GF waffle was meh. I have celiac so I am judging in comparison to GF foods purely. The cheese had a crust on it like it was American cheese that had been overcooked and the peppers were cooked somehow such that the skin was still super tough but the meat was mush. The service was also quite slow. The savory choice didn't work out. I do not appear to have been glutened however, so a star is earned back for that.
Nearly everything on the menu — including the chips — is gluten-free! Their new printed menu doesn’t show GF menu items though, strangely. The waiters were confused that nothing was labeled and had to go back to consult with the old menu. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
If I could give the service zero stars, I would. I ordered through DoorDash and did not receive part of my order, which was for a coworker - a gluten free pizza (the only thing she can eat). We contacted DoorDash and they asked us to call Mellow Mushroom. I spoke to a manager who went back and forth with me regarding getting MY money back. He was rude and impatient, when at that point all I wanted was my money back for something I did not get. Maybe the Dasher kept the other pizza, but it would have made the experience better to talk to a nicer manager. I will not be returning to this location.
Shout out to Bryan, who always takes care of us when we come into Mission BBQ. He knows my daughter’s allergies and makes the best gluten-free fries for her. The Charlottesville Mission BBQ is like a going home to a kitchen that cares for their family. Thankyou for giving such a personal experience to bbq and making a little girl’s day with your excellent fries!!
My 7year old daughter’s review:
OH MY GOSH SUCH A AMAZING PLACE 10 STARS i love the food there so many cool people anyways keeep it UP! 💙
I was looking for a healthy breakfast after my cycle workout and this was absolute perfection. I had the avocado toast with lox (they even have gluten free options, which I had) with a smoothie. It was delightful and the ambiance is super fresh. Go experience it for yourself :-)
I LOVED this place, I could eat gluten free, healthy food and enjoy the venue's lovely ambience. Due to having more free time than I had anticipated I ended up here several times, slowly becoming more familiar with the lovely staff there. I cannot recommend the cauliflower bowl, it is DELICIOUS, yes, really, I had it every time I went, it was filling and healthy, and just tasted so good. I was also able to enjoy a sweet treat with my coffee's too, which was the literal icing on the cake!
The prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere was fantastic, I was able to put my laptop on and work away, watching the coming and going of customers whilst enjoying a beverage or two. Genuinely, this was the best place for food in the main street area - bravo.
We had an absolutely fantastic meal here on Valentine's Day. Even on a busy night, we were seated promptly for our reservation, but not rushed through our meal.
The drinks menu is delightful, and the zero-proof options are thoughtful and complex. We had delicious appetizers (GF Corn Muffins, yum!) but could have skipped the chicken wings.
Entrees were delicious and both of us commented on how nice it was that the dishes came with several accompany vegetables - it made it feel like a complete meal without having to order a ton of sides.
Finally, the desserts were delicious - the chocolate mud pie is definitely shareable, and we also enjoyed the banana pudding.
One of us ordered gluten free items and they were all delicious, definitely recommend for dietary restrictions!
Stop reading this review now and get to Kanak Indian Kitchen. Everything about this restaurant is spectacular— food, atmosphere, service, drinks. They have an awesome gluten free naan and clear specifications for GF. The rice, the mango chutney, the sauces… I mean, wow. I’m actually sitting in the restaurant now for lunch writing this review because it couldn’t wait. I got an Anjali’s Elixir which was an out-of-this-world, write-home flavor experience. Go, go now!!! I can’t wait to be hungry again so I may come back.
Food was great. I ordered the 8inch yardsale pizza and it was excellent. My wife is allergic to gluten so she ordered a gluten free chicken pizza that was excellent as well. The Buffalo wings were great. Staff was super nice and the place was clean.

