Best Smitty’s I have ever been to! The service and food is fantastic. I have a gluten allergy (celiac) and they have a specific gluten free menu along with options on the regular menu and have never gotten sick from the food ever!! They use different coloured plates for allergens, it’s very thoughtful.
What a great place!!! The only thing better than the food is the exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff, especially Marico who seems to be there from dawn to closing and is as nice at the end of the day as he is at the beginning. A MUST if you are passing through Bad deck (even worth making a detour for a stop). AND they have an amazing gluten free selection of most of their menu!!
Asked if they had any gluten free items and they provided me with a separate menu of just gluten free items. I got fish cakes. I believe they also had a gluten free seafood chowder. Staff was nice. Outside patio is pretty small so we had to sit inside.
What a great find!! Traveling in Halifax as a family with several food intolerances, we could not have been happier with the Gluten-Free, Vegan, and dairy-free options. Cozy spot, great service, and everything was very tasty. We've been in town two nights and had dinner here twice!
Had dinner at Flavor on the water recently. Great view from this restaurant! I had salmon which perfectly cooked and tasted great. Easy gluten free dining.
Amazing food, Becka went out of her way to make it a wonderful experience especially for our daughter with Celiac. She's the best server we've had in many years. Definitely a go to spot!
Let me start by saying I knocked a star off for atmosphere because we were the only diners inside!!!
Rebecca and the team looked after us brilliantly. The food choice for gluten-free diners is really good and, for those of us that eat anything, I was in heaven!!
I failed to finish off the pizza crusts, as delicious and light as they were, as the bowl of seafood chowder I shared with my wife as a starter ended up 90% in my belly and I was a little full!! That chowder was better than any we'd ever tasted in the finest seafood restaurants in Boston or Seattle...
The pizza sauce on the Mediterranean Masterpiece (bold title, but it lived up to it) was deliciously full of depth and flavour and the distribution of toppings was perfect - every mouthful was a delight.
We are so happy we ate at Little Christo's tonight and just hope we get to eat there again in the future.
Food was delicious. Just landed today from Ireland and were on a way to lunenberg when we all suddenly were starving so we went into Vernon's. Loved it. I highly recommend the fried chicken and fries. YUMMY!!!! one of the two teenagers with me had mac n cheese and the other classic burger as well as milkshakes. There were stuffed after. I forced myself to have a gluten free cheesecake and I'm glad I did. It was gorgeous. Just under a 100 dollars for the 3 of us which I found reasonable. The food was gorgeous. I would seriously recommend to go there and try it. Might even go for round two when we are passing on way back to Halifax.
What a fantastic little cafe located in a beautiful little town. Just up from the water you’ll find the Kiwi Cafe!
As part of my Eggs Benedict Tour I’m currently on. You know what I ordered. And it was great! A little untraditional using ham and not peameal, but that’s forgivable as it tasted amazing!
The roasted potatoes as the side was great. They give you lots and they are well seasoned. I felt they could have been a little warmer, but I ate every crumb!
Easily part of the clean plate club!
I also grabbed a couple Gluten Free items from the front for a friend of mine!
Stop in, have a bite or get a coffee to go, you won’t be disappointed!
Wow, I am very impressed! The food was absolutely delicious and I already know what I will try next visit. I had the Ultimate Club with delicious Dragon fries and a blueberry blast smoothie. Food is 100% vegan and very fresh. Great atmosphere, and the ladies working were very friendly and helpful.
While I'm personally okay to eat gluten, they did have many gluten free options as well!
A truly perfect stop for coffee, brunch, and a treat! Food and service were great! Gluten free quinoa bread available!
We had the Turkey deli on the gluten free quinoa bread & a gluten free chocolate brownie! The garlic mustard seed aioli was SO good 🤤… we are thinking about it hours later. I also highly recommend the cans of carbonated water in the photos - they’re super unique flavors and really tasty when poured over ice. The purple can became my new fave!!
Cute & cozy space with simple pretty decor & art on the walls. Good for photos 💓 Helpful staff & locals happy to give trail recommendations ☺️ Everytime I do the Cabot Trail I stop into this cute little spot!
