Horrendous experience. We recently heard that this restaurant could cater to those with Celiac disease. So we gave it an go today!! Everyone was excited. After asking repeatedly to confirm everything is gluten free and free from cross contamination, before/during/after, we were assured it was. My 10 year old is now violently ill. I might point out that it was 2:00pm when dined and we were the only table there. All any parent of a child with Celiac asks is that a restaurant is just honest on whether they can guarantee gluten free food and possibility of cross contamination (within reason). If you can’t, we’ll bring something with us!! The severity of the reaction my son experiences is always in proportion to the amount gluten he ingests. If it’s a slight cross contamination, it’s usually a couple trips to the toilet to vomit, bit of Tylenol then he’s good. The severity of this particular attack tells me it was direct ingestion of wheat. We’re moments away from going to the hospital. To the waitress that served us and the owner of this establishment…shame on you. I wish you were here watching my child experience the effects of your neglect. Watching your child suffer like this is heartbreaking. While I’m on it…the service was terrible too. Seeing as how we were the only table in the place, why did I have to go to the bar to tell her we were ready to order, again to order a drink, then again to ask for the bill. The Canadian guilt in me still left a 15% tip. Regret that now. Edit to this post after the fact…Owner contacted me and refunded money. Offered up apology. He did clarify that food is prepared in same kitchen so avoidance of cross contamination cannot be guaranteed. He said staff are supposed to tell the customers this. He’s committed to retraining and educating.

We always love visiting Ulis. Last night we were visiting and I believe Dean (bubbly guy with beard) served us— he is the best! So knowledgeable and attentive, always making great recommendations. Plus there are many options for people with celiac disease. Thanks again Dean and ulis staff!

Another White Rock gem that took me way too long to try! Really nice staff and vibe here. It’s so hard to find spots that compare to service and standards of Vancouver and Wooden Spoon does not disappoint! We came for a birthday lunch/brunch and it was pretty busy for a weekday. The service was great. The food was delicious and the drinks were great. We are vegan + gluten free and dairy free + gluten free so there isn’t too much for us on the menu, but that’s ok. Unfortunately in 2024 it’s still a struggle to find restaurants that cater to non soy + gluten eating vegans + dairy free peeps. I would definitely come here again. It’s seems like a really awesome local spot to have some awesome food and drinks!

The service felt uninvited, but still good at filling my water when empty. I couldn't tip much because they didn't over exceed my expectations in service, but the cooks, made big size portions, perfect nutrition balance, almost no ingredients that my body would fight against ; gluten, processed chemicals, good eats. Just service was lacking a bit. Could have been a full 5 stars.

CONSIDER ME SHOOK. I just ate probably the best food I have ever had at a café AND ITS VEGAN?! YOU MEAN IT WONT HURT MY STOMACH?! AND YOU CAN GET IT GLUTEN FREE?! Never going to another coffee shop ever again consider me a customer for life. The owners Ben & Mannel are the most incredible kind people and it reflects in their staff. The fact I’m eating an almond croissant right now and it’s vegan. Again… just absolutely blown away from the amount of options they have for people with dietary restrictions !! So beyond satisfied thank you grounds and greens!! hope you enjoy the photo of me devouring my croissant <3

Amazing cafe with wonderful atmosphere, filled with locals. Staff incredibly helpful and food absolutely delicious. Huge mugs of coffee, which helped our jet lag. Beautiful baked goods, we even bought a gluten free muffin to takeaway for our son, which looks incredible. Perfect breakfast or lunch spot. We will be back! Thank you.

We had a party of four. My husbands steak was rare, he ordered medium, one persons steelhead was partly uncooked, the lamb looked lovely. I have celiac disease, and phoned ahead to check protocols, I chose a gluten free meal, but sadly was glutened, and will suffer for it.

Amazing waffles and crepes ✨ The attention to detail of the man working there was a rarely seen professional touch 👌🏼 The food itself was balanced nicely, the fruit was fresh. The options are a nice variety of sweet or savoury depending on what you're feeling. The portion is a great size. AND there are both GLUTEN FREE and EGG FREE options! I cannot stress how amazing it is to find something so very tasty that isn't going to hurt after 🙏🏼✨ Thank you so much for offering these options with the same good quality as the regular ones ✨ Highly recommend.

I'm so impressed with this place I stopped eating to write this review. I asked if some items were gluten free and I know this isn't always easy to every single thing on a menu, specifically if it's fully gluten free or "may have been in contact" kind of gluten free. My request is of preference but all this aside, when I asked about an item that was a tough one the lovely waitress CALLED THE OWNER😳🙏 how amazing is that right? I had a lovely chat and ordered exactly what I wanted "gluten free". If you're looking for service, kindness, good food and warm hearts, eat here now! Dhanyabaad 🙏
