After finding ourselves searching for pizza with outdoor dining outside after 10pm, we had very few options local to Hoboken/JC. This is how we stumbled upon The Brick, and we were not disappointed! To provide context, I give this restaurant 5 stars for outdoor Italian dining after 10pm, but have further criticisms if that was not the case. Truthfully, we have overlooked The Brick for years, as the counter-service atmosphere (my reasoning for 2 stars) and fierce Italian dining competition didn’t give it any stand-out features. However, we were satisfied by our meal! We started with the complimentary garlic knots, which were addictive. We then had the fried calamari and chopped salad. The calamari was fresh and we did enjoy it all, though admittedly it was not competitive with other calamaris in the area. The salad was also everything we expected and a big portion which I liked. We then had a medium pizza, half chicken parm (with a personal modification of Vodka sauce instead of tomato) and half prosciutto-arugula. The crust was crispy, and the toppings went well together. I do think the toppings may have been a bit top-heavy for the pie, as I typically prefer a thinner NY style slice, but I still enjoyed it. We finished with the Spaghetti Fra Diavolo. It was good, but also not top tier Italian. Very spicy, if you’re into that! I was intrigued by the large vegan and gluten-free menu, which I had no idea about and would definitely recommend to folks with dietary restrictions. Overall, I think this is one of the best options for late-night sit-down outdoor Italian dining. But go any earlier, and the plethora of other options unfortunately outshines The Brick.

RUN here if you have celiac or other GF needs. They have fried donuts that don't taste like dry cake. SO GOOD. The marscapone donut was my favorite. The Nutella bites were good, but not as good as I hyped them up in my mind. If this place was around the corner from me I'd be here daily.

One of my favorite places in Hoboken- I still can’t believe we can get gluten free calamari here!! Love love love the food, I’m usually paralyzed with the number of gf options, including flatbread, pastas, appetizers, and of course, great wine. My eyes are usually bigger than my stomach when we come here… what a first world problem to have. Highly recommend.

This place was amazing. My son goes to Stevens which is two blocks away and we went to have a meal with him. We sat outside which was really nice if you like to people watch. The tables were small but we made it work. The staff was on top of things for sure and the food and drinks came out fast. The food was delicious and the serving size was very very generous. My wife had gluten free pizza and it was one of the best she ever had. They also had gluten free pasta. The prices were not bad considering the amount of food and it is Hoboken. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to eat. Worth the visit for sure

Overall the food was good, unfortunately we didn't have a great waitress. We purposely picked this restaurant to meet friends at because online it shows their menu has gluten free options. My fiancé has Celiac disease and he ordered the house chopped salad and informed the waitress he can't have gluten. The waitress said their dressing for that salad is a beer based dressing - the restaurant shouldn't be advertising it as gluten free if it has beer in it! She also got confused and said there was a vegan option of dressing she can do, which isn't helpful because that doesn't mean gluten free. Food allergies are something that if you're working in a restaurant, you need to know the difference between vegan and gluten free. We called a few days in advance to make a reservation and while we were there, the waitress wasn't giving us enough time to order, she came back three times and then finally told us that there is a party coming in later and they have the whole restaurant booked. We purposely called in advance for the reservation, the restaurant shouldn't have taken a reservation for when we asked if they were going to be pushy to rush us out. Lastly, this is just minor but we ran out of water very quickly (before our food came) and the waitress never came back once until our food was done. I know this is a long post and usually people complain just to complain. If you see my other reviews, most of them are 5 stars. Mainly I wanted to post this because I wouldn't want someone eating there and getting sick or having an allergic reaction.
