Went here yesterday for my sister’s bday. Ordered scrambled egg on toast. It arrived like slop on the plate. Had been done in a microwave and hadn’t been scrambled. Toast was on the side and not buttered with no butter alongside. Completely tasteless. The only thing that saves it is the lovely waitress who was really nice and the gluten free caramel cake which was delicious. Won’t be back though as overpriced and too rustic for my taste.
If you're Gluten Free, go to the other Singl-end in Garnethill. Merchant City say that they're Coeliac friendly and have GF-available on dishes, but when you order those dishes Gluten Free they then say they have to take a lot of ingredients out. Which would be fine, except when we went the chef refused to do the swaps saying it would be too much work.
So despite what my previously excellent experience of Singl-end was (from going to the Garnethill branch), do NOT go to Merchant City if you have Coeliac.
My family stopped here almost immediately after arriving in Glasgow for the first time. We were exhausted from a long flight, barely standing! The Willow Tea Rooms brought us back to life - it’s rare all of us to enjoy something at the same time, but this won everyone over. Absolute heaven. I got the gluten free traditional afternoon tea and my partner got the savory tea. Our son ate all of his ham and cheese sandwich, which is rare, as he’s very picky. Thrilled with our experience, will be back!
This place was fantastic, got the last table available for breakfast. They have a full gluten free menu which covered just about everything I could want. I ate a mushroom Benedict which was delicious. Staff super helpful and friendly.
Update on an earlier post. This time we dined in the Bath Street entrance version. Saturday lunchtime. Restaurant was very busy yet staff pleasant and helpful, willing to chat and discuss the menu options for a Coeliac member of our party. I was surprised another of the party had a dairy allergy which added to the complications of menu discussion.
Starters arrived, looked and tasted great.
My own main course a Pizza infernale was huge and delicious. Much better than the cardboard box variety from supermarkets. One of the main reasons for going out for a meal. Properly cooked stuff from professionals.
Other members of the party joined in with the delicious notation. Chicken wrapped in ham, summer salad, garlic bread extras shared about the table.
We enjoyed the meal and the chat. The atmosphere was very good too. The only issue as the restaurant was very busy, it was also loud and at time the discussions went unanswered or we missed the point in the story.

Julia was SO lovely, Kind, and helpful. Very helpful with allergy information as I have celiacs disease, and helped me feel safe eating. The food was delightful
We had a very tasty lunch, and the service was excellent. Sid in particular was very knowledgeable about allergens. Great selection of gluten and dairy free food/drink choices. Would definitely come back :)
BEST gluten-free, locally owned tea and pastry shop I’ve ever seen. The only place I’ve ever found gluten-free scones and they’re incredible. All of the sandwiches we had were lovely, and the tea pots are all unique and clearly a curation of a true collection. Amazing staff and cute, quaint shop with restrooms, water, etc. A must visit if you’re GF and or vegan!
Food was delicious, really good gluten free and vegan options. One item was incorrectly marked gluten free on the menu but the staff were quick to correct it.
We were Glutened !!
I am diagnosed celiac and my husband is Gluten intolerant..we visited this cafe and ordered 2 Gluten free cheese burgers.
The lady taking our order was not English and we had trouble communicating with her...we were told the chips were not gluten free which was fair enough so went ahead with the 2 cheese burger orders.
We were then approached by another staff member who told us they could not provide 2 cheese burgers but we could have two chicken burgers instead also as we had paid for the fries which we could not have they told us they would replace the fries with two soups.
The meal was ok.....chicken burgers were not nice they were cheap reformed chicken deep fried frozen chicken steaks in a brioche bun..
Two hours after this meal i was physically sick from ingesting gluten and my husband suffered for three days with abdominal pain from also ingesting gluten.
We don't know which part of the meal contained the gluten and we are certain there was gluten in some of our meal.
This was not some cross contamination issue this was us eating food that was not gluten free going off our symptoms...
Will not be visiting again and celiac/gluten intolerant sufferers beware of the gluten free food offered in this cafe.
Amazing place with super delicious food made all the more special by it's super friendly staff. Michael was absolutely amazing, so attentive and extremely helpful. Loved the gluten free options.
