Benihana

We dined on July 11th for dinner/ celebrating my best friends birthday. She had made the reservation and we arrived early. Decided to take a break and wait at the bar. Me and my SO ordered 2 drinks and waited for our party to arrive. Once arrived we ordered another round of drinks and decided to check out the gluten sensitive menu. I mentioned to our server we were ordering from the gluten sensitive menu. Pointing to the different color menu than everyone else’s. We ordered the colossal shrimp w filet mignon and the scallops and filet mignon. When she brought out the first course it was the onion soup. It seemed weird because the soup wasn’t offered on our menus. I didn’t think anything of it maybe I was wrong or read wrong. It’s fine right? No…. My friend mentioned it was very onion flavored. I looked but there’s no onions? I used my spoon to stir deep in the soup and saw fried onions. I immediately told my SO to stop eating it. I knew then this was not gluten free. We asked the server if it was gluten free? And she didn’t know. The manager came out and took the soups away and offered to bring us edamame. We asked him about our drinks. He said he was going to check. Finally we start get the drinks. We have the edamame. Everything is great. Besides knowing that we will suffered from the bad reactions later from eating the soup. The chef comes out and prepares our meal. Everything was super! When the server came back, she asked if we would like our left over boxed up. We all requested for boxes. Great! Right? Nope! Next day when we went to heat up our left overs. We opened the box and found udon noodles. That the couple next to us had ordered. Needless to say. That was not the food we had ordered and were given the wrong food. Which is pretty disgusting! Taking someone else’s food. Everything went into the trash. My friends had gotten their food boxed up correctly but not ours. This was my first time dining here with Benihana and would like to recommend for people who are gluten sensitive or celiacs to dine here with the exception of being vigilante on everything. You can’t trust what they put in front of you even when you repeat many times that you are gluten sensitive. I did send an email to Benihana but have not heard back from anyone.

This review is for the Benihana in Conroe, located off of I-45. The food and service from this establishment is AMAZING. They delivered to the clinic I work at and we are all very happy with everything. We were completely taken care of. My front office supervisor even received a call from them about an hour after the food was delivered just to check in to make sure everything was great and our needs had been met and that is above and beyond in my book. They even accommodated my special dietary needs which require me to be gluten free and that was very much appreciated. We will definitely be dining with Benihana again as a clinic and individually as we want to share this great restaurant with our friends and families as well! Thank you so much again Benihana!

Cory was our chef tonight. He is hilarious, a great cook, and a wonderful entertainer. We will be back in the future. As someone with a gluten allergy, I was very impressed with a gluten free menu.
