Born out of her parents’ kitchen in Milford late-2012 Lisa Ludwinski has earned national recognition at Sister Pie, the story of hard-work and triumph as “blue collar” as Detroit itself though the corner lot on Kercheval Avenue remains humble even now.
Built on loans, grants and friendship, plus a 24-hour dance marathon in 2015, guests entering Sister Pie will quickly note a sizable workspace filled with women, many taking time to greet patrons or offer suggestions of items tucked away on a table behind glass.
Willing to take a stance on environmental issues and workers’ rights, a no-tipping policy utilized to assure equality in pay plus biodegradable packaging and composting a priority, choices change daily but always include Cookies such as the Wheat-free Buckwheat Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Golden Raisin and smoky-smooth Peanut Butter Paprika.
Not forgetting a “Sandwich Cookie” that looks like two bite-sized Biscuits around Buttercream, a favorite recommended by friends who’ve taken one of Lisa’s baking classes, suffice it to say Sister Pie’s “From Another Galaxy Brownie” lives up to its name while being both gluten-free and vegan while the Strawberry Cornmeal Scone was an edible snapshot of late-Summer.
Obviously not forgetting some eponymous slices, two of four available this day, Salted Maple spins Canada’s classic beautifully on an all-Butter Crust while The Banana Pete puts a mountain of Meringue and crumbled Cookies on a Banana Custard base.
First time going, and I did not make a reservation. We were able to snag two seats at the bar after about 30 minutes. Definitely recommend making a reservation, if you can. The service was great! The server was very friendly. The gluten-free pancakes were awesome! I got the half size, which was definitely enough food.

The food was great. We went there for Sunday brunch and it is hard to talk since it was very noisy. The server was very kind and tell us which ones are gluten free.
I have celiac so finding a place that understands how to prepare GF foods is important. They were well educated, had several options, and everyone was so kind!
We had breakfast and coffee and it was delicious. Will definitely return again when in the area!
Thank you for doing gluten free right so that patrons can trust your food!
Atmosphere was amazing, such a cool place. Unfortunately my filet was WAY overcooked, shells in the lobster bisque, and cocktails were all sickly sweet. Still a good experience but for such an amazing location I would hope for a better dining experience. Also some confusion about gluten free options which left me nervous as someone with Celiac but luckily I ate the filet, bisque, and Panna Cotta and was fine after.

Love the Lager House, Sam is an awesome bartender and the food selection is uniquely extensive for the area. I highly recommend the crispy tofu! They also have gluten free and vegan options
My wife and I have been here several times and it never disappoints! The Chopped Salad and Roasted Chicken are amazing and having gluten free options is a must for us! Ynocencio served us drinks this last time. His drinks, presentation, and humor were all on point! We can’t wait to go back!
Super cute and peaceful atmosphere. The service was great. My gluten-free sandwich was delicious. I just ran here on lunch, but I plan to bring my husband and kiddo soon.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I appreciate the attention to detail. Thank you for providing a safe gluten free meal-the pasta was spectacular and thank you for avoiding cross-contamination by using separate water and colander.

Didn’t have grilled nuggets in stock, and we were looking for a gluten-friendly meal. We usually would come here before our flight to get a light meal, so was very disappointed.
I’ve gotten crepes many times from The French Cow and I’ve NEVER been disappointed! The traditional process is fascinating to watch. The various crepes that they offer are phenomenal, including gluten free!!!! I can’t say enough positive things about this business because you can feel and see that they genuinely love what they do. Honorable mention for Carly. She always makes my crepes with such love. She’s also a rockstar when things get super busy. MVP!! My family and I will always be returning customers.
Great breakfast food at decent prices. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and portions we're just right. Lots of healthy options like gluten free, nut free, vegan, and vegetarian. Small seating area so it might be a little wait if it's busy.
Portions are generous, and there are options for various dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. Overall, it's a solid choice for a quick and satisfying Mexican-inspired meal.
We had an amazing dinner. The food is consistently high quality. The service can be a bit slow sometimes but the servers are knowledgeable, friendly and always very accommodating with dietary restrictions. Our server this time was incredible and made really great food and drink recommendations. My partner has celiac’s and we’ve never had any issues, they’re always very careful to talk to the kitchen. Highly recommend the sea bass and lamb shank. Beautiful decor and ambiance.
If the name wasn’t good enough, they have the best almond orange tea and a wonderful array of vegan and gluten free lunch options. I had the BBQ jackfruit sandwich on gluten free bread and it was delicious. The staff are always helpful and friendly. It’s a quiet subterranean tea den where I love to station up and get some work done.