We should’ve left when we walked in because all of the tables were dirty and it didn’t smell pleasant. My daughter had just finished a soccer game and wanted to eat here. I ordered Pad Thai with chicken, since it is one of their gluten free options. When it came to the table, it did not have any egg, peanuts, cabbages or sauce. I’m not a complainer so my family ate their meals. My husband realized that my meal did not look appealing. He went to the register and told her all of the items my Pad Thai was missing. The lady stated that she didn’t even know how the order went through because they were missing all of the ingredients to make the dish. She offered to allow us to order another dish, but at that point we were ready to get out of there.
We enjoyed a great meal on the patio. Food is ready super fast and is so fresh and good. Easily customize for food allergies including dairy and gluten free. The brisket is amazing… we’ll be back!
Service was so friendly! There is a variety of options for vegans, gluten free, vegetarian, and people who can eat about anything. Everything was delicious from the Thai iced tea to the Crying Tiger and pad Thai. Monsoon Siam is located on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. Great spot to go for a work lunch, night with friends, or a date!
Very tasty. They forgot my sides and had to go back and get them, and one of our fish was overdone, but they took them off the check so that was nice. Everything else was tasty. We recommend the seasonal veg, the mashed potatoes, and the corn chowder. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Very good with gluten and meat free requirements, very accommodating.
Gluten free buns available for any of the sandwiches!!! This is not on their menu nor did I see it posted "just had to ask". Yum! Fresh home style pulled chicken sandwich the "winner" "winner" absolutely delicious and completely unexpected. After attempting to pick it up and failing miserably I actually ate my sandwich with a knife and fork! The tortilla chips were great - not like your traditional tortilla chips. Nice and clean place with outdoor seating available. Cashier was very friendly and helpful.
I almost put four stars but then felt guilty. The reason being the portion sizes seem small for the price, but I'm going to add the caveat that I live in a rural area, where things are dirt cheap. So it's likely my bias. That aside, the food was great. I got a ham and brie and they had gluten free bread which is always exciting. Gluten free is well marked on the menu. overall, a nice little lunch spot.
I really loved the fact that the menu had plenty of vegan and gluten free options. I would recommend the black pepper tofu and broccoli. Cozy, lively atmosphere and our waitress was such a sweetheart. Would definitely eat here again.

We had The Local cater our wedding and it was an amazing experience! We had tons of options and everything was customizable. The biscuit bar immediately sold us too! Our dinner was a plated meal and it was similar to restaurant style set up and serving. We were able to have children’s meals as well as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free plates for guests! No one went hungry or thirsty! The staff was enjoyable and floated through the venue like pros making sure everything was managed and everyone was happy. They 100% contributed to the smoothness of the evening. My glass was always full and I was met with politeness and hospitality. During the planning phase we even were invited to the restaurant for a meal and were shown great hospitality then too. I would definitely recommended this location to anyone looking for a GREAT meal and GREAT service.
This was such a quaint spot to stop into while browsing the Downtown Mall area of Charlottesville! It’s a little hidden and we stumbled upon it by accident, but I believe that adds to the charm of the place. It’s on the top floor so you will need to walk up steps and I didn’t see an elevator for those with mobility concerns. At the top you’re greeted by a Bedouin themed area with both table and chair seating and traditional Bedouin style seating (low tables and cushions for seats). There is also a private seating area in the back with similar Bedouin style seating and a few outdoor table/chair seats.
Although it has varying tea options, there were a decent amount of food options as well. The restaurant is vegetarian with a decent number of vegan options as well. They do also have the option to add salmon to some of their dishes if you prefer meat protein. Vegetarian/Vegan/Gluten Free options are labeled on the menu so no need for guessing. We ordered Blossoming Tea, the Smoked Salmon Sandwich with a side of Dahl, the Coconut Cardamon Cake, and the Vegan Spice Cake. First time trying dahl so for those who also haven’t tried it before, it’s made of lentils so tastes like a grainer porridge. We enjoyed the spice cake but found the Cardamon Teacake a tad dry. The Smoked Salmon Sandwich was wonderful.
As a tea enthusiast this was a great visit, but this is also a must visit if you just want a cool place to take a break or if you want a cozy spot to eat. Will visit again if in town.

