BEST PLACE FOR GLUTEN FREE/VEGAN FINE DINING!!! Super fancy, absolutely delicious, amazing atmosphere with the live musicians. My fiance and I were swooning over how luxurious our anniversary dinner was. Its been a long time since we've found a place that meets our dietary restrictions AND makes us feel like we had a real fancy night out. Cannot recommend this place enough. Also, try the silk route feast! Its worth every penny!!🤤

East is East is hands-down one of the most unique and soulful dining experiences you’ll find in the city. From the moment you walk in, you’re enveloped by the cozy, bohemian vibe—dim lighting, live music, and aromatic spices drifting from the kitchen. The décor and ambiance transport you somewhere between Istanbul and Kathmandu.
I highly recommend the “Chai Feast”—a rotating selection of dishes from across the Silk Road served tapas-style. Every bite is rich, layered, and made with love. Personal standouts: the Afghan eggplant, lamb kebabs, and the mango butternut squash stew. And don’t miss their house chai—refillable, spiced to perfection, and served with a smile.
The staff are warm and knowledgeable, and the entire experience feels like you’re a guest in someone’s beautifully curated home. Whether you’re a meat-eater, vegan, or gluten-free, there’s something flavorful and nourishing here for you.
This isn’t just dinner—it’s a cultural experience. Perfect for date night, out-of-town visitors, or when you just need a warm soul-hug in the form of food.
Extremely helpful staff. They discussed with me what options are really safe and which ones aren’t. I wanted to order something that was only gluten free but made in the same fryer, however, the friendly staff made it possible to do it in a separate fryer
We have been going to Asian’s with our family for years and it is the closest we have found to a UK curry in Vancouver - which is a huge compliment as the best curry restaurants in the world are in the UK!
Chef Rick has been in this business for over 45 years and he makes everyone feel welcome. All dishes are freshly prepared. He is there early every day prepping all the ingredients. For diabetics it is particularly good - he does not use sugar but instead does magic with onions to introduce a sweetness. This makes the butter chicken the best ever. I can eat here without the food spiking my blood sugars at all - as long as I don’t stuff in too much Nan!
The Tandoori mix grill is the best I have had. Mushroom matter is a favorite as is Lamb Sag. Did I mention the butter chicken!
He often gives our grandkids a box of home made sweets to go. Gluten free options available and ample free parking on the street outside.
I have noticed that Prices have not gone up since before COVID - go along as you won’t be disappointed.
We where served so well by the staff esp Ashwanth. The food was awesome and gluten free allergy was well taken care off. Highly recommend for ambience and Tasty Indian food.
Wonderful vegan thali platter! Every dish on the platter is delicious and unique. We always order extra roti as it only comes with one piece. It’s a great spot for sharing dishes and they can accommodate larger groups.
They also offer lots of gluten free options, and the celiac person in our group felt accommodated and felt good after eating (they are obviously careful with cross-contamination).
If you have Celiac you should avoid this place. I was looking forward to trying the Samosa’s here as I called in and was told they are prepared seperately. I had the samosa’s with chickpeas, the samosa’s themselves tasted greated however I had a reaction right after eating here.
If you have celiac I would avoid eating here as there is some sort of cross contamination happening.
Excellent food and service. They were very accommodating and attentive to my toddler we brought with us. Almost the entire menu is gluten free.
Best eggplant I've ever had. The garlic Naan bread was that great combo of fluffy but still crispy and well flavored. Paneer stir fry was very tasty. We skipped dessert but our mango lassi/moi during the meal was already a treat. Highly recommend it.
Parking is a bit annoying with the small lot but we found a nearby side street to park on.
Lovely restaurant with excellent service. I like that they have vegan and gluten free options well marked on the menu. Rice isn't included with the curry dishes so make sure to order it extra. I found the rice servings quite small, but the main curry dish servings are generous. The main dishes come in containers with candles under them which keeps them nice and hot!
Pretty good portion on the dosas if you get their Dosa of the day. I like the lamb on Tuesdays. Pretty fast at in-between times (non-dinner time) when they are quite empty. The dosa is probably gluten-friendly but you might want to ask if other ingredients inside it are gluten-friendly too.
We'd spent 4 days in Niagara, staying centrally, searching for good value, tasty food without success (& getting ripped off for mediocre mulch). . until we found Moksha!
Jasmine was really friendly and professional, with good knowledge of gluten free options. . And the food was excellent. Best meal we had in Niagara by a long chalk, and up to the standards of the CN tower restaurant.
Would highly recommend. Also great value, 3 of us with drinks (including beer): mains, poppadoms, rice and nans and (discretionary) 20%tip, $80. Wish we'd found you sooner! Many thanks 🙏
N.B. It's difficult to understand some of the negative reviews based on our experience and perhaps makes one question their integrity / motive.
im pretty new to the city, and i was craving authentic dosa. a friend had recommended i try east india company and i was so happy to find a spot that not only offers delicious dosa but brunch!! the buffet was amazing (the lamb curry alone stole my heart) there is clear indication on the buffet for which dishes contain gluten or dairy (great for my dairy intolerant/celiac mom who rarely finds places that she can trust to eat at without risk) the restaurant is beautifully decorated, nice and bright and the service was outstanding - our server rheo was very attentive and friendly and everyone greeted us with a smile. we loved the ambiance and will definitely go back!