Seating both inside and outside available, large parking lot.
Fantastic! Chickpea Buffalo wrap, and the oak cake.
They have lots of vegan and gluten-free options and they are very up on dietary restrictions. They are lgbtq and trans-friendly. The service was amazing, the environment was very cozy and they have some communal seating areas where we met a very nice man.
Highly recommend this spot. Their food is amazing. All around fantastic experience
Well must say first time there with my girlfriend the waitress was just great looked after us made sure everything was as we ordered drinks food etc Im gluten-free and its one of the best pizzas ive had i took extra sauce and its very good sauce.
We both loved it.
Vacationing from Vancouver B.C. and fancied a nosh whilst touring around N.S.
I'm also celiac and this place has many options!! I was more than thrilled to see this on the menu!
Baked Brie w/gf crackers was delicious 😋
The staff are very friendly and super helpful with directions.
Also, they serve a generous cup of coffee!
Definitely check it out if you're in the area 👍
Thank you!
The workers are always super friendly and helpful with any questions, the food never disappoints and the gluten free food is great and safe for celiac’s (I have celiac) always a 10/10 no matter the time of day!
I went to this restaurant for a Deaf event. One of the servers new sign language and was able to serve the deaf people adequately and charismatically. As a gluten-free person, I had a delicious haddock taco and didn't feel the gluten-free options were any less delicious than the regular options! Prices are high, but fair for the overall experience. Will definitely be returning.
This is the best place to eat after exploring Peggy's Cove lighthouse. My family loves the roasted chicken, fish and chips, and the gluten free chocolate torte.
A quirky, fun neighbourhood coffee shop packed full of character! Decor and atmosphere were on point, and I loved every little detail. The gluten-free options were very tasty as well!
We recently visited the Dill Pickle Sandwich Bar and Cafe - choosing it because their menu offered gluten-free options—important for someone in our group who has celiac. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations.
The interior could definitely use a bit of attention—it felt a little tired and didn’t offer the warm, welcoming vibe we were hoping for. That said, our server was friendly and did her best to accommodate us.
After placing our order, we were told there was no gluten-free bread available. The staff offered to run out and buy some, which we appreciated in theory, but at that point the other meals were already being prepared and insulin had been taken—so waiting or leaving wasn’t a realistic option. Our gluten-free diner had to pick something else on the fly.
As a Monte Cristo fan, I ordered it expecting the usual rich, indulgent sandwich. Instead, it was a basic ham-and-cheese on French toast—just one slice of each, with none of the heft or flavor the dish is typically known for.
The coffee setup is self-serve, which isn’t a problem, but it would’ve been nice to be told that instead of just being handed an empty cup.
I brought up the gluten-free issue with the owner at the end, and while she did agree to remove that meal from the bill, the conversation felt a bit tense. Our server, to her credit, apologized again and remained kind throughout.
There’s potential here, and I don’t doubt the staff care—but between the atmosphere, food execution, and dietary oversight, it just didn’t quite hit the mark for us this time.
A hidden treasure we just happened to find. Great place to meet up with friends in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. The service was amazing, and the food was excellent. My husband has celiac, and not only did he have gluten-free choices on the menu, he really enjoyed the food. Best of all, he didn't have any negative reactions. We'll definitely be going back whenever we're on Halifax.
My fiance and I often frequent this place since it's so close to home. We try to go early in the evening to avoid the crowds, since it can, and it will, get very loud in there. And, they close pretty early, considering they're a pub. I appreciate that there's gluten free options, and I've never had an issue with it actually being GF. But the food can be hit or miss. Occasionally, the burgers will be burnt, other times, they'll be perfect. Sometimes the Spinach dip is soupy, other times, it's heavenly. The fish can be great, other times, it's cold. But the staff are always great to us, and we've never had an issue with our service. I thoroughly enjoy the cocktails (the peachy tea is my favourite!) and my fiance sometimes enjoys his beer - once again, hit or miss.
