I have been celiac for about two years and have been going to quite a few chef restaurants, including Segev Express in Hod Hasharon and Ramat HaHayal. Every restaurant I went to had gluten-free options, and the option to change the dishes to suit my sensitivity, even if the kitchen is not sterile. I left the Japanese restaurant I went to today very disappointed and hungry. There was no starter or dessert that had a gluten-free option, and there was almost no selection of gluten-free dishes for the main courses. I found myself settling for one sushi roll that I could have eaten without gluten. I arrived at the restaurant hungry and left hungry. In 2025, when the level of awareness of celiac disease is high and almost every self-respecting kitchen adapts itself to gluten-free alternatives in most dishes, I also experienced gluten-free options in the kitchens of Segev Express and enjoyed it. Disappointing to know that it also cost quite a bit of money and I left hungry.

After a tour of the flowering Tel Katara and a stone clay workshop in Moshav Kidron we looked for a place close to lunch. Quite by chance, we "stumbled upon" a cool little home restaurant called Abu Hillel at 13 Ha'Hadezim St. in Gadara. We went in a little suspicious but left satiated and satisfied with the delicious and varied food prepared by chef Hezi, and Liat's dedicated service. I especially liked the vegan sweet potato patties in curry sauce (Hazi revealed to us the "secret" of the ingredients but we won't tell you so as not to steal his original recipe). My partner really enjoyed the couscous and vegetables which was delicious and seasoned to the right degree. Also the Abu Hillel salad which included vegetables in tahini sauce and hummus grains was seasoned to a more interesting degree than a normal banal vegetable salad. The design of the restaurant is simple and minimalistic and the dinnerware is vintage from the seventies. Most of the dishes are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and even those avoiding gluten. In summary: a culinary and cultural experience in an old-time home restaurant. Highly recommended!

I returned to Weizmann after years away. The place has changed for the better. A dark bar of 20-year-olds became a place on a level. The food was very good in my opinion.