Amu served us at Indian Affair, and they have incredible gluten-free options! The butter chicken dish was fantastic, The service was exceptional, making the experience even better.
Tabule has always been my favourite restaurant, my top choice for lunch in the neighborhood.
The menu offers a variety of healthy options including gluten free items. The staff here are all pleasant and helpful especially Mina. I look forward to see her there every time.
Very knowledgeable about gluten free / celiac needs. Separate gluten free menu and fryer! Staff is VERY friendly and the restaurant feels quite homey and welcoming. For sure a repeat go to restaurant!

I would give 50 Stars if I could for the most amazing experience we had with Udipi Place.
Mr Hubert D’Mello, the owner is an incredible human being and I was floored by his service, attitude and food. His restaurant has been in Toronto over 20 years and the food and service has always been impeccable. Living downtown I often frequented.
For my daughters wedding reception on the 17th of September 2022 we catered, a Live Dosa Station and other dishes from this humble yet iconic authentic South Indian restaurant.
From planing the menu, to the food tasting and pleasing all our food preferences & demands, Mr Hubert showed immense patience and understanding, even prepared a few dishes which were not on his menu to accommodate our Vegan dietary requirements.
Our venue required fire insurance and a small 10 pound propane tank, which Mr Hubert easily accommodated, without charging us any extra. ( he went and bought a new propane tank just for my event, amazing service👏🏻)
The day of the event went flawlessly with the arrival of Mr Hubert’s team who set up the the live Dosa grill and food.
We had 8 varieties of Dosas 😍 all vegan and gluten and nut free.
Samosas and Dal Vada ( specifically made at my daughters request) as starters. The tangy and spicy Rasam soup along with Bisibele Bhath.
For dessert their Chef specially made Moong Dal payasam which was sinfully delicious and yes Vegan 🙌🏻
We had a melange of guests from all corners of the world, each of whom found the food incredibly delicious. More so, nothing was left over from the buffet.
The food was perfect for all age groups as the dosas were made in the spot individually on requests of each guests. People landed up having more than a couple of dosas each, which shows how good the food was.
I had catered for 55 people but we had 60 turn up and yet the generous portions brought by Hubert and his incredible team sufficed.
I’m so grateful to have catered from Udipi Place as it left my guests satiated and happy.
Honestly when one hosts a big event, seldom people don’t give too much importance to the food( my observation attending many events ) for me I believe food is the way to peoples heart and when it’s served with so much love and care it’s outshines everything.
We all were blown away by the service beyond expectations by Hubert and Udipi Place.
Thank you so much for making our Big Day so memorable.
Had an awesome night at Chilli Chutney Street Kitchen in Winnipeg! The mix of authentic Indian street food and Hakka‑style dishes was bold and delicious—especially the veg samosas and tandoori soya chaap, which had perfect spice and flavor
. The cozy, vibrant space felt welcoming, and service was friendly and attentive . Amazing value with generous portions—even some tasty vegan and gluten-free options. Definitely my new go-to for Indian comfort food in town! 😊
Such tasty food and fantastic service as well. You can ask for a separate menu to see the vegan, gluten-free, and dairy free options, of which there are many, including vegan and gluten-free naan. Do not miss the Cauliflower 65. The cocktails are great and the restaurant mood was great too.
Tucked in Burnaby is this East African Indian fusion place. Great pakoras, lamb biryani and beef ribs. Plenty of gluten free choices. Great service too. Not disappointed at all. No photos to show as we dug into the dishes as soon as they were served.
We had a fantastic dinner tonight. First time for us but recommended many times by friends. Food was great at a reasonably priced. I am celiac and there were many gf options and I felt quite “safe”. Our server, Raj, was pleasant, professional, and ever so friendly.
* update for Celiacs…. I did suffer a celiac reaction post this initial review. Looking further on the web it seems they do not have a dedicated fryer (would love confirmation). My guess is that the pakora I had was cross-contaminated with Samosas, etc.
Had a lovely vegan and gluten free dinner with friends. Love the new dining room on Edinburgh road. They were even able to make the paneer dishes with tofu to make everything vegan!!! Highly recommend.
Tucked in on Wharf (with another spot on Yates), Dosa Paragon nails South Indian comfort food with crispy, perfectly fermented dosas, tangy coconut and tomato chutneys, and hearty sambhar . The signature dishes—like the Butter Chicken Masala Dosa and Mysore Masala Dosa—burst with authentic, bold flavours you won’t easily find elsewhere on Vancouver Island .
Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options make it inclusive and appealing to many dietary preferences. Many guests rave about crisp dosas and excellent chutneys: “Bomb.com for dosa lovers!” . One Redditor even called it “the only proper South Indian restaurant on the island” , and another praised the Butter Chicken Dosa as “fantastic!” .
Service and atmosphere can vary—some mention occasional slowdowns at peak times or small portion sizes for chutney —but most reviews highlight friendly staff and a cozy setup.
