Just go! This was delish, atmosphere was quiet, clean, neat. The variety of goodies was vast, and its gluten free! But doesn't taste like it at all!
Y'all this is place is delish!
Outstanding GLUTEN-FREE fried chicken and salt and vinegar string fries. We sat ourselves in the semi-enclosed private room on the second floor, which was comfortable, allowed us to hear the live music and talk comfortably with one another. The cocktails were delightful and interesting!
Stopped in after work with a friend for a late lunch and had the best tuna salad sandwich *chefs kiss* My friend couldn’t stop raving about her food also. Server was fantastic and funny. Menu features gluten free options for those of us with dietary restrictions. Hope to go again!
If you've recently lost a loved one (egg, milk, gluten) then this is the place you need to try. They work magic. I don't know how they make brioche or pastry cream without eggs or dairy but they did it excellently.
I go here several times a week. Chili Avocado Toast on GF bread is a go to. Vegan scramble is great, too. Don’t miss out on the dirty lemonade! This is a great little local cafe with gf options available. I don’t have such a severe issue that I need to worry about cross contamination, so I can’t say that it’s celiac safe, but it works for me!
As some with multiple, severe food restrictions, Lamara was a wonderful surprise. Almost everything is gluten-free, and I had numerous dairy free and mammal free options as well.
Excellent customer service, the General manager was so friendly. The place is very clean and kid friendly. So many fresh options and gluten free options. Would come back again
Edit - I was a little disappointed at my last visit. The child's meal was expensive and not warm enough. It also didn't taste good- not even my husband liked it and he hardly ever passes up chicken strips. His sandwich was also pretty bland and not served fresh- it tasted a lot like something you get from a vending machine without much flavor wise.
I had the salad bar which was tasty, but was disappointed in only getting one trip and not having much selection. I also didn't get a plate until tm after my family got n their meals, so they ended up waiting a long time for me to finish.
I may go there by myself next time just for the salad bar but will get it togo for sure.
Original review:
This is one of my fav places to go for a healthy and filling meal.
I love the salad bar and soups.
They have vegetarian and vegan options. They also have gluten-free bread for an extra charge.
Delicious food served in a non-chain decor which is warm and welcoming. All the soups are gluten free as is the scoop of chicken salad. The gluten free soup was prepared separately with care to prevent cross contamination.
I Got the Texas tuna melt on gluten bread and really didn’t enjoy it.I asked for fruit cup and got a salad and I wanted regular sun chips but got the cheese kind instead.I really wanted to like this place but ahhh idk🫤🫤
I have been coming here for years with my 3 young kids for breakfast. I have celiac disease and my kids are 3, 5, and 7. Everyone is always very accommodating with my being gluten free and with the craziness of the kids. Christy M is usually our server and she is the bomb.com.
Wow! Where do I even begin? The place is so clean and new, the staff is so kind, hard at work, and always have a smile on their face! I am a vegetarian so it is hard to find food options at many places but not here! They have multiple options for those who do not eat meat. This is a great spot to come Fridays during Lent! Not only do they have vegetarian options, but also gluten free! The managers are doing a great job…keep up the good work!
Our favorite lunch spot in town! The food is fantastic, and they have gluten free options, which means our entire family can enjoy it. They always treat me and my kids with such patience and kindness. We especially love the precious woman who’s always behind the counter. 10/10 recommend giving them your business!
Great place, line moves fast, good sandwiches on delicious bread. They have gluten free bread if you ask for it. Medium size sandwich is nice size. For a super duper hunger pang, get the large, which would make two meals for the ordinary person. Nice friendly service and the line moves quickly.
... and 24hrs later, they have taken the accessibility off their menu and website.
Cool. All the restaurants dont care about serving anyone but the same old thing for everyone who can eat anywhere. I guess I will never go out to eat then, Ikes.
.......
I got delivery. I have tons of allergies due to medical conditions, including celiac. I had no reactions and loved my food. It is wild to me how hard it is to get a sandwich I can eat from local places but I can get one here, so I'm very grateful!

