I adored everything about this place. I arrived around 9:45am and there was a bit of a line in total I waited about 25 minutes to get inside. It is helpful to look at the menus while in line and know what you want once inside the bake shop. I had the strawberry rhubarb croissant a French toast flavored ice coffee and a macaroon and ginger and molasses cookie to go. The croissant and coffee were delicious and flavorful and were perfect for my walk around town. The inside of the establishment is clean and well decorated the staff are extremely friendly and pack everything beautifully. Later in the day I had my cookies and they were flavorful the ginger and molasses was listed as gluten friendly. This is a must try place if in mystic. I wanted to see the rooftop but it was closed for a private event.
Food and service were fantastic. I got the breakfast burrito and added a hasbrown inside of it. The thing was massive and very good. All wait staff was very nice. Coffee was great too. Classic old school diner look and feel. Glad to see they have multiple Gluten Free options + sourdough bread too.
Food is always good with a great drink selection of wine and cocktails. Shout out to our server Trevor who was very personable and knowledgeable. He customized a bourbon drink for me that was VERY good. Their in house Gluten Free pasta is highly enjoyed too. We will be back again soon.
I have had both good & bad experiences here. Some things are definitely GF but the menu isn't marked & language barriers make communication difficult. Love the food but risky for people with allergies.
So delicious!! I had the bigger one of the warm lobster rolls and it was amazing. The lobster was so
Good and there was so much of it!! I also have a gluten allergy and they had gluten free rolls and both the chowders were gluten free! Definitely recommend!!
The food was so good we went back the next morning. My son said they have the best gluten free French toast he's ever had.
The maple chorizo skillet and Cinnamon bun pancakes are both amazing.
Late edit: Earlier before we got food we mentioned to the chef my son loves his French toast and that we came back for it even though we're from out of town. Right before we left the chef came over and gave us some of the bread they use for their French toast so we could make it at home.
If I could give above 5 stars I would.
Staff was friendly. Food was delicious. Had one of their specialty drinks and loved it. Excellent wine selection. They accommodated my gluten free needs and clearly mark the menu as to which meals can be made gluten free.
Wonderful dinner at Chapter 1. We almost did not get to go because the Open Table app said we were wait listed. Our group went from 6 to 4, so checked the app and we were able to get a table at 5:30. When we arrived at 5:15, the place only had people in the bar. It did not get "busy" until we were leaving. The manager was amazing and said ALWAYS call the restaurant if you can't get a time, there may be a chance they may be able to accommodate. Scallop Risotto was made gluten free and a 10/10. Roasted Cod was made gluten and dairy free and 10/10. Fish and Chips 10/10 * and they use* REAL* onions in the onion rings . Chapter 1 Bolognese was the only bust as no meat was seen and was lacking flavor. The chocolate dessert and cheese cake were 10/10, cocktails were great. Miranda and all other staff we interacted with were amazing. They appear to only have high top tables, so it was a little challenging for an elderly parent.
Clean , friendly and the managers are wonderful. Chipotle, as a company bugs me in that the promo codes always seem to not work, no matter what. only, app only, in-store, inside, outside, upside down, you can't seem to get them to be accepted. The managers make things "right". Freya, an employee in Groton, makes going there a joy with her friendliness and being ready to serve and serving well. The owners take pride in their franchise ownership and that too, is to be commended. People make mistakes, and yes, I know things have changed since the original owner of Chipotle sold out, but this establishment has stayed true, as much as possible to the original business motto and model. Oh, and they do the Gluten-free prep in their manual well, I know we watch every time. Thank you, local Chipotle.
We wanted to update our review since we have been back 2x now since last week. Service is great, it’s is slow because they have a full house and 2-3 people tops running around looking frantic, lost and overwhelmed. We have been lucky to catch live music each time we have came, we have also been “lucky” to catch the busiest nights and understaffed nights. When I wrote the original review I was thirsty and hungry, and I took my frustrations out on our young server. I decided to update our review once it posted and we could try it out again now that we understand all of this town is understaffed and overwhelmed. Next time we come down with our boat we will chose a better week.
Everything about this place is perfect. The tap list is incredibly large. Large Cocktail books, huge portions, and gluten free options. My wife enjoyed the cheese board and the wings. I preferred the burgers over the fish tacos. The bartenders are knowledgeable friendly and funny. We have sat outside twice but we always find ourself at the bar by the end of the night for a nightcap. I was also able to compensate the bartender for the bracelets and purchase a fun t shirt for our daughter back home. We will be back before we hit the waters.
We stopped in during a weekend trip to Mystic, it was the best food and drinks we had while in town, as well as fantastic service. Cienna, our server was so awesome, hospitable, knowledgeable of nearby fun and of her menu, and skilled in her craft. The margaritas were the best in Mystic (and trust me, I tried most of them!) and the food was delicious. I am gluten free and they made sure to be careful with my food and I left without even a stomachache.
Little small business wood fired pizza. Honestly, I've had Modern Apizza in New Haven, which is rated #1 in the country, and The Rolling Tomato blows them out of the water. The gluten-free option is also top-notch. Give them a try!!
All their pho is gluten free :-) The lady who took my order seemed like she really cared to make sure my order was safe for me as I have celiac. I really appreciated that, thank you! Wonderful meal, I will be back.
I am giving Ortega's five stars because of the following. Small place in a small town in a very friendly homely atmosphere and hot warm tasty food. What else do you need for a five stars. Please need not be fancy but if it addresses all of the above then that is my best place. Whenever I am driving down the i-95 corridor I make sure I stop by here for lunch. My favorite as a gluten-free diet is the skirt steak rice and beans. Can't beat that
Small brewery with a nice, industrial-chic atmosphere. Every time I have gone, they've had at least one or two ciders, so far always local and always good. Needing a gluten free option allows me to enjoy a brewery with friends without feeling left out. The Mystic Cheese Company is right next door and will put together a charcuterie board to enjoy with your chips and beverage, which the nice staff at Beer'd encourage! Parking is easy and sitting outside isn't too bad since it's at the end of a dead-end street, so there's no traffic. Definitely worth a try and a great way to support a local business.
