Alexander’s Tavern is owned by someone knowledgeable about Celiac and offers a multitude of safe gluten-free options with a dedicated kitchen space and fryer! I recommend the nachos and tater tots!
Wonderful place with great food, and a great variety of food to keep everyone happy including folks wanting to eat healthy. Vegetable/vegan/gluten-free etc. options. Amazingly helpful and friendly service from Mr. Keith who accommodated our tight schedule and difficult modifications - and was able to make our kids laugh. Loved it!
Oh my dear beloved Burtons,
This is our go-to restaurant as a Celiac family. Any event, celebration, etc, we are at Burtons. Unfortunately, the Riverdale location is going off of our list and will be returning to the Alexandria location. When I say we go for all the celebrations, I'm not joking.
Yesterday was the worst experience we have ever had at any restaurant and it was brunch on Father's Day. Mother's Day was fine. We were there. No issues. But, Father's Day was a diabolical disaster. If this was our first experience, which I fear it was some people's first time, I would never come back.
Let me start by saying, the serving staff was amazing. You could tell the kitchen was falling apart but they were trying their best to hold the front of house together. I am going to repeat that we were there for brunch so when I say there were no water pitchers or food was unavailable, you know it got worse throughout the day into dinner service. Why advertise specials that you don't have? My husband and I both ordered off the specials menu. Appetizer sold out (at brunch.. yikes), main course was unrecognizable. They didn't have mashed potatoes, which were part of the dish. The sauce was missing from the chicken, and the chicken was more like Jerky. Needless to say, I took my meal home and didn't eat it. I was offered french fries at the end of my meal when I was informed there were in fact no mashed potatoes cooked. I took those home too. My daughter also ordered chicken that she didn't eat because hers was also a dried out jerky form.
I will say, the waitress did comp a piece of chocolate cake, but after spending $150 on meals that 3/4 of us didn't eat, I decided you need to do better. In this economy, $150 for a family of 4 to have brunch comes with a certain expectation and you failed. Like I said, our family adores Burtons and we know what this restaurant is capable of and a busy brunch isn't an excuse to lose customers. I can only imagine what a mess dinner service was when you were running out of food by lunch time. Poor management destroys business. Do better. You have a strong reputation to uphold in the allergy and celiac community.
Having several food allergies, this was easily the most seamless, delicious, healthy dining experience I had. There were plenty of amazing options.
I got the gluten free air-fried chicken parm with squash spaghetti noodles, a lemon tart, and a lavender matcha latte. My husband got blueberry pancakes, steak&eggs, yogurt fruit parfait, and we split a strawberry arugula salad. The dessert and drinks weren’t too sweet and the food was yummy. Our waiter Craig, did an amazing job making recommendations on items to try.
I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to go out to eat while making conscious health choices, actively trying to avoid inflammatory foods and seed oils, or with food sensitivities/allergies.

We ended up here on a whim the day of the fall festival. It was crowded but we were seated very quickly. The service was great and was completely unaffected by how packed it was. They had gluten free options available (even dessert, which is rare). I had a BLT on a gluten free bun AND a gluten free strawberry shortcake. I will absolutely be back.
Great diary free vegan milkshakes. All the Gluten free breads is vegan. The food was delicious and the staff very accomidating to my food allergies. Only diner I've ever had a fulfilling meal at with my allergies
Great food and service in a fantastic location. So many gluten free options! Our server, James, was knowledgeable about the menu and super helpful in explaining all the gluten free options available to us. My husband LOVED the beef stew: great flavor, plenty of beef. My salad was huge and fresh, no wilty greens. We split an order of fish and chips, made gluten free with specific batter and dedicated fryers. The batter was SO crispy. My husband ordered the creme brulee with whipped cream and fresh berries for dessert, and it was AMAZING. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to a return trip.
I recently visited Truefood, and I have to say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The ambiance is warm and inviting, perfect for a casual meal or a special occasion. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu.
The food was absolutely delicious! Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I was particularly impressed by the variety of options, catering to both health-conscious eaters and those with specific dietary needs. Whether you're vegan, gluten-free, or just looking for something light and tasty, Truefood has something for everyone.
Overall, Truefood is a top-notch restaurant that I highly recommend. If you're looking for healthy, delicious, and beautifully prepared food, this is the place to be! I'll definitely be back soon
They can make almost everything on the menu gluten free and the food came out with an allergy sticker on it! Plus, a dedicated fryer- the truffle fries were AMAZING! No reaction :)
The chicken here is always great. Some of the best fries I’ve had in a long time. I also appreciate the great service.
My wife is Celiac (gluten free) and never had any issues.
My whole family loves going to Silver Diner! The menu is far better than what one would typically think of as diner food, though the variety is in line. Some of my favorites include Old Bay fried shrimp, country fried steak and eggs with gravy, or a club sandwich and fries—but I'm basic. 😁 I did try my first bibimbap dish there, and it was delicious!
The seasonal chef specials always offer something interesting. They're also great about allergy awareness, with lots of gluten free options and delicious lactose free "milk" shakes.
My little kids love their Kid's Club layards (and we love earning rewards like free meals and desserts). The kids have collected dozens of the humourous novelty pins to hook on their lanyards.
Took my girlfriend for her birthday. She has Celiac. The menu options were plentiful. The food was excellent. The staff was attentive but not intrusive.
Maybe it was an off night for them but I'm not sure.
Made a reservation online for our anniversary dinner, with a comment that will need a gluten-free menus. When we got there, we couldn't hear the hostess over the music, and when we did hear her she confirmed if we needed gluten-free menus and we said yes.
When we got seated at our table, we were provided with regular menus. When our waitress finally showed up about 10 minutes later, we had to ask for the specific gluten-free menus.
Waitress was courteous but didn't see them often, only about 4 or 5 times over an hour and a half-ish we were there. We also had to specifically ask for more water. The food was fantastic. We got the GF Crispy Brussels Sprouts, which we both highly recommend getting, the GF Gnocchi Carbonara and the GF Red Wine Braised Short Ribs. Both of which were perfectly cooked.
But once again the service, from even the start, was a big let down.

