Wonderful gluten-free menu with generous portions and reasonable prices. The staff were friendly and attentive and the cafe is very quirky and lovely to spend time at.
I usually have a great experience at Rupert and hound however tonight was appalling.
We had friends visit from interstate so we took them to one of our favourite restaurants here . Being coeliac also a great option for dinner as well.
Friends have a 4 year old boy and we have a 3 year old boy, made this clear on the booking. Our waiter was fantastic. No issues. After the boys finished their dinner and we had just been served our mains they were a bit difficult , wanting to get down from the chair , trying to play with their toy cars on the floor , and we were all attempting to control the situation however as anyone with kids will know it can take a few minutes to figure out what is going to work tonight to get them to settle which we were working on. Got the kids settled, my son was on the lap of my wife with the phone volume turned down watching some videos , and the 4 year old was on the floor by the chair , plenty of room around playing quietly with his cars, could not hear them over the general noise at the restaurant at this point.
The issue as follows, table behind us had a young couple, unsure if they were reviewing the restaurant or something as they had a decent sized camera taking photos of food etc , they were sitting at a table for two against the window near the water. Their waiter came to them and informed them he had organised a new table for them in another area, not to worry it was still by a window and near the water if they would like to be shown to their new table. The couple was visibly confused, they asked why they needed to move and the waiter confirmed ‘if you’re going to enjoy your dinner you’d want to do that somewhere that isn’t so loud and distracting because of where you are sitting ‘ again couple confused asked what he meant, and he confirmed that ‘obviously the family behind is being quite loud and the children were misbehaving’ , they said it wasn’t an issue and were happy with their seating, the waiter confirmed ‘when it becomes a problem just let me know and I’ll sort you out okay’. The whole conversation was riddled with tone from the waiter. The kids at this point at mentioned were not making any noise.
Firstly totally killed the atmosphere in the section immediately. Secondly if you have an issue with the kids let us know, we were attempting to get them under control earlier and there is no issue in popping over if the kids are being disruptive and say ‘hey are we doing okay over here, noticed things seem to be getting a did you want to order some dessert for the boys etc’
Finally the couple clearly didn’t have an issue with what the waiter considered loud and disruptive and by the time he had offered to move them which they didn’t request the kids were fine.
Our guests were quite upset and while we went to pay the mother of the 4 year old took him out the front , and needless to say left in tears.
I won’t be going here again after this.
Absolutely delicious! A great list of menu choices, catering to vegan and gluten free. Also a bathroom inside the cafe! Made me want to live in Launceston!
Brilliant Dining Experience. Lots of Gluten Free options. They were able to facilitate almost all the dishes on the menu as Gluten Free. Delicious gluten free bread. Service was excellent.
I am a Coeliac, not gluten free because I choose to be. I have been into this store 3 times in the last 3 months and on every occasion I have mentioned to the staff behind the counter about the GF salads being on the bottom of the showcase below all "normal" foods and the cross contamination aspects. On this occasion ,one of the staff members who i complained too said she had spoken to one of the chefs previously, and still nothing has been done. Maybe the chefs should have Coeliacs disease and then know just how unwell you can be, vomiting, diarrhoea, pains in your stomach, fever, sweats all at once, its not very nice I assure you when you eat gluten.. While I was waiting for my GF meal to be heated, I observed a young girl with gloves on touching normal food , touching her face then touching the baking paper which she lifted the lid then put the paper on top of my meal. Please give your staff some education on handling and storage of Gluten Free food. Your food is amazing but I want eat anything that isn't covered. What happens in the preparation of your food that we don't see?
Edit: 33 minutes for brunch is definitely not standard but if we are doing minute crunching then yes it wasn’t 45 minutes. Maybe let people know beforehand because this is definitely not industry standards time.
Don’t come here if you are in a rush - waited at least 45 minutes for the BLAT (sandwich) and the Turkish eggs after placing the order. Anywhere else in Australia you would have customers walking out the door for a brunch meal. Their reasoning was there was a gluten free order which required cleaning. I’m not sure why they don’t have a separate set of utensils, or acknowledge that they don’t have the capacity to cater for it without destroying their flow.
Table next to us had a shakshuka that was forgotten and they looked like they waited 40+ minutes as well.
Food wasn’t spectacular, acceptable food and average coffee. Very disappointing experience particularly with a Sunday surcharge slapped on top. Unsure what the hype is about.
Really good pizza - not too heavy on toppings, all very high quality, great both standard and gluten free bases, and very friendly and accommodating staff.
Had 3 Coeliac ppl in a group and the team was absolutely lovely. They tried their hardest to keep it contaminant free and did a great job. We all enjoyed ourselves and didn't get sick at all. Everyone was lovely. And the atmosphere was good. Gives of a very upper bogan country vibe. Absolutely loved it. With the car pics on the walls. And the cool Harley with the pink pig. I thought they had topped it. Until the Hogs breath mascot came out and said hi to my little brother. He absolutely loved it❤️❤️❤️ great night and great photos of my brother he loves to look on and talk about the pink pig😂😂👍
Tattler Lane is a hidden gem!
Great food, fantastic and friendly staff.
Amazing gluten free bread actually baked on site, that tastes like real bread!!
Caters really well for anyone who is gluten free.
Only visiting Launceston, but would come back here any time.
Pictured is the French toast.
