconventional item, it’s a turkey hoagie!
I continued my order of traditional food for the rest of my family, a pizza and two hoagies, and waited 55 minutes for them, even when the the girl answering phones was telling people 35 minutes(I know this because I stood in the restaurant for 20 mins waiting for my 3 items, since I arrived at the 35 minute mark.)
It was very disappointing, and I hope that the restaurant can stay true to the original owners dream of food for those of us will allergies and restrictions.
I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone with allergies. My best friend has severe gluten and mushroom allergies, so we were excited to try this fully gluten-free spot. We informed the waitress about her allergies, but it became clear they were not taken seriously. After eating tortilla chips, we were later told the fryer was used for mushrooms—a major cross-contamination issue.
The situation escalated as we anxiously waited to see if an epi-pen or ambulance was necessary. The waitress apologized, but the manager hovered awkwardly, making excuses instead of giving us space to handle the situation. Their poor handling of a life-threatening allergy made an already frightening experience worse. If you have food allergies, avoid this place.
We visited Pittsburgh for a day and found this restaurant on find me gluten free. Everything on the menu is Gf except two things. Our waitress Ana was awesome! The food was incredible. The empanadas are to die for!!!!
Great spot to get Neapolitan style pizza. They have the best gluten free pizza in Pittsburgh. Wife is Gf and she’s craves it. Honestly can’t tell much of a difference. Gelato is tasty and great selection of wine by glass, half and bottle.
Went to Fat Head's for dinner and the GF Codfather didn’t disappoint, even threw in a gluten free Ghostfish Brewing Company beer. I can’t tell you the last time my wife had either of those out! She has celiac and is super sensitive and didn’t have any side effects, even today!!
Fantastic little place. The majority of the menu is gluten free and everything is very clearly labelled. We got the yuca fries which were delicious. We also got cheese empanada and black bean empanada and both were very good. My daughter generally will not eat “different” foods and neither of us are fans of spices, but everything was perfect.
Not celiac friendly. They have carelessly glutened us after specifically calling in about me and my child having celiac. They offered a gift card in the mail as an apology but I never received one. Stay away from Burgatory.

Food, service and atmosphere were all great and my celiac daughter was well taken care of. I'm giving 3 stars because we went on mother's day and they were taking reservations. But the online wait-list nor anywhere else online that we saw said so. So we joined the wait-list which said 10-20 min but it was really 45min. They really needed to take the wait-list offline and post they are taken reservations for that day.
Edit:
Thanks for the response, good to see you pay attention to customer feedback, I gave you another star for the followup.
I must say ,it is worth the drive ,must go at least once if not more! I hope to travel back in the future at some point. By far my favorite burger joint, u can pick not only from specific items specified on the menu you have the opportunity to customize your own Burger! They do offer vegetables on the menu however it is limited and they do cater to specific allergies. They offer gluten free bun, if u want a bun. Also offer different meat options. Organic beef, to bison, waygu, elk. . Got to check them out! Find out for yourself, the ONLY disappointment was the in house chips lacked flavor, and the slaw was lacking flavor as well. The service was thorough, on point and great at explaining and answering questions.
This review is about the location in Southside.
There's a tl;dr at the end.
I did take-away so it was a limited atmosphere experience. Seemed like a normal kind of diner, just more brown and wooden?
I was VERY excited when I learned they make gluten free waffles (I have Celiac disease). It's only for the "design your own" section, at least when ordering online. Not for the specials. You also can't specify decaf for any of the coffee drinks (I ordered the signature drink that was supposed to have hazelnut, vanilla, and maple flavor with foam on top). But I figured I could deal with full caf for a day, and if I happened to get there before they made it, I could always ask them to do decaf instead.
The order was supposed to be ready to be picked up at 16 past the hour. I got there shortly after that and it wasn't ready. The place was basically empty. As far as I could hear and see there were two tables there, two servers, and two kitchen staff. They were all sort of meandering around slowly, and when one server finally came to greet me, they weren't pleasant at all. I've been a server multiple times in different places, so I know how hard it can be and always try to give the benefit of the doubt, so I was friendly to them and told them my name and what I was there for. They had me sign a receipt (we'd already tipped 15-20% online, our usual for take-away), then set it down and just walked away.