I really enjoyed my food and drink. My family was not as impressed. I had an Irish coffee with a club on a gluten-free bun. The sandwich had a huge amount of turkey, and the bacon was nice and crisp. It came with a lot of chips. I needed to ask for mayo as it only came with a small smear of Dijon. One kid had the same on a pretzel bun and enjoyed his as well, but also said his was dry and added mayo. 2 kids and my husband tried the mac and cheese. They all said it was mid. It was explained as sticky and dry. It was not creamy at all. The crab mac seemed to have cheese on the top and bottom but not the middle. One kid said they tasted the crab in the mac, and the other one said they couldn't taste it at all. She barely touched her meal, and we came in hungry!
The thing that brought the rating down the most was my husband's meal. The ceasar salad did not have enough dressing to even speak on the flavor. The rack of ribs maybe had 2.5 ounces of meat. That "rack" was about as big as my husbands palm. It was one of their higher priced dishes and was totally disappointing. The barbecue sauce was an afterthought. It was smeared on and not even put back into the oven to caramelize. My husband also had some wine that he said tasted like box wine.
One kid had fish and chips. I tasted the fish. I thought it was pretty good. The batter could have been lighter. The inside was a little mushy. Kid didn't really eat his meal. He had half of his dad's mac and my chips. But that worked out. My hubby was able to substitute his lacking meal.
One kid had nachos. He enjoyed them and almost finished. This is from a kid who complains about nothing. A true gem in this world!
All in all, for the price, we felt "mom could do better." In fact, my husband said he could do better. In all fairness, I love being in the kitchen and have about 20 years of making things from scratch, but it hurts when we spend $250 and are not satisfied.
The service was great. Atmosphere was bar like. Food was only there to soak up alcohol if you had 1 too many drinks and had to beg the kitchen to turn on the fryer 30 minutes before closing.
I am so excited to have found this place! My youngest daughter is diagnosed Celiac Disease and so cannot have even the slightest bit of cross contamination in her food or she'll be sick.
On Christmas Eve I called to see if they had a dedicated gluten free fryer (my girl loves fries!). I was told no but the man, Jason, who turned out to be the GM, encouraged us to go anyway because they have such an extensive gluten free menu.
I'm glad we gave it a try! When I arrived Jason told me he decided to make a gluten free dedicated fryer in his kitchen and had already started it up to be ready for my daughter's fries!
On top of that, the staff were all lovely and the food was *amazing*!
Jason, if you see this, thank you again! It's rough for a 13 yr old with Celiac Disease; your kindness made a difference!
We will be back!!
My friend and I had a late lunch while seated at the bar today. I have celiac disease, and the bartender got me their gluten free menu and went over some menu highlights with me. He was really great and made me feel very comfortable ordering here.
Great service, great food,I love the vegan and gluten-free options. For someone allergic to wheat that also doesn't eat meat it is usually very difficult to find good food. This diner has several options for any time of day. Definitely impressed and I will definitely go back!

Great little restaurant. Great food. Had a chicken taco and a chorizo taco in corn tortilla. Both excellent. Chips were great. I wasn't a fan of the salsa buy my family gobbled it doen.easy to pay with a QR code. Fun surfing vibe. Enjoyed watching surfing on the TVs. So far so good with the gluten free for my Celiac.
This has been one of our favorite restaurants that we visit after we ski, after a day on the lake, or for special celebrations. They have food that everyone in our family can eat, including the 2 Gluten Free members of our family. We travel almost an hour to eat here and will continue to do so!
The sickest out celiac family has ever been. Has come from this place. We got the chicken enchiladas and the gf mac and cheese. I even confirmed the noodles were boiled in their own water, clearly they were not when we discovered another noodle from another dish with the food.
Sit at the bar, cozy tables, great food and service, wonderful gluten free choices, actual happy hour with great prices, make reservations for Happy Hour, order before 6pm
Salad breakfast spot! This was a great diner. I’m gluten-free and they had Paleo pancakes, which was great. They had great portion sizes as well as great tasting food! I came here after picking up my friend from the airport. It’s a very short drive from there if you are coming from or going to the airport. The service was a little bit slow, but once the food came out, it was all good. Seating was a bit limited. The two of us got a spot at the bar, but there were definitely people waiting for a while for a table.