Highlights
• Exceptional, large, crispy dosas with vibrant fillings
• Delicious chutneys & hearty sambar
• Inclusive menu: vegan/gluten‑free friendly
• Filter coffee and mango lassi round out the meal nicely
Tips
• Go during off-peak hours to avoid waits
• Parking can be tricky near Yates—Wharf location offers easier access
Bottom line: Authentic South Indian cuisine with bold flavours, a welcoming vibe, and a menu that satisfies vegans and gluten‑free diners alike. A must-visit for dosa lovers in Victoria!
Celebrating a senior's birthday, 4 of us agreed to Indian Oven for our first contact with them. The reservation process was easy and I could leave notice that one of us had Celiac Disease. I also emailed to see if they had gluten free options. They responded to say they had many dishes that were gluten free, or could be made gluten free easily. We decided to go and are very glad we did! The chef owner himself came out to talk directly to me about my food options, assisting the four of us to order a variety of foods almost all of which were gluten free! They ordered naan (very fluffy) while I ordered the gluten free roti right off the menu. The chef was knowledgeable about food restrictions, and all the staff were very good about keeping the gluten food away from the gluten free! We ordered 4 gluten free share plates (Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi plus the Indian Oven Grill, a mixed share plate with Fish Tikka and Prawns, tandoori chicken and chicken tikka, seekh kebab that was wonderful for the other three; I was served the chicken tikka separate from this plate. Veg Jalfrezi rounded out our meal, coupled with a very good plain rice. We also had a litre of wine to share at reasonable cost. All in, we agreed that we must return and enjoy other dishes - for the menu is extensive. No better review than that!

Amazing experience! Food, environment, staff, everything was phenomenal. The red sauce is one of the best I have ever had. Plus they have large gluten free crust. The paneer was also soooo flavourful. Created to perfection, with a good balance of seasoning
It's family operated and you could tell. They truly care about your experience and the quality of the food
Phenomenal experience!
Will definitely be back and highly recommend
Went there to celebrate with a group of 5 people. The wait staff were very friendly, I was greeted by each server I passed as I came in. The servers were always nearby to assist when needed and the owner was walking throughout the restaurant helping to attend to each table. The service was a 10/10 and noticeably better than most restaurants.
The food was incredible and so flavourful. We ordered most of not all the appetizers to share and they were amazing. We had a vegetarian in our group and there were plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. They also had a variety of gluten free and dairy free options too. I will definitely be returning to try their entrees. The lamb popsicles are what I have my eye on for next time. They also had an extensive drink list which included a good variety of non alcoholic options too. Are the prices high? a bit but food costs have increased and most restaurants have had to adjust their prices for this reason. For the experience and the value of the dishes, it’s reasonable. The ambience of the restaurant was nice and dimly lit. We all enjoyed our time there and I will definitely be going back again soon!
My partner and I tried masala trail for the first time and both of us are gluten free in our reservation they let us know ahead of time they had many options, and they did! We were very happy with the selection and the food was fantastic. Our server Moe was very helpful! We will be returning
The food is absolutely delicious and the service was great as well. Dosa is a little hidden gem. They have a large menu of savoury and sweet crepes that cater to vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diet options to choose from! I had the vegetable Dosa. I'm obcessed. The prices were reseasonable too! N the
service was excellent.
Mount Everest Kitchen & Grill in Vancouver is a hidden gem serving up bold Nepalese, Indian, and Indo-Chinese flavors. Their momos are a must-try, and the lamb curry packs just the right heat! With vegan and gluten-free options, plus friendly service, this spot is perfect for a flavorful feast.
We ordered for takeout. We chose this restaurant because of their reputation for consideration for Gluten Free people. They took good care of us, and the food was delicious. I would recommend for GF peeps, just make sure you mention it.
Great food as always. I have a gluten allergy and it is so fantastic that the food is labelled on the buffet. Kiran did a great job of looking after us. I am regular visitor to the restaurant as well as ordering food for delivery.
What a gem! As someone who eats gluten-free and dairy (due to illness( it’s rare to find a place that delivers on both! and this restaurant exceeded all expectations. The curry was absolutely amazing: rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. You can tell everything is made with care and fresh ingredients. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere made the experience even better. Can’t wait to go back!
Serving staff were friendly and able to cater to both our dietary preferences. Notably were able to cater to my partner’s gluten free diet without any issues!
Great atmosphere and welcoming environment.
Recommend the thali and dosai dishes!
Absolutely amazing!
Owned by a lovely local family - spices are roasted and ground daily. Food is fairly priced and delicious.
Some of our favourites are the dal makhni (smokey creamy lentil and bean dish), the veg pakora, lamb rogan josh, and chicken saag. The coconut rice is so yummy!
Most of the menu is gluten free, including a tasty gluten free chickpea flatbread (doesn't quite rival naan, but close!)
The mango lassis are very tasty! We've loved celebrating with Kashmere for our wedding rehearsal dinner and many other special occasions.
Very tasty but very pricey compared to other similar places.
Food had a good spice.
Would go back again for something different then our norm.
I really enjoyed the coconut curry Basa.
Lots of gluten free options. Chef was working hard in the back for the made to order meals.