Another server came out and started prepping a to-go hot drink and I asked if that was mine and if so, could they make it decaf please, since there wasn't a way to request that online? The server just said "it's not yours," and finished what they were doing. Apparently didn't tell the other server. I waited another 10 minutes before the other server brought out the bag and said "here you go!" (the friendliest anybody had been). I said I still had a drink. The signature. Then I remembered we'd ordered it separately, trying to do it decaf, so I apologized and explained it was a separate check. They sighed and started prepping it and I quickly asked about the decaf, explaining the order issue. They didn't respond, but I could tell they were unhappy about it. I felt badly, but I had been very friendly, and when I was a server I was happy just to have someone be friendly and kind to me. Nobody ever tipped me on take-away orders. I only had 45min to have lunch with my spouse IF the food had been ready on time, which it wasn't, and now because of the very long wait I was going to have about 10min with him. I just wanted to get out of there, so I wasn't paying much attention while the server made my drink. I thanked her when I got it, and rushed out.
It wasn't until I tasted it a few minutes later when I was at my spouse's office that I realized it was plain coffee/espresso. I don't even know if it was decaf. But it tasted terrible and had none of the things from the signature drink in it I'd paid for. I wasn't going to go back, obviously, because we had no time at that point, and it looked like it was just those employees on the floor. So my spouse drank it instead because he can drink motor oil if it smells like coffee.
Tl;Dr It was super depressing atmosphere inside, servers were rude, food wasn't ready in time, so it ruined rare lunch date with spouse, and I was given plain coffee instead of signature drink I paid for. Lame. 2/5 stars. Only gets even the 2 stars because of the gf waffles, which I haven't been able to have since developing Celiac disease after a major surgery. Those were tasty.
This Mission BBQ is the best one I’ve ever been too. It’s super easy to eat gluten free here because I have Celiac.
The employees are very happy.
The service is impeccable. I always love coming to this location (I’ve been to over 20 locations).
They made it so easy for me to know what had gluten. I really really appreciated that they handed me an annotated menu when we got there.
I got the panang curry with shrimp and my fiancé got the beef cheeks. We also shared the tuna laab and khao yum. He still talks about the meal weeks later and has even tried to make the salad and beef at home. I loved the curry and the natural (somewhat sparkling) wine!
We hope to be back again! The courtyard was the perfect atmosphere.
Journee was a very nice waitress and overall I enjoyed my visit. They have free wifi and a plug somewhat close by if you need to charge your laptop (bring a long cord). The bathrooms are super nice and they do a good job of managing food allergies. All that being said, unfortunately every time I visit a burgatory, the food is always just meh. It doesn't really have much flavor and the gluten free bun was stale. If they can fix that I would definitely come here more often
As a recently diagnosed celiac avoiding dairy, I love stopping at Condado any time I’m in town visiting family. Their menu marks very clearly which items contain gluten & dairy, and the staff is very knowledgeable about food allergies (plus they’re always so friendly!!). I’ve eaten here a few times and never gotten sick. Their delicious gluten free margs, chips, and tacos gives me a sense of normalcy & it’s all so good!
I love Aladdin’s. They have so many gluten free, vegetarian, and vegetarian options. The waitress was very accommodating to my gluten allergy and the baba ganoush was so good. The feel is family owned and local!
If you are looking for a good Middle Eastern food Aladdin's Eatery at Mt. Lebanon is best place to get it. They not only simplify menu by labels such V-for vegetarian VG-vegan GF-gluten free N-contains nuts, but you also get a great choice of smoothies and delicious shareable (cakes are that big) desserts. Depending on a time of the day place can be packed because it’s not that big so you might consider take out. Otherwise atmosphere is so nice that it makes the place be a great place for the dates. I only give it 4 stars because I think they need to offer better tea and coffee-something more than just regular ones.
Really loved this place!
The staff is very kind, the food is delicious and has great portions.
I'm gluten free and they had a dedicated gluten free menu!
I highly recommend the bean dip and the half jerk chicken!
Really authentic Polish food! They have a huge selection of pierogi as well as other traditional food like stuffed cabbage. They also have a few gluten-free pierogi options which is hard to find. Owners are really friendly and welcoming. A new favorite!
Oh, my goodness, love it love it love it. All kinds of crepes, breakfast, sweet, not sweet, dairy free, gluten free, regular, everything! And of course the place. We love walking in this neighborhood for hours.
Kelly was an absolute rockstar. My friend and I are both gluten free and she made sure we had the best experience! We will definitely come back as long as she’s there!!