Great service! And amazing food. Delicious masa calamari, curried mussels, and creme brulee with chocolate ganache on the bottom. Gluten free friendly.
The food and service was very good! I noticed that the menu seemed to feature green tomatoes a lot, no complaints there. Additionally, they offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. If your looking for breakfast, I highly recommend stopping by. Don't forget to check out their desserts. They don't skimp out on their cake slice portions!
We loved all the breakfast options. My wife has a gluten allergy and was able to find French toast along with many more options. I like that they had a protein pancake option along with many other healthy options for breakfast. We liked it so much we ate there two days in a row. We will eat there again when we are in town.

I'm saddened and truly bothered by my last visit. There were two places I could get crab cakes before, and now there's one. Because after coming here for years, not only did they accidentally feed me a crab cake that wasn't gluten free, the manager lied to me about what they serve, and took no accountability. And its upsetting. Because between me and the people I've had treat me to this place in the past couple of years, I've brought in thousands to Pappas. I complain one time, and I get a ridiculous response.
I visited on 5/25/25, shortly after "after hours" began (that's when I normally go). I ordered the gluten free crab cake and fries. I knew it wasn't gluten free, as I started having the reaction I have, whenever I ingest gluten. I didnt eat the second crab cake or the rest of the fries. I normally eat both, no issue. I arrived the next morning, before the store opened, to let them know what happened and get a refund. It's not like I ate the entire thing. My reaction start before digestion does, so I knew not to keep eating.
I told the manager I was having a reaction because I'm gluten intolerant, and she said they didnt have gluten in them. And she was certain because of the spice they use on the gluten free crab cakes. I said, well I'm certain I ate gluten, because I'm having the reaction. I asked could it have been the fries, being fried with food that isn't gluten free (cross contamination). This woman lied to me and told me they dont serve fried food (while we were talking about fries). From what I understand, most of the food after hours is fried.
I'm trying to understand why after coming here for years, they think that I would up and make this up. I LOVE that crab cake. But I promise I will never buy it again. To make matters worse, the manager was also gluten free. And if its for an intolerance like me, her being a woman, and knowing the reaction it causes, well its messed up for her not to care and to lie to my face like that.
DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE GLUTEN INTOLERANT; IF THEY ARENT CAREFUL AND PAYING ATTENTION LIKE THEY HAVE AT EVERY OTHER VISIT OF MINE, THEY WILL FEED YOU THE GLUTEN AND TAKE NO ACCOUNTABILITY.
At the very least, if I dont like something, I have the right to a refund. She didnt refund me for the one crab cake I did bring back. She handled this matter horribly. I'm fighting to get my money back in another way, but I shouldn't have to. I spent $70 on food I couldn't finish and that made me sick (i have the RX receiptto prove it-submitting to my bank). That is abhorrent.
*UPDATE* Attached a pic of the reply email I sent after receiving the response, which totally negates their apology and accountability. We'll see if they actually do anything.
Very cute coffee shop offering a wide variety of drinks with many substitutions. Gluten free options for pastries, alternatives for milk, and willing to accommodate any dietary restrictions. The servers were all ready and willing to take our order, and were very friendly and sweet! Shout out to Jewel for being awesome 🫶 definitely will come back when I'm in the area
Food and service was amazing. Love that our waiter remembered that my sister had a gluten allergy throughout our entire dinner! Rockfish special was SO good

My favorite item is the grilled wings. They are so delicious with a bit of smokiness, and they are gluten free (I have Celiac disease). Several other GF items including buns.

It’s hard to beat a gourmet burger with bottomless fries. I love how there are options for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. The royal red robin is my personal go to, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of their delicious burger options. From beyond meat to gluten free options- they seemingly have it all.
The staff is always friendly and while it can sometimes be a bit busy at times the tables are spread far enough apart that it is still comfortable. If you are tired of reheated drive thru meals, this is the place to go without breaking the bank.
Food was amazing, had the bison burger, highly recommend. Prices were aligned well, service was fantastic (servers name I believe was Dan). Drinks were on point and the ambiance was classy but not pretentious. They also accommodate gluten free eaters really well. Looking forward to coming back. ONLY knock was the fries, think they could have been a littler more crispy but hey thats my opinion.
The food is as good as you’d expect a decent burger joint to be. The above marks are the fact they have a huge array of items that help accommodate allergens. From tasty gluten-free buns, and dairy free milk shakes. Salina, our waitress, was great as well. They were quick and prompt and didn’t overbear themselves on “checking in with you.” Sweet, kind, and informative to our allergen and menu item questions. Thank you. You’re a reason why people like us do return time after time.