Wonderful dinner and service. We were so happy that the heat broke and we were able to eat outside. Our server kept our water glasses full which was very appreciated since it was still warm.
I am Gluten, Dairy and soy free so I always worry what I'll be able to eat.
The server helped me pick and I got the brussel sprouts over grits with chicken. I also had a few cocktails,
My husband had the salmon burger
The Ego Boost is a really nice cocktail, I would recommend it if you like bourbon.
We finished the night with the GF almond and olive oil cake that was to die for.
Excellent dinner and experience overall.
My wife and I had an amazing experience and meal here. My wife has celiac disease and normally when we go out to eat the questions we have about gluten free options are usually seen as an inconvenience or burden. Our visit tonight was quite the contrary! Paul went through the menu item by item and did it with an enthusiasm that shows his love for serving others and love for food. The meal was exquisite and next time we are in Charlottesville we will be back. Ask for Paul!!!
Had a wonderful experience here. HUGE selection of beer from all over the Americas. They even have GLUTEN FREE BEER! The best two brands IMO. Had dinner and many laughs.
We had a wonderful experience at Smyrna. All of the staff were so welcoming and attentive, and the food was next level. So many unique dishes to choose from. They were very accommodating of my gluten allergy as well. I’m sad that I don’t live here so I can’t come back all the time!
Great experience. These guys were busy and had the food prepared quickly. I asked for the Gluten Free option on my burger (lettuce wrap in place of bun) and they were trained properly and asked if this was because of Gluten allergy (yes).
Delicious and juicy burgers. Hit and crunchy fries and cold soda. Perfect experience.
Only one other comment would be keep an eye on dining space and trash overflows. I know you were busy but we had to clean our own table.
Otherwise I fully enjoyed my late lunch. Thanks guys.
What a fantastic restaurant. And Thomas, the manager, was an unbelievable host. Super accommodating and made sure my wife's gluten allergy could be accommodated.
I've been frustrated over the last 6 months or so trying to get gluten-free options at the Timberwood grill and I asked this week and the manager Stephanie went out of her way to take time to understand my situation. She went and got me a menu and made a special point to hear what I had to say and to help me and they have fantastic gluten-free options, good food and the management here is really great. Especially Stephanie.
A wonderful place to get a sweet treat. Plenty of dairy and gluten free options, and the owner, PK, is always very careful when I mention my food allergies. There are classic gelato flavors to choose from that sit alongside unique and really creative flavors for those who like to try new things! We also ordered custom gluten free & dairy free cupcakes for our baby shower that were absolutely delicious and worth every penny. Splendora's is a family favorite of ours. Definitely a small business to support!
Great for a quick bite to eat. They have an app you can order on and pick up. They also have a loyalty card (buy 10 get 1 free). You can sub the pita for carrots if you have a gluten intolerance.
Dining area and tables a bit small. Can fully hear other people's convo during dinner because it's small and cramped. At least the room we were in. Didn't matter much because the food was amazing. Service was also great.
Absolutely amazing... This is respectfully comparable to the upscale Italian restaurants in Chicago. I had the chicken parm w/sausage & gluten free pasta. WOW 10/10 -- The pasta and everything tasted exactly like it was made from scratch. The texture in the pasta is so beautiful.
Elegant dining experience and the waitress was very accommodating. Please visit this gem if you're ever in the area. We would definitely visit again! Thanks staff + cook! =)
Waterman’s surfside grille
This was right across the street from out hotel. I saw this place stay packed throughout the day the WHOLE weekend. Thank goodness we only had to walk across the street.
They only offer valet parking at the restaurant, so just be aware. There's a beautiful view inside of the ocean front. It looks better on the inside than the outside.
I had the fried seafood platter with the soup. It was amazing. Oh my goodness.. I wish I would've ate here more than once! 10/10 experience.

We LOVED this place! We got 2 wines and 4 teas to share at the table, the vegan & and gluten-free chocolate cupcake, and the Calamasi Tart, all of which were delicious. We even bought 4 bags of loose leaf tea for home, 3 bags of the mint and 1 bag of the rose tea (one of the mints and the rose are for me, and the other two bags of mint are for my parents and sister). The staff was very kind and attentive and gave us recommendations for local wineries to try while we are in the area. The cutlery/dishes were gorgeous along with the rest of the place; there were beautiful murals on practically every wall and matching decor. Loooooooved it, thank you!!!

Food that will literally make you cry of happiness. With so much flavor, an absolutely fantastic wine selection, and such a great friendly and outgoing ambience, Fleurie is my new favorite restaurant of all time. Gluten-free choices abound too. I’d give it 6 stars if I could. Highly recommended.
DelIcious and relaxing meal at the Southern Crescent. One of their specials today was the gluten-free pecan waffles and they were TO DIE FOR. Lovely outdoor patio, live jazzy piano on the patio as well. Great experience and I look forward to coming back!
Charlottesville Classic - Great Food - Excellent Service
My wife grew up in Charlottesville and has been going to Duner’s since they opened. I have been going there for over 10 years. It was a “go-to” when we visited my wife’s parents and remains so when we are in town. I know that they have gone through ownership and chef changes the last couple of years but everything seems to be corrected and it was great on Sunday night. The service was excellent, thanks to Dillion, who we know from where he worked previously (FCC). I think that the prices are very reasonable. I have seen negative comments about the wine list but found it to be very clear with a large selection of reasonably priced options. If you cannot understand the list, it is easy to just ask your server. The hot bread is addictive to start. The cocktails are well made. The wine came out quickly. The food is consistently good and also came out quickly. They also have a lot of gluten-free options that they label on the menu. It is a little noisy but it has always been that way. It is a small space with lots of people enjoying themselves. Hopefully, the new addition (and renovation?) will address that small issue. We had an excellent dinner and look forward to coming back soon.
We visited this establishment on Friday. They open at noon. Come on down. There are very friendly and hospitable. Large selection of beer and cider to choose from. Full restaurant menu, with vegan options and gluten free options.