Great customer service from Frank. I only came in to enquire about gluten free products and left buying an array of muffins. The store was clean and inviting. I would be back purely on the customer service.
Absolutely fantastic brunch spot in East Glasgow!
Dog friendly, which is a big plus these days.
The space isn't massive but they also haven't crammed everything in, so you don't feel claustrophobic. Lovely high ceilings, big windows, and they've kept some original decor from the tenement days.
The service was fantastic and the staff was absolutely lovely. Attentive but not invasive in any way!
The food itself was nothing short of phenomenal. My husband had a sweet potato and harissa soup to start with fresh sourdough - expertly done!
He then had the pastrami sandwich and myself the Turkish shakshuka with gluten free bread. (I opted for the fried potatoes too because I'm only lightly intolerant). The shakshuka was super tasty and a great portion. Personally I prefer my shakshuka a bit more saucy/pureed and less whole roasted veg but that's just a personal preference. I also asked for some garlic yogurt which just topped the lot off perfectly.
The coffee was also really nice, I had an iced double espresso with oat milk and caramel. It shouldn't be difficult to get a nice iced coffee but I often find myself lacking. Not here though, perfectly balanced and you could tell the espresso was perfect as well.
Overall we had a lovely little brunch, a good chat with our server, and some leftovers we're eating as we speak! Can't recommend enough and can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes!
We loved the purrple cat cafe🖤😻 This is our third visit back and would recommend visiting to anyone who gets the chance. The atmosphere is lovely and I'm so grateful for the gluten free options available for food. We hope to visit again on our next trip back to Glasgow so thank you for another great experience!
Very nice place! Was greeted warmly by the kind, welcoming hostess and server, Mandeep. The coffee hit the spot as did the "Oh So Heavenly American Waffle"--even both vegan and gluten-free! Everything was very delicious! The atmosphere lovely, the yummy food and drinks beautifully presented... an all-around very recommendable place to eat breakfast, afternoon coffee, dessert, etc.!!
Attended today with 2 wheelchair users. Very accommodating and advised have ordered a ramp so that access over the ~4inch threshold into the restaurant is easier to access next time. Accommodating for gluten free member of the party.
Overall great experience.
Man with beard very friendly and welcoming. He went above and beyond to accommodate us.
Great wee find. Food made fresh to order. Cakes look amazing. Gluten-free options which is a big bonus. Excellent customer service. Can't wait to return.
Nice, cozy place with extra space upstairs. Good choice of teas and coffees, breakfast and lunch menu are both available and affordable. Vegan and gluten-free items included, good selection of scones and cakes. Nice personnel, quick service. Dog-friendly!
Gluten free options was our priority for husband, and he was very happy with his gluten free bread, bacon, eggs and beans.
I had the Scottish breakfast which was lovely.
They do gluten free soup also, which we haven't yet tasted, but hope to.
Not posh nosh' but good food in a homely cafe with very helpful staff.
Wow! What a great find. Received a voucher for Xmas and today 4 of us went for brunch. The menu was varied, suitable for veggies, vegan and gluten free. It was delicious and we’ve already decided we will be back very soon…and what’s more they do doggie birthday party’s.
Really nice meal we had today, my partner is Celiac and they really made an effort to accommodate her, the food was delicious, and they clearly make everything fresh which really shows. Also the Syrian coffee they serve is amazing. Definitely a cut above your regular café food.
Very nice place, good organic range and gluten free range.
Baskets could do with a clean.
Staff ws not very knowledgeable about products, was looking for buckwheat flower which they said they don't stock, but I found it on the shelves.
Apart from that I was impressed by the overall size and layout of store and the range.