As a person with celiac disease, it’s hard to come across safe places for me to eat. I was pleasantly surprised to find Vines come up suggested for gluten free options. I decided to check it out with a friend of mine for supper yesterday and felt the experience was above and beyond what I anticipated! They seemed knowledgeable when I asked about gluten containing items such as sauces, and double checked with the kitchen to make sure. Mostly everything on their menu is able to be modified to be celiac friendly. I had the Cajun fettuccine and it was so delicious and flavourful! Was also pleasantly surprised when then came out with some warm gluten free bread and butter as I was not expecting to be that accommodated at all. Also had their peach sangria and it was very very tasty! I will definitely be returning to try some other menu items and am happy to recommend to fellow celiacs ☺️
The interior is beautiful, romantic enough, cozy, but the light is too dim for me (but this is my subjective opinion).
Location - the restaurant is located in the down town, i.e. in the city center, which, unfortunately, means the absence of its own parking lot and you have to look for it, and it is paid even on weekends.
Food - not very many, in fact, menu items if we are talking about the main dishes. There are few gluten-free dishes, which, for example, was a problem for us. We had to order soup and salad because we have restrictions on the types of meat we can eat and therefore, actually, vegetarian soup is all we could order. It was delicious, I have no complaints, but it's still a pity that there is such a limited selection of gluten-free meat dishes.
We ordered tea and I liked that the tea cup was warm (despite the fact that it was empty), and the tea was served separately in a teapot).
Service - everything here was top notch, the girl who served us was as attentive as possible, she knew the menu and the composition of the dishes well, she could tell us what dishes we could order, taking into account the restrictions we had.
But still, I deducted one star. I was out of paper towels. As always, in the restaurant there is a cloth napkin in which the cutlery is wrapped and which we put on our laps when we eat, but I cannot wipe my lips, for example, with that napkin, for this I need paper ones, but they were not on the table and no one offered . This is my humble opinion, it was uncomfortable for me. Well, the shortcomings of the menu that I wrote about above also played a role in the evaluation.
And in general, I can recommend this place, we liked it.
I wish this place had a more authentic Venezuelan decore but besides that its perfecto!! The Empanadas are super yummy and gluten free, in fact all the food is I believe. Great service and amazing owners and definitely a must reccomend when visiting the Waterfront of Halifax.
Folks are over excited about beer batter, but letting that go, get the gluten free version fish and chips! Also nachos were nice, and the salmon platter came with well made soda bread. Nice crust
Solid pour of Guinness, what more can I ask for!
I love good coffee and they serve good coffee. I like to think that, if you like good coffee too, this statement will encourage you to go and enjoy the coffee. Seating was a challenge and there's only one bathroom that I could locate so be prepared because it's a popular place. There was even a gluten free donut my partner could enjoy. Just go for the coffee and see what fortune befalls you.
We went twice during our short stay in Little Narrows. The seafood chowder is the absolute BEST! And desserts are fantastic. Nice that they had a good assortment of gluten free options. Friendly atmosphere and great food brought us back. Wish I could give more stars.🙂
Sweet family-owned place to stop for a bite to eat. They have a lovely little bakery full of homemade sweets, and a restaurant with some great German dishes. They also have gluten free options, which I greatly appreciated.
A word of advice for anybody going, they do charge extra for credit card. Since they're a small business, they get charged for every credit card fee, so, to subsize that fee for themselves, they add a fee to your bill if you pay by credit card. So, if you can, use debit or cash - and you won't be charged extra.

Second time dining with Kim! Always lovely, efficient, & helpful when it comes to dietary restrictions.
It’s been a game changer to have so many gluten free breakfast options at this location.
I have to say, I called just on the off chance they would have something I could eat (allergic to gluten) and low & behold, they have gluten free pitas, salads, vegan falafel, bean things, etc. So many options! I had to get 2 things for myself cuz I was so surprised & wanted to try a pita AND a salad. Lol. So good! The staff is friendly & the guy I spoke to was fun & made sure the crew took care of me 😃 I'll be frequenting this place when I'm in town!
My husband and I are on holiday here in NS. I am gluten-free and he is not. It's tough to find tasty food for both of us, that's safe for me to eat. Union Street had both! Great experience, friendly people and would definitely recommend it!