I don't live near this shop, but my daughter does and really likes their pizza, so I've had them a few times. Its not "Pittsburgh style pizza" like you'll find on Murray Ave; the bottom crust is on the thin side and not quite so much cheese. The taste is good, and I'll bet the toppings are fresher and better quality than most places, but after it goes through a pizza oven I'm not sure that's really noticeable, and you pay for it in more $/slice. I've heard their vegan and gluten-free pies are very good, but I've only had their "regular" - I'm guessing those specialty pies are a big part of their business.

Interesting place that serves meatballs with any meal on the menu. Fantastic options for my friends who are vegetarian, and gluten free! Our server was very pleasant, however she may have been new. Was very slow with getting our drink refills. Also any other restaurant serves a side salad before the main meal. Not here, it came with the meal...
Very nice, clean space. Indoor/outdoor. Friendly staff, great food, wide selection of gluten free items clearly marked on the menu. Best thai restaurant I’ve been to in the burgh.
Wonderful place for an incredible gluten-free biscuit! I can hardly ever eat biscuits so this was a welcome surprise while traveling. Great pimento cheese too! Friendly staff and super cute place.
I've had their breakfast and gluten free pizza. Breakfast was omelet and spouse had waffles which we been enjoyed. I'm gluten free so I had the gluten free (celiacs) margherita pizza which was pretty good (wasn't bad, similar crust to other gluten free pizza, solid toppings). I'm not super sensitive with gluten free but didn't feel bad after eating there.
so grateful to have this place in the neighborhood! great gluten free options at very reasonable prices. staff is always nice. one of the only places it feels like you really get your moneys worth ordering takeout anymore.
This is the first restaurant I've been to with a concept in pittsburgh, like an actually thought out comfortable restaurant concept, easily the best gluten free bun in pittsburgh (Ive had about 13 burgers here and this is easliy the best I assure you) my burger was made exactly how I wanted, and it was delicious my server mallory was amazing, I got evertything exactly as I wanted it as did my girlfriend. I actually looked at my woman and said, "I want to come here for my birthday," and the only other place I've said that about is the fine french establishment in the city, Paris 66... Come here and bring your family it will be good food and a good time.
Friendly staff, yummy food with gluten free options. We were looking forward to the tiger shrimp entree, but they were out. The waiter recommended the short ribs (pictured) and the sweet potato with mascarpone (so good). We also enjoyed some mocktails, deviled eggs, wedge salad, and bisque (best I've ever had).
The Federal Galley is a neat spot to grab a bite and try some beers/cocktails. The atmosphere is relaxed. We went before a concert at the stadium, it wasn't too crowded and was within walking distance from our hotel and to the stadium.
The 4 different kitchen gives you a great variety of options. There were vegetarian options as well as Gluten free buns available.
The beer selection was pretty good (you can see it on untapped) and they had a nice selection of cocktails as well as a full bar.
We happened to be there at happy hour and our 4 beers ended up costing us about 18$
The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star instead of 5 is the table was dirty, we had to find napkins and clean it off. It is more like a food court, as you grab your water/ glasses and cutlery yourself.
The food was delicious and we will probably go back if we find ourselves in town for a show.
Andy was super attentive, super sweet, and helped navigate the menu with a gluten allergy! Because of Andy and how good the food is, whenever I’m in Pittsburgh I will be back!!!
I love Luke Wholey's! The food is excellent, the staff is always friendly! This has become my family's "go-to" place for celebrations! If you go, you have to try the "Captain Crunch Roll", it is fabulous! We have someone in our group who has to eat gluten-free and Luke Wholey's has several options on their menu for her!
The chips and fundido was very tasty. The taquitos and tacos carnitas and barbacoa hit the spot. Was a very tasty and gluten free meal! Quinn was great at answering questions and finding out information about what was safe to eat. Thanks, my dude!
I’ll preface by saying I have a severe gluten intolerance, and the staff was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. They cleaned all the equipment and changed their gloves before making my order, which put my mind at ease.
I ordered the savory classic crepe with buckwheat, I believe someone else posted a photo of it already. Wow, it tastes amazing and fills you up but not in a bad way. The fresh salad is a breakfast addition as well. The coffee, lattes and cappuccinos are also very well made.
The atmosphere is very relaxing, nice decor, and the shop is well kept and clean. Definitely give Mel’s a try when you’re in the Burgh!
Their food was awesome! The hostess was awesome! Lighting and ambiance is awesome too! It was packed in there on a Thursday evening, but the wait wasn't too long. If you have food allergies, they are very accommodating! Rice noodles if you're avoiding gluten, soy free options if you ask.