Ordered 2 takeaway slices this evening and they were both delicious! Excellent place for coeliacs as the gluten free pizzas are cooked in a separate area/oven to avoid any cross contamination. Staff were super friendly and helpful and the pizza had a great flavour and texture - the white pizza with potato was incredible! And they have ranch! Looking forward to dining in next time as the atmosphere inside was really great too 😃
what a fantastic find in glasgow today! amazing vegan menu full of diverse choices, i ordered the tofu fish & chips and garlic bread, my mum ordered the vegan sausage & chips and my sister ordered chicken nuggets - all vegan and irresistibly delicious! 6 chicken nuggets and lots of chips, perfect portion. garlic bread was just the right amount of garlicy and tasted so good. you get a free bottle of tap water which is lovely. the atmosphere is comfy and homey, staff are welcoming and really kind. the record shop inside the cafe is cute and had a wonderful selection of dvds, cds, cassettes and vinyls. the cafe is clean, tidy and beautifully decorated with plants and artwork galore. there are 2 fab vintage clothing shops outside of the cafe too which have really great clothing up for sale, so theres something to do after/before the cafe! i (as well as my mum & sister) really really enjoyed our lunch today, can’t recommend this place enough if you like yummy vegan & gluten free food!
Fantastic food from stews to sandwiches and scones to gateaux!
A friendly team and great vibe make it a firm favourite! The gluten free and veggie options are a revelation. Check this place out just wish I lived closer.
Best brunch in Glasgow! Loads of gluten free options, or alterations to make it gf. Had the avo toast with eggs & the flavor was amazing! Also, that bacon…fantastic!
Perfect! Amazing food, coffee drinks and freshly made smoothies. We are gluten free and the options were great (they make their own gluten free bread). The Florentine egg bake was to die for! The Italian sandwich was also excellent with high quality meats and cheese- served with a fresh salad and unique little potato salad. The whole staff was lovely and very friendly too! We were so lucky to find this place!

I visited Ottoman Coffeehouse today and was so impressed with the beautiful decor, warm and welcoming environment and delicious coffee. They have an array of lovely cakes and pastries, many of which are plant based and gluten free. The almond croissant I ordered arrived warm which was a lovely touch. The staff were very friendly, and gifted me a slice of cake for my birthday!
I can’t wait to go back and try more from their menu.

Another awesome brunch at Beefcake. I had the most delicious shakshuka with feta and gluten free toast and my partner, the fabulous roll with everything. Relaxed but attentive service from a very young accolyte who coped well with my single shot cappuccino and my partner's request that his food and tea arrive together. Our third visit, probably the best yet. If only the sun shone on their side of the street, it would have been six stars 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
We went to the one on Ingram street and it was lovely. Highly recommend!
It’s nice for an independent coffee shop. It had 2 gluten free cake options (strawberry slice or raspberry brownie, both looked nice). My decaf mocha was lovely! But my mums Cappuccino was very basic and she said they could’ve added even some chocolate sprinkles on it for a little something extra - this of course is preference!
The strawberry slice was amazing for gluten free - it was just the right taste and textures and it was like summer. So nice to eat! Very refreshing
The place itself is nice, and is good for a quick sit down to have a coffee and cake - especially to support independent cafes! It is definitely better than Starbucks or Costa.
There are no gluten free options for sandwhiches etc… so bare that in mind. Only a few cake choices!
Would go back again, the staff were lovely:)
The pizza dough was delicious but the "cheese" topping spoiled it. I had a vague memory of The Glad going fully vegan from a couple of years ago, but that was only about five minutes after they'd started doing pizzas and I wasn't sure if they'd changed again, as the menu simply offered pizza with "sausage" and "cheese" while the specials board listed "fish cakes". Why pretend it's something it isn't? It's peculiar because I imagine a place like this would have no problem highlighting if a dish had gluten or nuts in it, but I am none the wiser what the bizarre mimicry of Red Leicester that my pizza was covered in - or my friend's fake fish cakes - consisted of.
Cappuccino with coconut milk was rich and delicious. Gluten-free millionaires shortbread disappeared faster than you can say, "gluten-free millionaires shortbread". Great service from lovely relaxed but skilled staff. Great setting including outdoors seating in sun/ shade.
best gluten free bread i’ve ever had!! just wish they’d have it specified on the menu as an option because i didn’t know until i asked. genuinely SO good!!
Amazing cake, taste adorable, service is amazing and very kind must visit if you are in Glasgow city center they have gluten free options and eggless too