I can see why Elsie’s has been a highly popular choice for locals and tourists alike! We stopped by for a hot lunch on our way to visit Mississippi. I chose Elsie’s bc they have gluten free options. I had the grilled chicken plate with red beans and rice, and broccoli. That chicken was SO dang good. I missed
getting the crustless crab pie (sadly) but the chicken plate sure made up for it! Hubby had a fried shrimp platter that he said was just okay. Bathroom is a single seater but seems to have a very short wait time. Parking is behind the street and then you can pop right back out to the highway pretty easily. Our server, Mei/May, was super cute and helpful. I took home about 1/2 the red beans and rice with the remaining broccoli. It was a perfect dinner reheated! It’s got some charm and nice artwork (some even for sale). Kinda like
popping in on your mom & them!
This location is our go to for lunch. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is top tier. We come here so often that they know us on a first name bases. My go to is the Engineer on Gluten free bread. There aren’t many restaurants in the area that have gluten free options. This place is a MUST try.
The sandwiches at McAlister's are incredible, and they even offer gluten-free bread! I highly recommend the Ruben sandwich, and their potato salad is absolutely delicious. McAlister's is definitely my go-to place for sandwiches in Ruston.
Shout out to the crew today working around 12pm! I requested a gluten free sub and she paused the line and changed out all cutlery, everyone changed their gloves. It was greatly appreciated!
I actually don’t even give it a 1 star as far as service. Coke machine produced an off tasting regular coke but that is nothing compared to the time it took to get served. We went in at 12:03 and didn’t get served till 12:40. Food tasted ok. But wasn’t delivered nicely and carefully as ours was gluten free. I didn’t see them wipe down the board or switch it out. They didn’t even change gloves.
Had the Italian sandwich with potato salad and a dr pepper,
Italian sandwich: 6 inch. bread was good, I asked if they have gluten free and they tried there best to accommodate, the entire sandwich was delicious, nothing overcooked and nothing undercooked, the sauce was a bit overwhelming towards the end but overall 4.5 out of 5.
Potato salad: was absolutely delicious zero complaints other than wanting more.
Dr pepper: large was a good size but should go with medium for the drink because it's pretty big,
My total came to around 14 dollars for my part of the meal, if the price was about 2 dollars less I would come once a week, but at current would only come once a month.
Customer service was great, they had a new person working front which caused it to take longer but i am of the mind everything is a teachable moment so the interaction was worth it.
I have celiac disease also allergic to milk dairy vinegar etc I came in with my mom told them my allergies they said perfect we will go being and over to safely make ur sub took my order made it safe and secure very responsible and respectful thank y’all best sub
They have stopped carrying gluten free bread at this location even though it is CLEARLY listed on Firehouse’s Web site. (See photo) Thanks to this, my family can no longer eat here. No one at the restaurant knows why they stopped carrying it and no one knows if/when they will ever have it again. So sad, because we really liked this place.
The gentlemen working last night could use an education on gluten free food. Both how to make the subs, and how to ring them up. I wasn't up for telling them what's what, but they sold me a white bread sub. I'm glad I can actually eat regular bread, even though I prefer to eat gluten free.
I had an excellent experience! I ordered a gluten free sandwich, and Sophie, Christian, and Collin went above and beyond to make sure I had a safe and positive experience. They were so kind and helpful! 10/10 recommend visiting this location.
My wife and I cam here in November 2023 and since I came back I had to find this place. The Customer Service is great (maybe better then Chick-fil-a) and the food is prepared fresh, so when you eat it, it is hot. My wife even ate here last time and when the Manager found out she has Celiac, she personally fixed her food. This is southern hospitality at it's best. Sorry, I don't have pictures of my food, it looked to good not to dive in.
I love firehouse subs. I went gluten free about a year ago, and hadn't had the opportunity to eat at firehouse subs since then. So when I heard they had a gf bread option, I decided to go back. I had my 6 kids, so we all went in. Unfortunately, they didn't have the gf bread, but I think I should have called first. We gf got a salad option, and my not gf kids got sandwiches. 3 stars because I was a little disappointed. I'll call before we go next time.