My new favorite breakfast spot! I’ve been coming here for years, but they upgraded their restaurant and the ambiance is hard to beat now. I love this place so very much! The service is welcoming, friendly and always helpful and the breakfast and coffee are delicious and all for about $5.00! It’s everything a neighborhood needs, a vibrant supermarket and restaurant all in one. They even accommodate to all dietary needs offering gluten free and vegan options to boot!
I am gluten-free but not Celiac. They have a few (3-4) pastries that are gluten-free (unsure of the cross contamination status). Most of them were chocolate, which I am also allergic to. So, I wasn't able to get anything to eat. The staff was super nice and I'd love to go again if I lived in Detroit. I had the Genmaicha (green tea with rice toasted into it). It tastes very good, more earthy, and I needed quite a bit of simple syrup. When exiting, I decided to buy the lavender heart meringues because those were also gluten free. They also tasted a bit earthy in addition to the flavoring, but it turns out I don't like meringue anyways so I may be biased. There wasn't a lot of parking in front of the store. About 6-8 parallel parking spots for $1 per hour. Luckily I got a spot, but there weren't many left. There are more spots across the street.
Astoria has delectable pastries and treats that are sure to satisfy most! Gluten-free options are hard to come by, but that is not surprising given they are a pastry shop.
They were out of so many items on the menu. The servers were super rude to customers. They have gluten free dairy free options but the servers didn’t seem knowledgeable at all.
I would not recommend.
It was really nice to have a quick window option for breakfast that wasn’t a fast food chain while in Detroit. I love how they give you the option to use hashbrowns as your bread option if you’re looking for a gluten free sandwich. It was delicious! My partner got the breakfast burrito and it was a little on the small side but very dense!
Great to find gluten free food at Detroit airport.
Friendly staff.
Decent prices in an airport.
Small restaurant with few seats.
Staff had little time for cleaning of tables.
Located in the block north of the Detroit institute of arts. This breakfast, brunch place has a string breakfast menu and includes vegan and some gluten free options. Omelets, skillets, wraps, salads, burgers, pancakes and alcoholic and non drinks like lavender lemonade, or lavender gin. Variety of coffees and teas plus desserts is on the menu. Good service made it easy for our large group to eat here. Yes a 20%gratuity was added to our bill but our service was stellar so we tipped more
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, and our server Billy the Kid was just perfect! He helped us getting a gluten free option for my wife and some additional cranberry jam for the turkey that was STRONGLY appreciated :) a really joyful experience and an show of professionalism - we will for sure be back!
SPECTACULAR!! Never have i started eating and immediately thought to write a review. Amazing, awesome, filling, and big portions! I had the 3 tacos dinner it’s $10 something and I’m a big boy but it filled me right up! Staff was super helpful and friendly! My wife has food allergies (gluten-free) and they were super helpful! Al Pastor, chorizo, and Carnitas were my tacos of choice and holy moly they were delicious! 10 stars if I could!
I love the decor of the building, my friend said it reminds her of Harry Potter lol. I had the gluten free vegan chicken sandwich and it was amazing. It was on the expensive side, but it was worth it.
Great little taco place. Not must seating, so don't expect a full blown restaurant experience. This is definitely more of a take out kind of place.
The loaded fries were incredible. The steak on them was seasoned perfectly, and there was some seasoning added to the cheese sauce that tasted incredible. Maybe chipotle or adobo? Not sure really.
The crunchy flour shells were cooked perfectly.
They were unfortunately out of corn shells, which made ordering gluten free a bit more difficult, but the fajitas without shells was perfect for her.
First time coming here and not only was the food Beyond excellent, but they accommodate people that have gluten and dairy allergies. You might have to wait a little bit because the food is cooked to order but trust me when I tell you it is worth the wait! What is awesome about this little secret in Redford you would never know it's there if you drove right by it.. you wouldn't even see it. But when you go inside you feel at home. The food like I said was awesome! But what really did it for me was they cook their food with love. And they made sure that they got every detail correct on the order. Something more restaurants should take note of. Listen to the customer you might learn something. I would definitely suggest this place if you're in the area. We were in town to see the meet and greet with William Shatner and the Redford theater. It was really nice to stop into a local establishment and have such a great experience. Will definitely come here again with the wife. Thanks again guys. Kenneth keep up the great work!

Angel K LIES!!!!! but yes maybe because she likes donut shaped cupcakes. Donuts ARE NOT supposed to have the same texture as a dried out cake. Ashe was looking for some bland gluten free things that LOOK LIKE donuts. There is NO PLACE better than Dutch Girl
